Why aren't you wearing this? Hanalei Day Tote

Have you ever fallen in love with a bag? It doesn't have to be an It Bag to be worthy of your admiration -- sometimes you just come across a handbag that encapsulates your personal style (or, at least, what you perceive to be your personal style that day). And that's when you know you have to have it.

Tip of the day: Start using Ojon... like right now.

We have never been so smitten with a product before than Ojon's Restorative Treatment. We love, love, love this product. We've tried countless hair treatments and have raided the local Sephora far too many times but this... this stuff is the real deal.

We first heard about Ojon when our silly obsession with Gisele Bunchen's long mane brought us to the word. "Gisele uses Ojon. Must learn more." Apparently a little tribe in Central America called the Miskito Indians has been harvesting the fruits of the tree that bears the Ojon oil for centuries. When the tribe was discovered one of the first things noted was their stunning hair and skin. We mean, well... hot damn, just check out that kid's hair in the picture!

Still not convinced? Here are some more reasons you should totally give this stuff a whirl.

Why aren't you wearing this? Amazonite and Turquoise Necklace

Our perfectly sunkissed bronze skin (which totally came out of a bottle --shh! Don't tell anyone!) is so easy to accessorize. Whereas during the winter we have to be more careful about color so we don't look washed out, during the summer we are invincible. Bright, simple white makes us look like we're glowing. Corals just accentuate our golden goddess status. And blue and greens? They help our eyes to pop, plus they remind us of the ocean and beach, which is where we were (in our minds) when we developed our fabulous tan.

Organic t-shirts from Target

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

If we had to pick one store that we couldn't live without it would most likely be Target. Sure, other stores sell fancier things and have more ambiance, but from the minute we buy our customary bag of popcorn and Icee for ONE DOLLAR, we're in and we're hooked. They have everything in there. Seriously, we looked.

Why aren't you wearing this? Gold Double Bamboo Enamel Hoops

Some women just have a "natural beauty" vibe. They look fantastic with their hair messy and undone, and loose, flowing dresses only enhance their radiance. These women wear earthy colors and natural fibers, and they look spectacular.

However, that look doesn't work for everybody. For those of you who would prefer gold and diamonds to wooden bangles, there is still a way for you to pull of a more natural look while flaunting your own flair.

Why aren't you wearing this? Fossil Brown Dial Wood Watch

Some people (you might be one of them) just can't function without a watch. They put it on even before they have their first cup of coffee, and it has a special place near the bed to be stored overnight, making it easy to take it off right before going to sleep.

We have no problem with this -- it encourages punctuality, which is a great quality. However, it becomes a problem when the watch you wear is just a plain, boring, functional timepiece. We get it -- it has to go with everything. But can't it have a little style?

Take the Spiegel signature style quiz

Sometimes I think I'm a fashion schizophrenic. I like bright, bold prints and funky styles. But I also like soft, neutral, flowy looks. I like metallics and sexy black outfits, but I'm a sucker for a romantic sundress.

So, when I saw that Spiegel had a What's Your Signature Style quiz (with examples at the end for all but one style), I jumped right in (plus, who doesn't like quizzes?). It's haaard ... there were several questions for which I could have easily chosen two (or more) different answers. But, when I finished, my style was Natural Sophistication. Hmm, really?

Dress of the Day: Sublet Alison Dress

sublet alison dressIt's Spring, which means you have to do the roommate shuffle in just a few short months when you head back home for the summer. Finding someone to sublet your place is a real pain.

Unless you're Tara Eisenberg and Inessah Selditz, who found each other looking for apartments, and ended up creating Sublet, an eco-friendly clothing line.

The Alison Dress is made of 30% organic cotton, 67% bamboo, and
3% spandex. The Alison dress has a deep V-neckline with graceful pleating throughout the front and back and a contrast twill tape at the empire waist. Obviously, I love this dress because it has pockets.

The dress comes in natural, black, and olive, and is available at Sublet's website for $242.

What's so special about mineral make-up?

I freely admit, I haven't tried mineral make-up yet. I guess I'm skeptical -- I mean, what's so great about it? Yeah, it comes from the earth. So do brussels sprouts, and I'm not such a big fan of those.

Still, lots of people swear by it, so, I did a little research to see what all the fuss is about. Stylelist had a slideshow of different mineral make-up products and why they're superior to everything in my current cosmetics arsenal. And ... I'm still not sold, but here's what I learned:

Indie Designer Interviews: Anita Grant Natural Hair & Skin Care

I'm a big fan of all of the amazing independent designers out there. In an effort to get inside the mind of the indie designer and find out just what makes all of these creative types tick, I present to you an ongoing segment I call Indie Designer Interviews.

