Shoes of the Day: Hollywould Lauren Glitter Lace Pumps

hollywould lauren glitter lace pumpOne of the reasons we love/hate Holiday parties is the shoes we have/get to wear. On the one hand, we love that we "get" to wear pretty little party shoes with shiny, sparkly things to match the jewel tone cocktail dresses and upswept hair we'll be wearing. On the other hand, it's winter, and pretty little party shoes in the snow or rain don't do well. For this reason, we are reluctant to wear our $500 Jimmy Choo gold sandals and ruin them.

Fortunately, we have Hollywould for Target. Like other more expensive designers, Hollywould has gone the way of Isaac and others and has created a collection for Target. The "Lauren" black lace and glitter pumps that feature a sweet little black satin bow are perfect for that little black dress you'll be wearing to your Holiday party, but you won't feel bad if they only make it through the end of the night, because they're only $29.99.

Diddy's white party

Over the weekend, Sean "Diddy" Combs hosted the annual White Party at his home in East Hampton. The high-profile soiree courted the likes of Ashley Olsen, Mariah Carey, Star Jones and Busta Rhymes, who were all willing to forgo the freedom of fashion to comply with Diddy's strict you-must-wear-white dress code.

According to an AP report, Diddy was both pleased and proud of the event's success, saying, "This party is up there with the top three that I've thrown," Combs said. "It's a party that has legendary status. It's hard to throw a party that lives up to its legend."

True to form, Diddy did refuse entry to a handful of guests including Katie Lee (Billy Joel's wife), who foolishly chose to ignore the white dress code by wearing cream. A stupid move on her party, since when it comes to the White Party, Diddy gets his cake and eats it too, assuming that is, that said cake is white.

Glowing chair reveals your true weight

Changes color depending on your weightThis chair looks like something you'd see in those too-cool-for-school clubs that cater to people who wish their lives were more like liquor commercials. Just looking at makes me want to give some girl a flirty look, whisper something sexy in her ear, then casually remove the glass of Captain Morgan from her hand and drink it with a wry grin.

Clubs like this are stupid, and, chances are, you'd look stupid if you put this chair in your house.

But it does have a very interesting feature that might just make it worthwhile. The chair actually changes colors as it interacts with people -- becoming a darker shade of red depending on the weight of whoever is sitting on it.

I love that the mood of a party could be constantly shifting based on who's sitting or standing. However, the obvious drawback is that most people would be too nervous to use the chair, for fear that it'd turn dark red and draw attention to their weight -- so make sure you have confident friends before buying a few for your funky modern pad.

Seven Days of Style: Tips for a Haute Holiday Party

holiday entertainingHoney, you are the hostess with the mostest, so you certainly don't need anyone telling you how to throw a great party. However, with so many things happening at warp speed all at once right now, you're in a bit of a Holidaze. Did you put the vodka in the freezer? Did you hide all the old photos of you and your family from 12 years ago in the closet? Did you preheat the oven? Good gracious, girl, did you put on a bra?!?

See what I mean? Never fear. Styledash is here to help, with a few tips (reminders, right?) on how to throw a party that will go down in the history books (or will not, depending on your perspective).

Sunday - Pick a theme and stick to it. The easiest thing to do is just pick a color, Red and green are natural choices, but don't be afraid to go with something like purple, a la Betsey Johnson! Use the color theme everywhere, from the table settings to your outfit. Okay, actually, don't match your outfit to your party decor.

Monday - Be mindul of the lighting. Guests, especially if they don't all know each other, will be more comfortable if they don't feel like they are on display or under a spotlight. Dim or turn off overhead lighting, and set the mood with strings of lights, which are festive (especially if they're shaped like snowflakes!), or lots of candles, which are flattering and warm. If you're afraid of creating a fire hazard, use LED "candles" that give off a glow and save energy.

Tuesday - Music is important. It should be loud enough to "drown out" any awkward silences (not that there would be any at your party), but still soft enough that it doesn't turn your house into a nightclub. Unless, of course, you hung that disco ball from the ceiling for a reason. My favorite music is always in the downtempo electronic genre.

Party Animals are the new trend

hilton sisters partyingWhat's in fashion on the social scene? No, it isn't what you're wearing, it's how you're behaving. Or in this case, misbehaving.

Wild antics like getting dangerously drunk, dancing on tables, losing pieces of your outfit, and pretty much acting the way you did on your 21st birthday used to be the fast track for ruin for celebrities, A- and B- and even C-list alike. However, "in today's Hollywood, the harder you party, the more hip you are," says the Sydney Morning Herald.

Case(s) in point? The Hilton sisters come to mind right away, but also "always drunk" Entourage star Jeremy Piven, Mr. Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan. The question is why? And are these stars really partying that much harder than celebs of 10 years ago? It seems that it's all a play for publicity, and according to an industry insider, the stars were partying just as hard, but were doing it in private. These days, it's all about getting out in the public eye.
