Jesse Kamm: Spring 2008 collection

Earlier this year, I was left kind of shocked and dumbfounded when I found out that major fashion designers like Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, and Alber Elbaz hardly ever -- if at all -- used the internet.

Paris Hilton shines in the season's hottest color

I'm not always the biggest fan of Paris Hilton's wardrobe choices, but I have to say that she's really rocking this dress in spring's trendiest hue, yellow. She looks bright, sunny, and ... classy! Here's why this look works so well:

  • The dress is really fun and feminine -- the halter is a flattering neckline and seriously springy. Pair that with the defined waist and full skirt, and you've got a perfect spring dress.

  • The color is, of course, one of the hottest choices this season. Paris' dress has a fun white print on it to make it stand out without making it too loud. Yellow, if paired with colors can be a bit much for some people, but paired with white (or navy) will work for just about anybody.

Use it or lose it? What you should pack away this spring

So far, StyleDash has given you loads of advice on what's hot for spring, so you probably know what you should be shopping for, buying, and wearing. However, even if you incorporate those new styles, you're not going to achieve the look unless you pack away some of your winter items first.

Bag Snob gives a rundown of what bags to "Flash or Stash" this season, and these same ideas can be used on other parts of your outfit. For example, fur and suede are heavy, warm materials that are best saved for cooler months. Same thing goes for items with lots of beading and embellishments -- hold them for the holidays. And, unless you're visiting your Aunt Dorothy in her retirement home in Boca Raton, you should probably keep the wild animal prints to a minimum (however, I kinda love a little touch of leopard just about any time of year, but that's just me).

What's getting pushed to the back of your closet this season? And what are you most excited to bring out from hibernation?

How to Pack for a Spring Fling Getaway

Packing for a Spring Fling Getaway
There is just something about the anticipation of the spring/summer season that makes me want to jump into a convertible and escape reality. Now is the perfect time to plan a spring getaway. Not a vacation, a getaway. To me a getaway is a short trip that is barely planned and your packing should consist of one small bag.

One small bag! Yes, that's right -- one small bag. Here are the essentials for a spring fling getaway.

Sexy lingerie: They don't call it spring fever for nothing! Shave those legs because it's time to get down. When you are off traveling with that super hottie you took on as a travel companion you can't wear your ratty winter panties. Those will never do. Put a little spring in his, uh, "step" with something a bit saucier.

Throw and go dress: A dress than you can throw on or off in less then a minute is a must for a spring fling getaway. I prefer a jersey dress, as they are nearly impossible to wrinkle.

Gold gladiator sandals: Typically I would never encourage packing flats but when it comes to a spring getaway they are absolutely necessary. Gold gladiators are in style, comfortable, and can transition form day to night in a snap.

All-in-one make up set: Packing your whole makeup bag just screams high maintenance, which is a fine message for a vacation but not for a getaway. Pick up one of those handy compacts that has all of your needs in one place, it will make getting ready much easier.

And all that other stuff: You must not forget your staples when packing for this fling like: wide leg light wash jeans, great fitting tank top, floppy sun hat, sunscreen (always), a light jacket, a pair of wedge heels, and versatile handbag that can go from day to night.

Give yourself a makeover with Spring 2008 makeup trends

Stop! Put down that brush and back away from the bronzer -- yes, Lindsay Lohan, I'm talking to you!

Pale girls rejoice, light skin is back in! This month, walking down the runway, we saw lots of natural skin with pale pink lips, light peachy blush and orange-yellow eye shadow. If you want to learn how to incorporate these trends into your day to day routine, you've come to the right place.

I gave my victim friend a makeover using Spring 2008 makeup style. Keep reading to see how it turned out!

Yellow is the "it" color of spring 2008

Although yellow is typically a summer color, it's popping up all over the place this spring! Seeing as how yellow makes people happy, I'm ok with that. And did you know that when people are in a yellow room they even tend to eat and drink more? Nicole Richie, take note.

The color of the canary can be found in dresses, shoes, accessories and even makeup for the Spring 2008 season. Although in general, yellow supposedly looks better on cool skin tones, as long as you keep it in small doses anyone should be able to wear it -- as Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have proved to us. The unexplainable duo wore matching yellow eye liner to a club recently. To try this look, get M.A.C.'s Golden Lemon pigment, or check out Sephora where they have another great shadow by Bare Escentuals, called Yellow Amber.

