Vice Magazine's 2008 Fashion Issue

Vice Magazine's 2008 Fashion Issue is online now
Bloody brilliant. We're loving Vice Magazine's 2008 Fashion Issue, now available to view online in full. We especially love the column entitled "I Hate Fashion" written by Tracie Egan of Jezebel.com. Our sentiments exactly. But wait... we also totally identify with Christopher Bollen's article "I Love Fashion." Oh fashion, how we love to hate you! The trend reports for NYC and London are spot on as well, and hilarious to boot. And who but Vice would dare to cast porn star Sasha Grey in a provocative but very clever fashion spread? (Get it? Spread?) Seriously, Vice's snarky take on all things fashion is not to be missed.

Latex leggings: Love 'em or hate 'em?

As our friends at StyleList have so generously reminded us, latex leggings are still making the rounds on the legs and bottoms of your favorite celebrities. We warned you in the fall, and then again this winter, and now the time has come -- the trend is at its peak.

Clearly, this shift from skinny jeans to pants that, somehow, are even tighter, isn't going anywhere any time soon. The question is: do you care? Sure it looks OK on ultra-thin actresses, models and pop stars who spend hours at the gym, working every minor bulge into submission with the help of high-dollar personal trainers. But will it look good on normal women?

Discuss.

Real women struggle with this summer's trends

Some trends are easily followed by real women -- think bold prints, ballet flats, and wide leg jeans. There are certain rules that even a fashion dummy could follow. And then there are other trends that aren't for the faint of heart. Skinny jeans are hard to wear unless you're, well, pretty skinny. Fashion as architecture is a toughy. And the new heel-less heels are pretty darn scary even for the most hardcore fashionista.

Hammer pants making a comeback

Are you Too Legit to Quit? Do you think Anything Goes on the Dance Floor? If so, then you should Pray that you're Big Man enough to kick it old skool with some Hammer Pants -- because baby, they're back.

So Let's Turn This Mutha Out!

Seriously though -- people are actually wearing those ultra-baggy, parachute sweatpants you thought were super-cool in junior high. Except ever since they started showing up on runways last year, they've been known as "harem pants."

Lauren Conrad shares style tips in new online series

Are you addicted to The Hills? Are you obsessed with Lauren Conrad's style? If so, you'll be happy to find out that the lovely LC has a new online video series.

Called, "LC's Eye On," the video series will be premiering every Tuesday for 5 weeks straight. Lauren will discuss hot trends in fashion, things she's obsessed with at the moment, and more. In the first episode, LC leaves us with such gems of wisdom as this, "Every spring, people start wearing more, like, springy dresses." She also thinks high waisted pants are going out of style because we've realized that "nobody looks good in them." I'll drink to that.

Use it or lose it? What you should pack away this spring

Gallery: Spring looks you shouldn't pack away

So far, StyleDash has given you loads of advice on what's hot for spring, so you probably know what you should be shopping for, buying, and wearing. However, even if you incorporate those new styles, you're not going to achieve the look unless you pack away some of your winter items first.

Bag Snob gives a rundown of what bags to "Flash or Stash" this season, and these same ideas can be used on other parts of your outfit. For example, fur and suede are heavy, warm materials that are best saved for cooler months. Same thing goes for items with lots of beading and embellishments -- hold them for the holidays. And, unless you're visiting your Aunt Dorothy in her retirement home in Boca Raton, you should probably keep the wild animal prints to a minimum (however, I kinda love a little touch of leopard just about any time of year, but that's just me).

What's getting pushed to the back of your closet this season? And what are you most excited to bring out from hibernation?

Stylish sunglasses for spring: Men

Some guys don't really accessorize -- baseball caps don't count. They don't have the necklace, earring, scarf, and handbag options that women have. Probably most of them are pretty happy about that. However, when it comes to sunglasses, guys are right in the with the gals -- there are plenty of choices to keep you looking fashion forward.

The best thing is, you can wear them, like, every day! Without washing them! And nobody will make fun of you! I know that's not how all guys feel about fashion, but for those of you who want your style to be easy and painless, sunglasses are a great way to amp up your style without putting in too much effort.

Two of the big trends for guys this season are the continuation of the aviator and the shield as well as some funkier plastic frames, like the Rayban Wayfarer we saw popping up last summer (and in Risky Business). And, as with the ladies' sunglasses, tortoise shell is poised to step up as a big trend for the guys.

Handbag Designer Deals

Know of a favorite independent handbag designer that you'd love to see recognized and rewarded for their work? Let them know about the open call for entries for the Second Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards, sponsored by Handbag Designer 101. The categories for this competition are Best Student Made Handbag, Best Handmade Handbag, Most Socially Responsible Handbag, Best Green Handbag, Audience-Selected Handbag, and Best Handbag in Overall Style & Design. There are some great prizes up for grabs for the winning designers, including a free booth at the MAGIC accessories tradeshow in Las Vegas this August, an apprenticeship with the Henri Bendel accessory design team and more.

Okay, okay, so chances are that you're probably not a handbag designer, but maybe you're just a lover of purses? Handbag Designer 101 is still a great resource you can use to read interviews with up and coming bag designers, stay up to date on the latest trends in handbags, chat about your handbag must-haves, get your celebrity bag watch fix and find out about handbag related events and deals.

