Does digging for days through your bag sound familiar? Then here's a slam dunk solution: a pretty, little satchel to stash those pesky things. Our pick of the moment is Showpony's Vintage purse, which sleekly stores everything from keys to coins to the mandatory four tubes of lipgloss. (Please don't judge.) What makes it haute is Showpony's trademark trompe l'oeil or trick of the eye patterns, which incorporate hidden objects into a floral design. The purse is made from 100% organic, fair trade cotton and printed on with earth-friendly water-based inks.

Indie Designer Interviews: Makool Loves You

We love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's interview is with Anisa Makhoul, a Michigan native who received a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art before moving to Portland, Oregon where she started producing her designs locally and founded Makool Clothing. For the past eight years Makool Clothing has been growing a cult following right at the cutting edge of the fashion scene. Makool has a loyal following online, as well as selling to items wholesale to boutiques.

Alchemy Goods has a simple mission: "Turning useless into useful." Hence the name. Alchemy is the process of transforming matter. It hit its peak of popularity in medieval times, the age, not the restaurant, when turning lead into gold was all the rage.

Alchemy Goods isn't as obsessed with gold as their forerunners, rather they strive to turn "something of lesser value into something of greater value." Sure, they're a business and like to rake in a bit of the green, but they're much more interested in producing it- green that is. The emphasis is on the ecological not the economical.

By this point we've all heard how important it is to buy eco-friendly products, and that includes fashion. But is it all just hype? Just another marketing gimmick employed by corporate America to try and get us to spend more dollars but feel less guilty about doing it? Many companies have been accused of greenwashing, and it's certainly true that buy buy buy is not the way to help our environment.

No matter what though, people will always want to dress in a way that makes them feel good about the way they look. We shouldn't have to compromise style in our quest to save the planet. Sure, we need to adjust our habits, but that doesn't mean that we'll all end up looking like a bunch of dirty hippies. Here's our list of the top 5 ways to really green up your wardrobe.

1. The reusable bag. It doesn't have to be Anya Hindmarch's bag you see at right (which we've all seen about enough of, frankly), but re-usable bags are eco-friendly and can say a lot about you. You read? Get one at a bookstore. In fact, you probably already have one. They're called tote bags. Use them when you go to the farmer's market (or the drug store) and feel good about yourself.