Clothing companies are rolling out the yellow products too. The GAP has an amazing pair of yellow Converse sneakers for only $40.00, while Steve Madden provides us with the perfect pair of yellow pumps to dress up any outfit for $99.95. Also making it into my favorites is a classic Marc by Marc Jacobs bag in yellow. Browse through the gallery to see pictures of all things yellow, including how men should add the color to their wardrobe (in a tie) and how I wish I could add it to my wardrobe (in an adorable, flower print, Marc Jacobs dress).

And in case you were wondering -- here is how NOT to do yellow. Poor KT Tunstall. Oh how I love her voice, and oh how I hate that dress! Let the bumble bee jokes begin...

Spring 2008 Trend Alert: One shoulder dresses

one shoulder dressFred Flintstone would be proud because the one shoulder look is back in style. It's been a long time since this silhouette has been in vogue; so long I was almost certain it wasn't coming back (at least not in my lifetime).

The good news is you are no longer doomed to sport those lycra one shoulder numbers, a la Kelly Bundy on 'Married with Children', because there are so many better options out there. The one shoulder dress has dropped the sleazy appeal it once had and has upgraded into a chic and more comfortable look. Wear it tight (but not too tight) in a jersey knit or wear it loose and flowing in silk.

The one shoulder look is guaranteed to take over for last years' baby doll dresses, so get a spot ready in your closet.

Spring 2008 Trend Alert: Tie-dyed fashions

dvf tie dyed dressWhenever I think of tie-dyed garments the first thing that comes to mind is 'summer camp' -- not going to summer camp (I was far too cool for that) but actually teaching summer camp. Working with dozens of children assisting them in creating a garment that was destined to be a disaster. Deep down I think the kids knew that their tie-dyed creations were a disaster too because they were seldom worn outside of campgrounds.

That was then, this is now.

When left to professionals, tie-dye can actually be cool. From dresses to swim wear, expect to see tie-dyed apparel make an appearance in your everyday attire this coming spring.

I am a fan of the floor length tie-dye gowns, they give an easy-breezy sort of feel and are easy to throw on and walk out the door. Pair your tie-dyed garments with flat gladiator sandals and a hobo style bag for a complete look.

2008's hottest polish, Chanel blue satin

Chanel Blue Satin Nailpolish
Last year Chanel's black satin nail polish was all the rage. Every celebrity was wearing it and bottles of the polish were being sold on eBay for around $60. This Spring Chanel blue satin is the color to covet and I got my hands on a bottle.

This is hands down my favorite nail polish. The nail polish goes on nice and thick so if you wanted to skip the second coat you easily could. I opted for two coats which goes on so dark and decadent it almost looks black in some lights but in others a sparkling navy blue.

There was buzz in the past about Chanel's nail polishes chipping easily but that simply isn't the case. I am the queen of chipped nails and I have gone almost four days without a chip using Chanel's polish.

Blue satin will most likely go fast but it is still available on Chanel.com. Ordering from Chanel was the most pleasant and super-secure experience I have had on the web. The package arrived in perfect condition, in a perfect Chanel box with two perfect Chanel samples.

Patricia Field design for real-life Barbies

Hopefully, you grew out of playing with Barbie dolls a long, long long time ago, but if you have it in you to dress yourself up like the imaginary blonde with impossible measurements, you can pick up Patricia Field's Barbie Luxe pieces for Spring 2008.

The designer, who is known for her styling of Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw, Ugly Betty, and the Devil Wears Prada, debuted the collection of Barbie-inspired sportswear, vintage-style dresses, jewelry and handbags at the Directives West fashion show in Los Angeles last week. The collection will launch on November 13 at the designer's store in New York.

NY Fashion Week: Cynthia Steffe

cynthia steffe new york fashion week spring 2008
Finally some color! Not that I haven't enjoyed the black, white, and shades of gray. But it was nice to see a splash of color, real color, not just a muted splash of yellow.

Cynthia Steffe's line looked like it walked inside an ice cream parlor or a candy shop. The colors were just what Spring is all about; bright pinks, greens, bright and bold shades of blue, and corals. Of course, there were some muted staples such as whites and grays.

The fabrics and cuts were very "Springy" too. The flowing fabrics and floral prints brought on that very feminine and romantic feeling that Spring often generates. But for those with a wilder side (read Spring Fever) there are mod inspired block prints, sassy squiggles, and bold stripes/ color blocks.

There is a little something for everyone.

I like to think Cynthia Steffe's lines are very attainable fashion. Women of any age could wear her designs, since they're neither too revealing nor too dowdy. The cuts are very flattering to many different body types as well. The twin-sets are perfect way to fashionable and modest at the work place.

Overall rating: Love it; this is what Spring is all about.
