And you thought a fashion mag editor barely eats during Fashion Week

diary of a foodie fashion bloggerAbout a month ago, we posted about how New York Magazine followed the diets of four people fom the fashion world during New York's Fall 2007 Fashion Week. With all of the hype about skinny models and low BMIs, we would have expected to see the diets of the two models to include pretty much just water and uh, water? We were wrong. As it turns out, it was the fashion magazine editor who ate the least!

Well, I'm here to surprise us even more! It seems that a fashion and food blogger eats almost as little as a magazine editor! Yes, kittens, I decided it would be fun to do the same thing while covering LA Fashion Week last week so I kept track of everything I ingested (except a few bottles of water here and there) for the five days of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Based on my diet I think I'm okay as a fashion blogger, but I might have lost my street cred as a food blogger! I rarely ate breakfast other than coffee and vitamins, I ate a few salads for lunch, almost nothing for dinner. The detailed diary is over on Slashfood.

Tart Fall 2007 at LA Fashion Week

tart fall 2007
Tart is certainly a change of pace after seeing the colored chaos of graffiti- and tattoo-inspired fashions of Ed Hardy. Tart's color palette was subdued with deep wine, rich eggplant, scarlet, black, and white showing up as solids in short mini-dresses, and all together in a bold-print that looked more appropriate for sundresses in the warmer months than autumn. The entire collection looked comfortable and very wearable. My favorite is the dress shown on the left with puffed ¾-length sleeved, a rounded v-neck, draped sides, and of course, that super-high hemline that's screaming for some nude-colored knee-high boots.

Ed Hardy Fall 2007 at LA Fashion Week

ed hardy fall 2007 la fashion week
Don't think that the only excitement at the Ed Hardy Fall 2007 Collection runway show at LA Fashion Week was Janice Dickinson getting kicked out then banned from all future Fashion Weeks. The Ed Hardy show itself was quite a sight. The runway was colored in hot pinkish red (totally reminds me of Betsey Johnson), there were colorful balloons, and the line's name glowed neon at the back. It was the perfect backdrop, of course, to a show that was all about trailer trashy tattooed punk rocker-goes-to-the carnival. All the knit and sportswear that designer Christian Audigier showed was bright, colorful, and featured circus animals like tigers, and a fake python wrapped around a model's neck. Men's clothing didn't seem quite as outrageous as the women's, though there was definitely some attitude with models ripping open their t-shirts and giving the finger at the end of the catwalk.

Eva Longoria is cute and tiny

eva longoria and rebecca romijn at bebe fall 2007Eva Longoria was at the Bebe Collection Fall 2007 runway show for LA Fashion Week. Why wouldn't she be? She is now the new face of Bebe Sport, which seems like an odd pick to me, even though I adore her.

Though she looks like a fairly voluptuous woman, Eva Longoria is teeny tiny - she makes Rebecca Romijn look like an Amazon! How adorable is Eva in that little black dress, which she paired with black peep-toe heels (black peep toe is the flavor of the month, it seems). The only thing I didn't like is the new hair style. You can't tell from the photo, but it's straight and shorter, almost a long bob.

Sorry Eva, you're cute and tiny and utterly adorable, but I like you better with the long waves.

Dina Bar-El Fall 2007 at LA Fashion Week

dina bar-el fall 2007
Dina Bar-El's Fall 2007 collection most certainly lived up to its name "Burlesque." Aside from an actual
Burlesque dancer who made an appearance (and quite an appearance, at that), the looks were all about being a '40s or '50s-inspired sexy siren. The Burlesque looks were all black and red, with models in eye masks, veils, and opera length gloves, old-school Hollywood glamour girls had rolled hair atop shimmering evening gowns and feather boas and takes on the "pin-up" girl went from short little dresses that almost looked like uniforms to a smashing all white sailor look. Though the glamour was all there, the look was a deaprture from the giraffe and animal prints that were shown during the Spring 2007 show last fall. This time, much more wearable. Even the eye masks.

Voom by Joy Han Fall 2007 at LA Fashion Week

voom by joy han fall 2007
We saw Voom by Joy Han yesterday with a bright turquoise cap-sleeve trench as a Dress of the Day, and the Fall 2007 collection, though a totally different look, still had that sort of fun, flirtatious feel. Models sported odd puffed out bowl-hair-cut styles which, embarassingly enough, my Mom forced on me when I was in elementary school.

