Good morning, California babes.

In case you haven't went wild with your stimulus check yet, you might want to consider stopping by a very righteous sale occurring in your backyard this weekend.

Perez's Hot Topic launch draws 7

As predicted by our own Whit Honea, Perez Hilton's celebrity line looks like it's going to crash and burn in true blog-worthy fashion. According to New York Magazine, a grand total of 7 loyal fans showed up at the LA Hot Topic where Perez was hanging out to celebrate the launch. Frankly, we're a little embarrassed for him. Here's what a supposed Hot Topic employee had to say about the fiasco:

"Mario was BEYOND upset texting and DEMENDING the right water, food,ETC he was a rude royal pain in the ass and BEYOND crass... My manager was trying to get people to come in to meet Perez by handing out $5 gift cards NO ONE WANTED TO MEET HIM! ...he left around 8:45PM without saying goodbye to anyone & looked like he had been crying like the little bitch he is. We sold a grand total of $6.45 of Perez Hilton items between 6PM - 9PM. My manager has already talked about discounting his 'line'!"

American Apparel's underwear party

Dov Charney's genius in the perverted arts and sciences has long been the subject of rigorous debate and legal actions. Well, last Friday's LA Pride festivities brought with it another opportunity for American Apparel's CEO to showcase his rare talent at coaxing free advertising out of America's sex-crazed twenty-somethings.

American Apparel's LA store hosted a party that included the first inaugural 'LA Pride Underwear Contest,' where the winner could appear in an American Apparel underwear ad for free, and receive a gift package -- get it? For clothing that for the most part isn't all that sexy, American Apparel certainly manages to get the most mileage out of their soft-core porn marketing ideas. Sleazy, yes -- but we still kinda wish we could have been at the party. The flier is what really gets us -- click here to see the full flier. NSFW.

Damien Hirst x Warhol Factory x Levi's

warhol damien hirst party los angelesLast night I partied like the Warhol muse that I think I am at Fred Segal in Santa Monica. The event celebrated Fred Segal's new pop-up store, which exclusively carries the collection by Damien Hirst in collaboration with the Warhol Factory and Levi's.

The scene was not your typical fashion-event-going crowd; it was very (very) hipster -- lots of grungy boys and girls wearing hoodies, sneakers and jeans (which of course was fitting considering the collection was based on those pieces). DJ's were spinning, drinks were being mixed, and photographers were snapping away -- Warhol would have been proud.

The collection itself was pretty darn cool too! Amazing skull bedazzled jeans, skull printed short-shorts, tee shirts, and one of my favorite pieces were the shiny leather jackets. In fact, I liked the jacket so much that I got one of the hipsters to model it for me.

Check out the store at Fred Segal in Santa Monica on Broadway and 4th Street (420 Broadway).

LA Fashion Week: Orthodox

orthodox fall 2008After my head stopped spinning from the horror called IMASU by Kelly Nishimoto I needed two things ... a cocktail and a better runway show. I suppose I got both with Orthodox but I have a sneaking suspicion the cocktail helped me enjoy the second show more.

The show was short with only 22 looks in the collection and showcased both men's and women's fashions. The overall feel to me was slacker chic, which was the perfect match for the Nirvana cover song they played to open the show. Some key trends I picked out of the collection were metallics, geek glasses, ombre, purple, and gloves.

The great thing about the collection is that it was very wearable and that is exactly what I have to come to expect during LA Fashion Week shows. There was a fair amount of black and white in collection, which is perfect for mixing and matching. Nothing in the collection was too over-the-top so you could literally rip the clothes right off the runway and be on your way.

It looks like LA Fashion Week is starting to look up after all.

LA Fashion Week: IMASU by Kelly Nishimoto

Kelly NishimotoL.A. Fashion Week kicked off at 4pm on Sunday with a show by Kelly Nishimoto. Who? Yeah, that's what I said. A no-name opening up Fashion Week was a bad sign but I tried to remain positive. My positive spirit started to diminish after waiting for 45 minutes for the show to start. Listen Kelly, you ain't no Marc Jacobs sweetie! Let's start the show on time.

