FLDSdress.com: your polygamist clothing hookup

As we watched the cops raid the Yearning for Zion polygamist compound back in April, one thought kept running through our minds: how can we get our hands on some of those sweet fundamentalist duds? According to FLDS mothers, pioneer fashion has been out of style for way too long now, and it's time to bring it back. That's why a few of the enterprising women of the FLDS sect have decided to launch a website selling their handmade styles.

Their website, FLDSdress.com, was initially launched to get clothing out to the 440 children in state custody. Now, the site will hopefully be a vehicle for some of the displaced women to earn a living. We weren't even sure that FLDS women were allowed to work. We were also surprised by the amount of porn advertising that they allowed on their website. Kidding.

Hopefully, they'll have their adult line ready in time for NY Fashion Week.

Moral Fabric: What t-shirts are made of

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Moral Fabric
is a t-shirt company that originated in Texas. Their passion is to make t-shirts that "focus on the psychedelic art movement of the 60's and 70's, ancient Middle Eastern mosaic patterns, perception vs. reality, spiritual ideologies, and the intelligent designs of Mother Nature." You know, cool stuff.

Jenna Bush gets married, wears a rockin' dress

Jenna Bush got married this weekend at the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas, and we're sure her new husband, Henry Hager, had no regrets as to his choice when he saw her walking down the aisle. Jenna was dressed in an Oscar de la Renta gown that we just loved -- it had a simple silhouette, but an intricate design with embroidered organza and matte beading from the very top to the end of her chapel-length train.

Not everyone looked so sharp, however -- check out the gallery to see what we loved and what we could've done without.

Sweet Sixteen Style: Texas

In honor of March Madness, Styledash blogger Lauren Perdue is bringing you the scoop on what really matters in this year's tournament -- fashion. We know two of the teams we're featuring today technically lost last night, and are no longer in the tournament, but this isn't a sports blog, so we prefer not to bother ourselves with these sorts of trivial details.

hook'em horns!Oh, Texas.

Texas, Texas, Texas.

When the Powers That Be were coming up with UT's school colors, they tossed around blue and orange, yellow and orange, etc. but finally settled on burnt orange, causing a headache for the style conscious ever since. Myself included.

However, there are cute items to be had in this signature color, such as the Nike Womens' Track Jacket ($59.99), this zip up jacket with really cute embroidery ($39.99), and these super cute Bevo earrings ($6.99). But there are also many logo items in different colors so you can support the 'Horns without looking jaundiced.

If you want to go the fashionable route (and you know you do) then there are actually quite a few sweet pieces in shades from pumpkin to deep red orange to mimic the heavily-trademarked color. Consider this strapless Lotta Stenson top for $69 and the DARLING Rachel Pally Tie Detail tank for $79.99, both from Bluefly.com. If you've got more to love then YOU will love this drop-waisted dress for $29.50 from Old Navy. Hook'em!

Sure, in the photo, what makes the look pop out is the cool light jacket over top the darker layers, and those superbly worn-in checkered shoes. But in real life (and what I didn't quite capture with my puny little flash), is that this dude has the most enormous fro you've seen since 1979. Awesome.

When I stopped him, this guy was only in jeans, and a black t-shirt -- it was his hat that caught my attention. But before I could take his picture, he stopped me, asked to run back inside the coffee shop, and re-emerged in the awesome cardigan and daring neckware you see above. Two simple changes took a look that was straightforward cool, and made it completely kick ass.

How to wear this season's full skirts

Circular, voluminous skirts always seemed to look better on the hangers than they did on me - that is, until I learned the rules for wearing a skirt with volume. Unless you're looking to accentuate your hips, you're going to want to take note of these three simple guidelines.

Rule #1: Highlight only one part of your body at a time. Because you are centering your outfit around a skirt with some volume, you're going to want to keep your top simple and streamlined. Try this top (pictured at left) from Eddie Bauer.com. A thin cotton and angora blend, this v-neck, solid colored sweater won't compete for attention with your skirt and will help create the sleek silhouette you're going for.

Rule #2: Don't go bare-legs when you're wearing winter clothing! I'm from Texas, so believe me when I say that I understand wearing flip-flops all the way through February. However, if you're going to dress up in cold-weather clothing, make sure your ENTIRE outfit agrees, including hosiery/stockings. As a natural evolution from the summer-leggings trend, opaque stockings have taken over as the footwear of choice for this fall and winter. Darker colored stockings also help disguise winter-white legs and are generally a more slimming option than nude or sheer hosiery.

Rule #3: Footwear is important. Boots feel like the natural choice for dressing up a winter circular skirt, but this isn't always the case. Depending on the length and shape of your skirt, adding boots to the outfit may make you look too bottom-heavy. A safe bet for skirt-friendly footwear is to pair a round-toed pump with your skirt, sweater, and stockings combo. This way you'll not have to worry about the dreaded pear shape and you'll also visually lengthen your legs by not breaking up your natural lines with a bulky boot.

The sweetly feminine smock dress

Texas is known for many things, none of which include cutting-edge fashion. Yes, we who hail from the Lone Star state have to work a little harder than some to find out what is really trendy at the moment.

Being obsessed as I am with all things British, I am loving the smock-style tunic that has been shown at many of London's style shows this season. The neatly pleated, feminine smock can be worn as a dress or over jeans or leggings, and is nearly universally figure flattering if worn correctly. An article in the Telegraph gives a great list of Do's and Don'ts for tunic-wearing style.

Some of the tips include advice to wear chunky heels or knee-high boots when pairing smocks or tunics with jeans, and (my personal favorite) an admonishment against shunning the tunic in fear of looking pregnant - instead, hope that someone gives up their seat on the train for you!
