Crazy cravings: Shiseido Dick Page summer collection kit at Sephora

Maybe it's the magic words "limited edition" or that it has the word "summer" in the name, but we're totally having to fight the urge to spend $126 on this Shiseido make up kit.

Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page put this palette together, and the description on Sephora.com is filled with glowy-this and shimmery-that. Plus the kit comes with blotting papers. And directions! So much neat new stuff to play with.

Be okay, we must admit that the yellow and green eyeshadows would probably look kind of scary on most people, including us.

Plus, we're pretty sure we can pick up bronzer, mascara, lipstick and a couple of kooky colored eyeshadows down at Walgreens for under $30. It wouldn't come in a neat-o case, but it might get us out of these early summer make up doldrums, and save $100.

Cool secret: Scunci plastic headbands

Our cross to bear is a tiny, pointy head. No amount of crying or squeezing or adjusting will make most of those cool $50 headbands, in tortoiseshell and grosgrain and satin sit right on our small noggin.

You'd think those neat-o, sporty, elastic headbands, the kind that are all narrow and stretchy would be the solution, but those slide off in a matter of seconds. Little barrettes and bobby pins have been our only bangs control options for years.

So, we were beyond thrilled to find, in the hair accessory aisle of our local Walgreen's, something that fit: Scunci plastic headbands.

Soothe your sunburn with Burt's Bees aloe and buttermilk lotion

San Francisco summers are freezing cold. We usually spend June and July so bundled up that the sun doesn't have a chance to burn any body parts. We must admit: sunscreen is often an afterthought.

Last week we sat through a two hour graduation ceremony in Boston during a heatwave and received a fierce reminder of it's importance: glowing, red, sunburned arms.

This was a bad burn, and Lubriderm wasn't going to cut it, so we headed to Walgreens for aloe vera gel. Luckily we found something even better: Burt's Bees Soothingly Sensitive Aloe & Buttermilk Lotion.

The siren call of Hannah Montana lip gloss

It happened again.

We stopped at Walgreens to grab a bottle of water on the way to gym, and promised ourselves: No browsing hair, make up or nail polish. And we were thisclose to success, but the register-side Hannah Montana lip gloss display snared us.

Two fruity flavors! Tangerine and strawberry! Cute roll-on applicators! Less than five dollars! Sold!

Not having a tween in the house, we're a bit late to the whole HM game. A little research turned up a surprising selection of branded lip glosses, with some spectacular applicator accessories.

Check out our "faves" in the gallery, but beware: no one can resist the lure of Hannah Montana!

Where in the world is MAX factor?

The new MAX Factor is all over magazines these days, with those Carmen Electra yellow eyelash ads. They're getting great buzz and the color palette is sizzling. We were dying to try that Vivid Impact mascara and report back to you.

Except we couldn't find it anywhere.

Walgreens? Nope. Rite Aid? Uh-uh. Target? Sorry. Sephora? Don't make us laugh.

Fragrance freedom: The Sephora atomizer

If you love perfume, you've probably bemoaned the hassle of dragging a big bottle to the gym or heaven forbid on a plane.

Sure, sometimes you can score a sample-size gift with purchase, but that's, what, two healthy splashes? And you can get minis of some popular fragrances at Walgreens or online at Superior Perfumes. Handy, but not necessarily much more mobile than the big versions.

Of course, the crafty out there make their own solid perfume. Shudder.

Ladies! You can take charge of your on-the-go personal aroma on patchouli free terms. I present the Sephora 3 inch Fragrance Atomizer.

The sleek silver case conceals a plastic bottle that you can easily fill using the included funnel. Pop the top on it, and you're ready to rock and roll, leaving your beautiful perfume decanter safely on your bureau, where it belongs.

The best part? It's yours for mere $9!

Pretty. Functional. Cheap. What are you waiting for? Go! Buy an extra one as a gift!

Sally Hansen nailpolish pen: Safety first

I like to be prepared, so I carry a lot of random stuff in my bag. But nail polish? That's an unfixable accident waiting to happen. If you think it's hard to scrape rogue Junior Mints off credit cards, imagine the mess lurking in a bottle of Chanel Midnight Red.

What's a mobile, well-manicured-wanabee to do?

Sally Hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color
to the rescue! This cool pen comes in eight colors, including a surprisingly au courant dark blue. It has a screw tight cap that even most paranoid gal -- or dude -- can feel safe stashing next to a cell phone.

It's easy to use. And quick drying like the name says. On the down side, the brush is brutishly thick and ungainly. But hey, this is for touch ups and last minute pedis in the car, not to paint daisies on your thumbnail, right?

Pick it up at Walgreens for the bargain price of $7.99.

Drugstore Beauty Queen: Sea Breeze Naturals Purifying Clay Cleanser

sea breeze natural purifying clay cleanserI remember using Sea Breeze oh, about 20 years ago. It was back when I actually did not need to do anything to my face, but I did anyway because all my girlfriends were using things like Noxzema cream, Stridex pads, and of course, Sea Breeze. I loved the Sea Breeze astringent, despite warnings about the "alcohol sting."

But while drugstore products like Neutrogena became more and more popular over the years (even with more mature girls like me now), Sea Breeze seemed to disappear off the radar.

Until a few weeks ago.

Sea Breeze must have always been around; I just never noticed it. Perhaps it was the new look of the line, perhaps it was the placement on the shelves at the drugstore. Whatever the reason, I bought the tube of Sea Breeze facial cleanser and tried it.

I love it. I had been previously using a Dove foaming cleanser which was okay, but I never felt squeaky clean after rinsing. The Sea Breeze rinses completely off, along with every last scrap of dirt and makeup on my face. I found the cleanser available online at Walgreens.com for $5.99, but I bought it at Long's on sale for a few dollars cheaper.

Sorry, girls, I might not have any more drugstore facial cleanser reviews since I might have found "the one."