Once the show got underway I couldn't wait for it to end. It was dreadful. If I were to give the show a name it would be 'The joker and the thief and Kelly Nishimoto' because it looked like a medieval nightmare. There was crazy ribbon work, hoods, ruffles in all the wrong places, tassels, bows -- she basically took every Fall 2008 trend and piled them into one hellish collection.

The end of the show when Kelly came out to take her bow was the real kicker though. Most designers step out a few feet, bow, and turn around to get the hell off the stage. Kelly, her model, and a man dressed up in a Pink Panther costume (I can't make this stuff up people) took a good 5 minutes to get down the runway. Once the clan got to the end Kelly wouldn't leave the end of the runway. She stayed down there posing like a dope for so long that her model left the runway and the photographers actually stopped snapping photos. I was mortified for her.

If LA Fashion Week keeps at this pace it's going to be a long week.

LA Fashion Week: The line up

los angelesIt's almost that time again, Fashion Week -- this time in L.A. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, CA will run March 9-13th showcasing L.A. designer's Fall/Winter collections for 2008. The preliminary list of designers has been officially announced to include the following designers:
  • Kelly Nishimoto
  • Orthodox Clothing
  • Julia Clancey
  • Whitley Kros
  • Octavio Carlin
  • Joseph Domingo
  • Suh-Tahn
  • Falguni Creations
  • Bow & Arrow by Alan Del Rosario
  • Lauren Conrad Collection
  • Maggie Barry for Xubaz
  • Nicholai
  • The Gallery
  • Jenny Han
  • Kevan Hall
  • Samora
  • Monarchy Collection
  • Ashley Paige
  • Pussycat Dolls
As you look at the line up there is probably a bunch of "who the hell's" floating out there but that is normal seeing as many of these designers are debuting their collections for the first time.

I am looking forward to seeing Ashley Paige, Jenny Han, Monarchy, and Orthodox. I also am excited to see two train wrecks unfold on the runway with the Lauren Conrad Collection and (vomit) the Pussycat Dolls -- why again are they showing at Fashion Week?!

Stay tuned because StyleDash will be there through the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Lindsay Lohan, sometimes she impresses us

lindsay lohan in LASome of us are wild about her and some of us wouldn't think twice about, well, thinking about her. For those of us in the latter category, we were quite surprised by our reaction when we saw a recent picture of Lindsay Lohan stepping out casually in LA. In fact, we might say that we love the I-just-threw-this-thing-on-but-still-look-pretty-damn-good look of the loosely pulled-back hair to reveal big, hoop earrings and a simple necklace. We couldn't see her shoes, but we're quite certain Lindsay's rocking knee high boots under what probably what does it for us, though -- the soft, comfortable hoodie sweater dress. We're not exactly sure where the dress is from, but we like the color and the idea, so we're on a hunt for something similar, like a cashmere dress in a like color available at Bluefly or a Joie sweater dress available from ShopBop.

Hometown hoops show your pride

la hoop earrings kitsonThis one is for all of you California girls.

Forget nameplate necklaces and area code bling because it's all about showing some love with Noir's hoop earrings.

I found these great earrings at Kitson last week and I just can't get them off of my mind. These 2½" hoop earrings say "Los Angeles" on one ear and "Melrose Ave, Hollywood, Venice, Beverly Hills and Compton" on the other. These earrings are a must have for the LA girl on your holiday shopping list. I know I plan on putting these on my own wishlist.

And for the New Yorkers, your earrings will read "New York" on one ear and "Chelsea, SOHO, Chinatown, Lower East Side, and Harlem" on the other. Each pair of earrings is $85 and can be purchased at the Kitson boutique in Los Angeles or online.

A "less intimidating" Chanel opening in L.A.

chanel logoAs down to earth as Karl Lagerfeld and the gang may seem, walking into a Chanel boutique can be down right intimidating. The snooty boutique girls aren't interested in people "just browsing" because they work at Chanel and they are better than you.

Thankfully, a less intimidating Chanel boutique is opening up in Los Angeles not far from the Beverly Hills flagship store on Rodeo Drive. The second outpost will be located on the paparazzi-ridden Robertson Boulevard. Robertson Boulevard is home to hip little shops like Kitson, Lisa Kline, Intermix, and the Ivy restaurant. The new Chanel boutique is going to target a younger crowd, similar to the Chanel in Soho (NYC).

I am thrilled about the new shop opening and I am sure all of young Hollywood is too, as Robertson is their "it" street of the moment.

Patricia Field design for real-life Barbies

patricia field does barbie at directives west
Hopefully, you grew out of playing with Barbie dolls a long, long long time ago, but if you have it in you to dress yourself up like the imaginary blonde with impossible measurements, you can pick up Patricia Field's Barbie Luxe pieces for Spring 2008.

The designer, who is known for her styling of Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw, Ugly Betty, and the Devil Wears Prada, debuted the collection of Barbie-inspired sportswear, vintage-style dresses, jewelry and handbags at the Directives West fashion show in Los Angeles last week. The collection will launch on November 13 at the designer's store in New York.

Kiki de Montparnasse is open in LA

kiki de montparnasse
Oh, boy.

And by "oh, boy," I mean the boys in LA have got to be loving the fact that Kiki de Montparnasse has opened up a store in the City of Angels. In case you don't know who, or what, Kiki de Montparnasse is, let me give you a little heads up. Kiki de Montparnasse is a line of ultra high-end lingerie that celebrates "sexy." In fact, some of it's downright "kinky," but in a luxurious, sophisticated way. We're not talking about Trashy or Frederick's here. Not sure what I mean? Take a peek at some of KdM's pieces.

The new store in LA features an aphrodisiac garden, the store set up like a boudoir, and best of all, plush dressing rooms that, in the spirit of sensual exploration, come equipped with accessories, mirrors, and multiple light settings.

Takashi Murakami hits the MOCA in Los Angeles

murakamiLA Fashion Week may be coming to an end but the fashion fun isn't over in the City of Angels.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles will be presenting work from Takashi Murakami October 28, 2007 through February 11, 2008.

Murakami is best known in the fashion world for his collaboration with Louis Vuitton, under Marc Jacobs' creative direction. The exhibit will include selections from the early 1990s to the present. Murakami's exhibit will occupy 20,000 square feet and will have over 90 works in various media.

Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the exhibit (to me) is the 1,000-square-foot Vuitton mini-boutique on the museum's mezzanine floor. The shop will include an extensive line of handbags and accessories created for the show.

Dress of the Day: Wren Clothing

wren clothingLike yesterday's gold turtleneck minidress from Christian Weber, today's Dress of the Day comes from a relatively fresh face in fashion as featured last Friday at GenArt's fashion show in Los Angeles - Wren Clothing.

With shades of purple a key color for fall, the deep, royal purple minidress with patch pockets in front is perfect as we head into cold weather. You can throw a coat over the short, banded puff sleeves, and to make it even warmer, take a cue from the model and add some thick black tights.

I haven't been able to find any online sources for purchasing Wren Clothing, but it available at Opening Ceremony in both New York and Los Angeles.

Dress of the Day: Christian Weber Gold Minidress

christian weber gold minidressThis past Friday, your Styledash team hit up the GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion event in Los Angeles, which we'll be writing about in more detail later. We were introduced to a few relatively new names in fashion, and one of them is Christian Weber, who was most recently at BCBG Max Azria and Rock & Republic before starting his own line in 2006.

The gold long sleeve minidress is part of Christian Weber's Fall 2007 Collection, aptly named "Arms and Armor" for the permanent exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

How perfect is this dress for either a night on the town with the ladies, or dressed up a little more for a swanky Holiday party?