However, the hair styles matched the retro-mod print on several of the dresses, as well as my favorite of the collection, an army green quilted puffer spacesuit dress. Of course, I would wear it without the blouse underneath. The dresses were feminine in shape (though somewhat shapeless), like the two shown on the left and right, and featured interesting designs printed on the fabric. The light, airy dresses paired with either black tights or thigh high boots? Awesome.

Sue Wong Fall 2007 at LA Fashion Week

sue wong fall 2007
Sue Wong's runway is always sure to be fun since many of her designs fall into the evening category. Her Fall 2007 collection, which she showed for the Mercede-Benz IMG Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios was like an enormous box of sparkling gel pens (you know, those gel pens that 'tween girls use that have glitter in them) exploded all over Austin Powers' Fembots' evening wear wardrobe. The dresses definitely had a '60s feel in both silhouette and the use of large geometric floral patterns. I'm not too fond of the bright, colorful matching top hats with the dresses, particularly one that made a short green dress look like a leprechaun's outfit, but I couldn't help, of course, to fall head over heels with a hot pink shift with sparkle. There were, of course, more subdued looks, like a sparkling black mini-dress with deep cutaways at the shoulder and collar that wrapped around the neck, but how much fun is that?

Still, pretty fun.

Love it or leave it: Off the runway at Bebe

what Sarah wore to Bebe showWith just the two comments I received on the rocker-chic outfit I wore last Monday to the shows (which included Morphine Generation), I am a little more confident about posting photos of outfits I wore during the rest of the week. Consider this some very in-your-face encouragement to join the Styledash Flickr group and posting pictures of your own outfits!

This is a little outfit I threw together at the last minutes because I spent the better part of morning blogging! The top is a lined mesh leopard-print that has a sort of sweet but vamp-y look. I paired it with a black narrow pencil skirt. Don't worry. Even though I have a pair of leopard print peep-toe shoes that have red leather detail, my sister told me not to go the way of a Vegas tourist. I wore black ankle strap stiletto heels with a fiercely pointy toe.

What do you think? Do you love it or should I leave it in my closet?

LA Fashion Week: Dina Bar-El goes to the zoo

dina bar-el giraffe short evening gownDina Bar-El makes evening gowns that have been seen all over the celebrity world: on Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, and Nicollete Sheridan in international ad campaigns for Desperate Housewives, Geena Davis, Sharon Stone, Tyra Banks, Angela Bassett, Kelly Rowman, Holly Robinson-Peete, Kelly Hu, and no one will forget the gorgeous sunshine yellow satin dress on Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Bar-El's gowns. They are elegant, lady-like, and very sexy.

Her Spring collection held no surprises, except that animal prints we have seen before seemed to play a bigger role. Not only was there the quintessential leopard print, but also an unidentifiable hybrid snow leopard-cheetah, and the giraffe. I have a strange attraction to giraffe, and was wowed by a short giraffe-print dress. I can't really imagine wearing it out, but it was fun to look at.

More photos I took of Dina Bar-El's Spring 2007 collection is available on Flickr.

We've almost fully recovered from Fashion Week

mercedes benx fashion weekIt officially ended last Thursday, but we are still reeling.

Deidre and I were running around Smashbox Studios all of last week getting our fill all the pretty (and not so pretty) little things for Spring 2007 at LA's Fashion Week, sponsored by Mercedes Benz. Obviously, between two people, we didn't get to every single show, and for some of them, we didn't even get invitation, but hey, bitterness on a blog is so becoming.

We've already put up some stuff, but boy do we have a lot more coming!

LA Fashion Week: Watch a show, win a prize

The flirty floral fashions of Uriel Saenz

Here's my video from the front row at the Uriel Saenz show at LA Fashion Week. I've never been front row before and it was a lot of fun to watch the show from this perspective. Saenz is an LA-based designer who delights in designing for the female form. His first job in the industry was in a trim house in Los Angeles and this training shows in his love of embellishment and the extra detail that make an outfit special.

Ashley Paige's bikini babes

Before you know it, bikini season will roll around again. Check out what might be hot next spring with the Spring 2007 line from Ashley Paige that I recently saw at LA Fashion Week. Ashley Paige's California girl designs have shown up on some of Hollywood's hottest bods and this latest line of 1960s-inspired beachwear does not disappoint.

Watching the Elsie Katz show at LA Fashion Week

I am a big fan of the very feminine glamour of Elsie Katz Couture. Here's a little one minute video shot from my vantage point in the third row that gives you a flavor of the very beautiful designs on display.