Tell me a little about your company.
On December 5th, 2005 AnitaGrant.com was created, by the all round self-proclaimed cosmetic-label-reader-ingredient junkie-mixtress, Anita. At anitagrant.com we believe in cultural focus by purchasing directly from farming communities and/or partnerships with fair trade suppliers throughout the world, helping to maintain economic independence & cultural survival. Using a variety of plant-based ingredients from different countries around the globe; we are celebrating ecological & cultural diversity.

How did you get started running your business? It wasn't until I blistered my hands using a store bought bottle of so called "safe synthetics" that I decided not to purchase another off the shelf hair care product again. Since 2005, I've been making my own brand of natural and organic skin care and hair care. You shouldn't need a degree in bio-chemistry to understand the ingredient list of a hair care or skin care product label. It was a bit difficult at first to decipher all the Latin (INCI) nomenclature of the ingredients and separate the "bozwellox" from true benefits but I got there in the end. It's so liberating to be able to read the label of a product, understand the ingredients contained within and say "NATURALLY, I can do better."

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? If I were trapped on a desert island it better be one with a Coconut tree and fresh Coconuts hanging from it. I would cut it open and eat the fresh white meat, rub a bit of the Coconut water on my hands and moisturize my skin and curly Afro hair with it - loads of uses.

Frizzy and fabulous

Alright, curly girls. It's time to put away the flat iron you've had plugged in for several years and close the door to your Closet of Hair Product. Don't worry, the terror you're feeling will subside once you realize that you can save hours of your life because of the following statement: Frizzy is the New Fabulous.

Natural is coming into fashion this spring for all hair types, but the girls with the curls will be most affected because, generally speaking, they spend the most time and product on styling their hair until it looks "done." Forget flattening your bouncy ringlets, and don't worry about taming them with gel -- try letting your locks flow free, and just see how it feels!

Designers like BCBG and Betsey Johnson showed models with hair that was purposefully undone, giving the women a natural and feminine look. Take advantage of this trend now -- how often is it that you can get away with not doing your hair for the sake of fashion?

The new Burt's Bees natural beauty campaign: How natural is it?

Words like natural and organic sure get tossed around a lot in the beauty industry. According to The Organic Beauty Expert, Burt's Bees might want to back off on the natural terminology, which could be tough since their new campaign is Natural Versus.

Burt's Bees recently teamed with Mike Indursky, who did wonders with L'Oreal in terms of boosting sales. However, the target market for Burt's Bees is a little different than that for L'Oreal -- they care more about how their products are made than which celebrity swears by them. And the hardcore natural beauty girls are a bit more educated about what should be in their products -- they're not just going to take a fancy schmancy ad at face value.

Natural Beauty: The Power of Tea

Salon Tea Eye GelTea.

It's so proper, so tasty, so beneficial to one's health. It makes you wonder why we don't use tea more often in our lives. Well, you don't have to rack your brain thinking of how you can show a cup of tea more love (pretty sure you have other things to think about) because Tracey Stern has taken care of that for you.

For this tea junkie, collecting tea cups and drinking nearly a dozen cups a day wasn't enough so she took her love for all things tea to the next level by developing tea-based beauty elixirs. Have tired and puffy eyes? Try some EyeGel Tea, the lubricating liposomes revitalize and provide a cooling sensation while the antioxidant benefits of green tea refresh and rejuvenate. Not bad huh?

It wouldn't be proper to leave you without a little tea etiquette from Tracey: "When drinking tea, refrain from pointing the pinky finger in the air." Don't say I never told you anything useful.

Searching for a sensitive skin sunscreen

Skin can be a funny thing. Some days you feel like your skin can take just about anything. But other days? Well, less so.

If your skin reacts poorly to a full-blown sunscreen, you might want to give natural sunscreen a try.

Organic sunscreen? I know, I mean, by its very nature, sunscreen is something that blocks out what is perhaps the most natural element on earth: sunlight. But Kiss My Face Face Factor does just that with a rich dose of Alpha Lipoic Acid, Green Tea Extract, and a special formula called Zoe, which contains Linoleic Ester that actually decreases your sensitivity to sunscreens.

Face Factor comes in SPF 15 & 30 (always use 30!) and it lasts up to 80 minutes in water or excessive perspiration. At $10 for 2 oz, it's not cheap, but whoever thought that staying young and beautiful would be?