Speaking of deals on handbags, I just got word from my friends at Accessory Bug about their special discount offer for spring. Get 10% off on any order through April 30, 2008 by using coupon code spring08 at checkout. They've got the infamous "I'm not a plastic bag" handbag in four different color choices, plus a huge selection of clutches, hobos, totes, wristlets and other accessories.

American Apparel does nylon

You probably thought that you left nylon windbreakers behind forever the day you quit your high school tennis team -- but you were wrong. At least that's what American Apparel thinks, and so does Men.Style.Com. Apparently, high tech synthetic fabrics are making a big showing in a lot of spring collections.

Trend-setters across the pond are bringing back the sporty look of lightweight fabrics, and the shiny, colorful world of nylon along with it. I have to admit, I'm a little skeptical here. We all had some sweet windbreakers in the mid 90s that we were crazy about -- but when you look back at those pictures, are you not a little embarrassed? Is 90's nostalgia already upon us?

Pulling off the synthetic look is extremely simple. You're probably OK as long as you stick to one color, maybe two -- as long as one's a trim. American Apparel has the right idea here, bright yellow wouldn't be my first choice, but it still looks classic. I'd steer clear of any graphics or prints, especially flag patterns.

The ballet flat will never die

Just like Lauren predicted way back in 2007, the ballet flat has stood the test of time and will continue to provide women's feet everywhere with an elegant respite from the stiletto during 2008.

For tall girls who worry about towering over their men, ballet flats are still the way to go. You can wear them without worrying about asking your date to put Tom Cruise lifts in his shoes. For those of us who live in a big city, we can feel free to walk from the subway instead of having to try and hail a cab, since ballet flats are comfortable enough for the long city treks. In short, it's pretty hard to go wrong with this great casual shoe!

Ballet flats are a fantastic way to add trends to your wardrobe as well, without looking too over the top. Get them in the it colors for the season, lemon yellow, or metallic gold. You can also find ballet flats that incorporate floral patterns (very hot right now) into their designs.

Browse to see if you like any of the cute ballet flats from this season. There's a design for every personality!

Versace goes over big with Fergie and Megan Fox

The Versace show was a big hit with the celebrities. Fergie, Megan Fox, and of course Patrick Dempsey were all there. Although, Patrick Dempsey had no choice. After all, he is the face of the brand right now.

Last week there were tons of amazing clothes on display in Milan. Versace really turned it on for this collection. The colors were bold and bright. We saw lots of fuchsia, dark purples, midnight blues and lemon yellows. Cocktail dresses had simple silhouettes coming down to mid-calf, many of them working the one shoulder look. For the most part, garments were pattern free, but the few dresses that had patterns, did them in a big way!

For me though, the short coats were the best part of this collection. Forget the little belts that cinched trenches in at the waist from last season. Clearly, Versace wants to accommodate the scores of pregnant Hollywood royalty. These coats were adorable, and better yet, forgiving of any figure.

Give yourself a makeover with Spring 2008 makeup trends

Stop! Put down that brush and back away from the bronzer -- yes, Lindsay Lohan, I'm talking to you!

Pale girls rejoice, light skin is back in! This month, walking down the runway, we saw lots of natural skin with pale pink lips, light peachy blush and orange-yellow eye shadow. If you want to learn how to incorporate these trends into your day to day routine, you've come to the right place.

I gave my victim friend a makeover using Spring 2008 makeup style. Keep reading to see how it turned out!

wardrobe_remix Top Pic(k)s: Trendy Yellow

wardrobe_remix is a Flickr community dedicated to exploring all the amazing everyday looks that people put together to express themselves. Real people, just like you and me. Inspired by the original (official!) weekly wardrobe_remix recap that the group's founder Tricia Royal does on her own blog, bits and bobbins, here are a few of my personal favorite recent additions to the group.

Yesterday Kyle pointed out how yellow is popping up all over the place these days. I couldn't help but think the same thing as I browsed through some of the most recent additions to the wardrobe_remix community. Yellow was appearing absolutely everywhere... in tights and accessories, in shoes and boots, and as big pops of color in dresses and jackets. I love how these bright, sunny splashes of color remind me that warm spring days really are just around the corner.

For ideas on how to integrate one of the season's hottest trends into your own wardrobe, check out the unique styles of regular fashion fans just like you and join in the action at wardrobe_remix.

5 fashion trends for 2008 as picked by Fortune

Now that 2007 is quickly coming to an end, it's time to cast your eyes on 2008 -- after all, you don't want to suddenly find yourself stuck with a closet full of last year's looks!

According to Fortune magazine, there are five big trends to keep your eye on next year. I wouldn't normally turn to Fortune for my fashion advice -- it's a financial publication, after all -- but their picks makes sense. Grown-up, sophisticated, and right where mainstream style has been headed ever since we dumped that 80s resurgence once and for all.

Here's what you'll need in the New Year:

Trend alert: Rorschach blots

If there's one great truth about fashion it's that designers will look for inspiration anywhere. A case in point is the recent batch of clothing and accessories decorated with Rorschach blots.

Don't worry, the trend doesn't indicate a neo-Freudian undercurrent in consumer culture; rather, fashion designers have picked up on what is an obvious fact when you take the Rorschach blot out of the context of a psychological evaluation -- they make for totally cool patterns.

I admit, I love Rorschach blots. When I was living in Milan, I bought a t-shirt with a blot that looks like a squirrel, and I can't tell you the number of times people have asked me where it was from (uh, Zara) or how I got my hands on it (uh, debit card).

If you want to try out the Rorschach blot trend, here are a few items to check out:
