Uggs get Ugglier

pink feather uggsJust when you thought Ugg boots couldn't get any worse, these Ugg-style boots by Love from Australia show up on shelves. Not only has Love "painted" these already ugly boots pink, but they have added matching feathers. This is boot insanity at it's finest.

I feel that it is my civic duty as a fashionista to warn everyone against these hideous boots. Don't wear them because you will be viciously mocked by anyone that passes you on the streets. Actually, scratch that. You won't be mocked; your child will be mocked. These $125 boots are for babies, poor innocent babies. Don't mess up your child's reputation by placing these boots on their feet they may never forgive you.

Shop for these Ugg-ly boots at Kitson.com.

Love or Hate 'em: The Ugliest Shoes on the Block

Love them or hate them, these are the ugliest shoes on the block. If you own any of these (I have to say I do own one pair on the list) it's not you that is ugly. It's your footwear. So without further ado, I present you with "The Not So Good, the Bad, and the Uggs."

1) Uggs: Sure they are warm, sure they are comfortable, but guess what else they are? Ugly. These sheepskin boots will keep your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer but not without a smattering of insults.

2) Crocs:
Perhaps the most hideous shoe on the list, have been spotted all over town from your creepy next door neighbor to the President of the United States.

3) Doc Marten: Blame the 90's on these sh%t kickers. Kurt Cobain and the grunge era made these a closet staple and today "punk" rockers like Avril Lavigne has kept them going strong.

4) Birkenstocks: Nothing says "I don't care about my image" and "I care entirely too much about my image" at the same time like a pair of Birks. A dirty hippie's footwear of choice.

5) Teva Sandals: See the blurb about Birkenstocks and replace "dirty hippies" with "granola nature freak"

6) Jellies: Any product of the 1980s can relate to the permanent toe damage that these shoes have caused. What little girls once wore to look grown up, are worn by foolish adults to look sweet and cute.

7) Steve Madden Slinky: Most likely the only original design Steve Madden ever came up with, these shoes can be seen on women of all ages. Why? I do not know. Not only do they look hideous, they look pretty uncomfortable too.

8) High HeelSneakers: The most nonsensical shoe in the bunch. We wear sneakers to run around and play. We wear high heels to look sexy while being in a horrible amount of pain. When you combine the two the results are disastrous.

9) Platform Flip-Flops:
Why oh why do so many women wear these shoes? They are ugly and probably not the safest shoes around. I mean balancing on a 3 inch platform of $10 foam can never be a good idea.

10) Gladiator Sandals: They may be "in" right now but just know those second glances aren't looks of approval, they are just wondering if you are in costume for the movie. Which came out years ago.

Styles that Stick: Ugg boots

Ugg boots4 years ago I scoured eBay and then waited in line at Nordstrom waiting for the new shipment of Uggs to come in. Back then I had no idea that these ugly boots (that the fashion industry made me want) would stick around.

Uggs are a sheepskin boot with a wool inner lining. The boots traditionally come in tan; but also come in black, purple, pink, and many other silly colors. Uggs didn't come out in 2003, they just had a sudden spike in popularity. They have actually always been a hit in Australia and New Zealand, since they came out 200 years ago. They reached extreme popularity after World War I and II when they were needed to keep warm on non-pressured planes. Ugg boots regained popularity in the 1960's with the surf and swimming crowds.

Pretty impressive huh?

No matter how Ugg-ly these boots may be, they sure are warm. Then why are the so popular in Los Angeles and other warmer climates you might ask. Perhaps because the inside fibers allows air to circulate giving them a cooling affect as well. You don't even needs socks with Uggs because they are designed to be worn without them. Gee, these boots sounds pretty magical. Oh and don't go for the knock-off, they are made of cow and not sheep so they don't have the same breathable qualities.

Celebrities love Ugg boots too. Pamela Anderson kicked them off for us in the U.S by wearing them between takes on the set of Baaywatch. That is until her blond moment came and she realized Uggs were made out of animals. Kate Hudon, Sienna Miller, Kate Winslet, and many others.

I would wear these Uggs

uggs dunwich bootI know.

I have bashed Uggs harder than the Fugly girls pick on Paris. I've wished them a painful death. I have gasped at the sight of their crotchety crocheted cousin. Uggs. Ugh.

I know.

However, if someone told me that I absolutely had to wear a pair of Uggs or else lose access to the Internet, I would crumble, but only if they were the Dunwich Boot. Uggs' sleek and slightly more sophisticated older sibling is a 16" tall, suede boot with a leather vamp, leather strap and buckle detail at the ankle, rubber (comfort!) sole, and 1" heel. It still has the soft comfort feel that has made Uggs popular, the shearling lining.

The Dunwich Boot is $250 at ShopBop.
