Brian Batt at Mad Men wrap party - Style Foul!

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

There's a reason you never hear the phrase "Lovely Man Flower." Bryan Batt, was kind enough to wear Exhibit A to the Mad Men season two wrap party, demonstrating that there's no such thing as a formal aloha floral pant.

Bryan's character Salvatore Romano is an art director with a secret. Here he's making no secret of his bad judgment. As much as we love a black and white pattern, it works better on a tie. Or curtains, which kind of makes sense when you learn that Bryan is also a interior designer. Maybe he just saw them in the window and had to have them.

Look, at this point we're just grateful he didn't buy the matching jacket. Thank you for small favors, Bryan!

Ashton Kutcher at The House Bunny premiere - StyleFoul!

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Oh, Ashton Kutcher, you perplex us. We love that you like a little bit of quirky fashion (although we're still a little upset about the trucker hat). And we smile at the fact that sometimes you play up the fact that Demi is totally robbing the cradle with you, but, when you attend the premiere of your stepdaughter's first big movie, do you really need to look like a teenager crashing the party? Even going so far as to openly ogle your date's (admittedly fabulous) ass?

We would have given you a pass on the striped shirt under the jacket. Yes, it's a little goofy, but you are at the premiere of The House Bunny, after all -- goofiness is practically required. In fact, we even kind of like it. The shoes, however, are a different matter.

Eva Herzigova goes see-through on the red carpet

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

Eva, let's talk. Part of being a ridiculously beautiful supermodel is having a body you can flaunt. No one is judging you for this, but there's a difference between suggestively sexy and "I wanted to show up in my underwear, but I figured that wouldn't be cool -- so I wore this!"

Rod Stewart, fashion designer

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Think of the dreamiest, sexiest, most fashionable pop star on the planet. Let me guess, you're not thinking of Rod Stewart.

Nevertheless, the husky-voiced 80s sex bomb who, for some reason, still manages to string together a career as a musician, is now the latest celebrity to launch his own fashion line. Great.

Overall, the line is nothing to write home about -- in fact, I'd say it's more like a line of merchandise than anything you'd call a designer label. However, if you're the sort of person that enjoys the irony of clothing that's so unbelievably ugly that it could be kinda cute, there's a few items, you'll definitely want to check out. It was a dirty job, but I've sifted through the entirety of Rod's collection (available at his online store), and picked the five most hideous (and therefore most awesome) pieces for you to enjoy. Bobby Trendy somehow manages to get less trendy

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Bobby TrendyWhen I think of the increasingly popular phrase "hot mess", I think of someone like Bobby Trendy. Actually, that's not really true... When I think of "mess", I think of Bobby Trendy. Yup, that's a bit more accurate.

Bobby Trendy rose to D-list fame when he appeared on E!'s Anna Nicole Show as the late Ms. Smith's interior designer. At first it was kind of funny, watching this fellow don painfully pink outfits and enough lip gloss to shellac ten dinette sets. Then the show ended and Trendy faded into obscurity... or so the world wished. These recent pictures show that Trendy is still kickin', looking even more ridiculous than usual.

I honestly don't even know where to begin. Do I start with the pillow arms? The gift wrapping hair? The false lashes of doom? The bizarre addition of the DHL bag? Take your pick.

Rihanna's outfits are a bad idea gone worse

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

RihannaOne would think that after three albums under her belt, including her latest "Good Girl Gone Bad", Rihanna would have gotten a better sense of what looks hot onstage and what does not. No doubt about it, Rihanna has a fantastic body (and crazy legs) but she's showing it off in all the wrong ways. Check out her onstage outfit and marvel at the overwhelming shininess of it all. Even her legs look a little plastic.

Despite Rihanna and her stylists' best efforts, this style looks less "dangerous dominatrix" and more "Hot Topic design reject". Come on, you 19 year-old, have some fun, but stay away from the hooker boots and ill-fitting corsets.

What do you think of Rihanna's get-up?

Taking Hello Kitty love to a whole new level

Kitty JesusSometimes people like to get tattoos of their favorite cartoon characters as a way of taking their fan-dedication to the next level. However, there is a line between "big fan" and "someone who is hyper-obsessed, with bad taste". This post is about a tattoo that falls in the latter category.

Styledash has reported on a lot of extravagant and weird ways that Hello Kitty fans have shown their love, but this "Hello Kitty is my Jesus" tattoo probably one of the most bizarre ones. First of all... Why? Why in the world would anyone want that? Is this the ultimate example of why people shouldn't get drunk near tattoo parlors? Or did a lucid person genuinely believe that this was a good idea? The strangest thing is that I find myself most weirded out by the fact that Hello Kitty has really awkward facial hair.

In three years' time, this person is going to be super-embarrassed by their tattoo choice. And by "three years", I mean "three days".

