Flatter Your Figure: Elongating a Short Torso

Most of us have things about our bodies we'd like to change -- you know, the grass is always greener anywhere but here, right? One of the important things to keep in mind when we're figuring out how to best disguise our least favorite body part is that there are other body parts that we do like, and so instead of just disguising, we want to look at how to draw attention elsewhere.

If your problem is a short torso, chances are that you have fairly long legs. While you don't want to wear teeny-tiny shorts around all the time to show off how long they are, keep them in mind while you shop, and don't be afraid to flaunt what you have. However, we have a few tips to help you keep your body looking proportional -- check out what we have to say in the gallery!

Why aren't you wearing this? L.A.M.B. 'Signature - Mandeville Small' Satchel

One of the things we love about being a girl is that we can be sweet and girly one minute, a vamp the next, and tough and sporty after that. And sometimes, if we find just the right outfit, we can be all of those things at once.

Flatter Your Figure: Summer Dresses for Busty Girls

Summer poses several obstacles for busty girls, with the main obstacle being the bra issue. With all the strapless, spaghetti strap, and halter options out there, ladies with a large chest can find it frustrating to find a summer dress they love with a neckline that allows them to have the proper support. Let's face it -- strapless bras just aren't for everyone.

Never fear -- there are plenty of sweet, summery dresses out there that are completely flattering for you. We want to accentuate your curves, but we don't want the bust and the cleavage to be all anyone sees. Click through the gallery for some tips on what will work best for you!

Flatter Your Figure: Dressing for Formal Events

Formal events are often the events for which we want to look our very best. You might be seeing people you haven't seen for a while, or meeting new people you'd like to impress. Either way, you want to look absolutely amazing.

The thing is, formal gowns often show body parts we normally keep covered, like our backs, shoulders, and arms, and they sometimes cling to our stomachs and hips in ways that are unflattering -- not exactly what we're going for on a big night out, right?

Here are some tips for working with your figure when finding a dress for a formal event:

Why aren't you wearing this? Skinny Silk Wrapped Headband

When you're looking for a little something to add to your 'do, you don't always want something big and bulky, and something bright and bold might not work with the rest of your outfit. But you still need a little something -- a little color or texture or bling.

We think this Cara Accessories Skinny Silk Wrapped Headband, available at Nordstrom for $44, is perfect for that. There is some fun color and texture there, so it can give your look a lift, but it's not so attention-grabbing that it really needs to match what you're wearing.

Why aren't you wearing this? Sbicca 'Rosey' Slide

We're all about a high, sexy heel, but truth be told, we're not all that likely to to wear a shoe like this out to run errands. Theoretically, it seems like a great idea, but doing a lot of purposeful walking in a stiletto doesn't really appeal. That being said, we don't want to give up the look of a heel and look like a schlub when we're out in public, right?

Do you ever worry, after dancing up a sweat with that hottie at the club, about how you smell? Wouldn't it be great to have a little something on your person that could spruce up your scent? Of course, there's no WAY you want to carry a whole bottle (even travel-sized) around in your purse all the time -- what if it spills?

White handbags are white-hot this summer, and with good reason -- they bring a bright, classic feel to any outfit, and, as you know, white goes with almost everything. And, sure, you could go with the uber-popular oversized clutch, but since your summer dresses don't come with pockets, why not invest in a bag that will carry all your summertime necessities?

Men rock the floral pattern

We've always been a fan of the floral pattern for men's shirts, sort of. We'll qualify that by saying that we totally denounce most Hawaiian patterns and all patterns that include pink roses that look like they've been lifted off an ugly 80's couch. That narrows it down, right?

Men's floral patterns are coming back, but it's mostly limited to the tight, monochromatic vintage styles. You know, the ones that you could kinda convince yourself that they're not actually flowers, but maybe just flower-like plants -- because they're so small. They're a great way to bring some color and rhythm into your wardrobe without having to go plaid -- not that there's anything wrong with plaid.

Chanel's waterproof eyeliner

Nordstrom- Chanel water-proof eyeliner
I am a huge fan of black eyeliner; in fact I wear it everyday. Problem is, by the end of the day my eyeliner is halfway down my face. For some reason I just accepted this horrible fate and wiped my eyes like a dummy every few hours. It wasn't until I was reading InStyle magazine the other day where I saw a little blurb about Ashley Simpson's favorite things.

Yes, it took Ashley Simpson to convince me there was a way around my raccoon eye problem. So hard for me to admit these things...

Ashley swears by Chanel's waterproof eyeliner pencil, she claims it stays on even during shows where she dancing around stage for hours (and not singing). If eyeliner can withstand lip-syncing and wild dancing then please sign me up for two.

Nordstrom on Facebook, MySpace

In an attempt to grab a bigger piece of the younger trendier market, it looks like Nordstrom has decided to finally take part in the whole social networking thing. Over the last couple of weeks, Nordstrom has been quietly launching its first ventures into the worlds of Facebook and Myspace.

Surprised? It's for their BP section, so it's probably a better idea than it sounds like at first. Their Myspace page is literally covered up in images of Pete Wentz and his hoodies -- just to give you an idea of what they're going for.

Pete Wentz to design for Nordstrom

Surprised to find out that Nordstrom is teaming up to do a collection with the guru of punky mall wear? Best known for playing bass in the horrible multi-platinum band Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz is quickly becoming the darling of the fashion world. His own clothing line, Clandestine Industries, will be releasing a spring and summer collection of graphic tees, jeans, hoodies and accessories exclusively at Nordstrom running from in April and July.

I guess it's really not that surprising, since Wentz already designed a capsule collection for DKNY that came out last August. Still, Nordstrom is not DKNY, which takes a lot of risks with guest designers. Maybe they just think that Wentz is a bit of a guarantee, having an enormous fan-base of emo adolescents couldn't hurt sales. Obviously, this line is geared for juniors who are inclined to wear t-shirts inspired by Wentz's tattoos, so it'll be on display in the BP section.

Apparently, his t-shirts and jeans are meant to be unisex -- that seems like a remarkably bad idea -- but whatever. It won't stop junior high kids from pouring in to watch the Pete Wentz behind-the-scenes DVD as they loiter around the store. Let's just hope that Nordstrom isn't contractually obligated to jam Fall Out Boy's greatest hits.

True Religion branches out with handbags

Over the last few years, True Religion has mesmerized us with their fabulous jeans and signature pockets (and $200+ price tags). The company has now decided to venture into non-trousered territory -- they'll now be offering handbags.

Leslie Hsu, previously with Calvin Klein and Tahari, has brought her talent to True Religion and will use fine hand-dyed cottons and Italian leathers for the line of handbags. The collection is set to include weekend bags, hobos, satchels, clutches, and key chains, all of which will incorporate True Religion's signature look of modern stylings with a bit of Western edge.

As you can probably guess, you're not going to get the True Religion look without the price tag. The Leyla Day Bag, pictured here, will cost you $758 at Nordstrom. Some of the smaller items are set to go for less, with the line ranging from $58 to $898, and the pieces will soon be available at department stores and boutiques the world over.

Dress of the Day: Nanette Lepore Buonissimo Swirl

Nanette Lepore Buonissimo DressAlready thinking of Spring? I certainly am and am looking forward to the first warm (dry) day I can wear something as fresh and cute as the Buonissimo Swirl dress from Nanette Lepore. The simple sheath is made of either a red or cobalt blue swirl pattern on cotton fabric. The front looks innocent enough with a cascade of bead detail from a high round neckline down the chest, but features a large keyhole opening in the back. In the Spring, it'll be bare legs and a pair of gleaming white round toe pumps.

Available from Nordstrom for $295.