Comfort is no excuse for mustard-stained sweatpants

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Ugly PantsThe most common excuse I hear for wearing atrocities like tracksuits and terribly ill-fitting pants (please see the picture to the right) is "But it's so comfy!" Um, okay. I didn't know comfort was a reason to show up to the supermarket like a velour nightmare. How many times have you stumbled out of bed, gone to the nearby Starbucks with the intention to be in and out within ten minutes, only to bump into a friend (I won't mention if they're super attractive or not) and be immediately consumed with hot embarrassment because you look like you, well, stumbled out of bed? And if that hasn't happened yet, it will, my friend. It will. Looking somewhat decent doesn't take that much work, actually. No one should have to get glammed up to go for a morning coffee run, but no one should be able to confuse you for a homeless person either. Here are some helpful hints on how to not look like a slob without sacrificing your morning.

The year's worst fashion moments (according to the NY Times)

Like any year, 2007 was full of memorable, and oh-so-forgettable, fashion moments. The casual fashionista probably noticed H&M, Target, and other mainstream retailers stopped carrying the annoyingly bold, 80s-inspired fashions that'd been a staple for far too long, opting instead for a re-invention of the 90s -- grunge, grime, and even retro-gaming were big in the second half of the year.

But what were the foul-ups -- the big industry issues that, regardless of major trends, will live on in infamy? According to Eric Wilson at the NY Times, these were the worst of the worst:
Agreed -- all of that was awful.

What were your most-hated fashion happenings in 2007?

Stylefoul: Beyonce's Balenciaga Lego heels

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

BalenciagaOuch. It looks like Beyonce has been raiding the shoe rack of Optimus Prime's trashy girlfriend. The singer was spotted at the American Music Awards sporting these $4,175 heels from Balenciaga, which Lauren mentioned earlier this year. Yeah, I said $4,175. I would rather eat that much in a green, cash salad than buy these monsters to put on my feet.

I must admit, this shoe has done a number on my imagination. If one ignores the pointy heel bit, the awkward straps kind of make the shoe look like one of those sandals that a lot of dads like to wear with socks. That's never a fun quality to have on a shoe for a night on the town, right? When I look at this, I also think of what hardcore Global GUTS fans would have made their mothers wear. It'd be like GUTS' equivalent of the soccer mom. My brain also starts conjuring up images of people on the corner of NYC's Canal and Broadway, trying to sell knock-off versions of this made of Legos and aluminum foil.

Sad thing is, I'm sure they'd make at least one sale. Yuck.

The bad idea handbag

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Have you ever seen the Saturday Night Live skit "Bad Idea Jeans"? If you haven't, you should check it out on YouTube because it's quite funny.

If the fictitious company behind Bad Idea Jeans decided to get in the handbag business, I'm pretty sure that the A'N'D High Heel Shoulder purse would be among its first designs.

True to its name, the High Heel Shoulder purse has a high heel fused to the bottom of the bag.

(Not that I want to play semantics with this one, but I think the name of this bag should technically be the Kitten Heel Shoulder purse since the term "high heels" generally refers to a shoe with a stack of more than two inches.)

But alas, the problem with this bag isn't the name -- it's the concept. Presumably, the spark plug who came up with this bag -- no doubt a man -- thought that if women liked shoes and handbags, they would probably LOVE a $370 accessory that combines both.

Sheesh, talk about a Bad Idea handbag.

StyleFoul: Britney's awful VMAs outfit

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Britney's VMA disasterAll the celebrities turned out for last night's MTV Video Music Awards, and almost everyone looked great. However, the evening's big story was Britney Spears' much-anticipated "come back" performance that opened the show.

I can barely find the words to describe this unfortunate spectacle. The world may never know why Britney chose to wear that glittery bikini -- even though her publicist, manger, and costumer almost certainly pleaded with her not to. Maybe it was because she's taped the heavily airbrushed photos for her new perfume ads over all of her mirrors, and has no idea what she really looks like -- or, more likely, she was trying to distract everyone from the fact that she's incapable of lip syncing to her own music.

Either way, I think Sarah Silverman said it best in her introductory remarks, that immediately followed Britney's disastrous appearance: "She is amazing. I mean, she is 25 years old and she's already accomplished everything she's going to accomplish in her life."

Zing!

WholesomeWear: lamest swimwear ever

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear & Lingerie

Why succomb to skimpy swimwear that shows off your body, when you can instead opt for full-body water suits that "highlight the face."

Like these fashion-forward garments from your friends at WholesomeWear!

Nothing says "I never plan to have sex" like a conservatively-cut, knee-length dress -- complete with a "spandex undergarment [that] fits like a bodysuit." The best part is -- these might even be easier to swim in than the floor-length black potato sack you wear when you're not "kickin' back poolside."

Just when you thought no one in the world would ever design clothing suited to your modest personal tastes, along comes WholesomeWear to save the day. So come on, gang, let's hit the beach!

StyleFoul: Britney Spears in a see-through dress and thong

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Avert your eyes!It had been a couple days since she'd done anything really weird -- you know, like freaking out and stealing clothes during an OK magazine photo shoot, or strippin' down to her undies for a splash in the ocean -- so I guess Britney figured that it was time to pull out the goods.

And by "the goods," I of course mean her butt cheeks.

The pop-star turned mother-from-hell was spotted out and about Saturday night in this sheer black dress, which she complimented with a nice-and-obvious black thong and bra.

I used to wonder what motivated Britney Spears to do the things she does. But I've recently accepted that this would be impossible.
