Italian Vogue is all black, Paris couture show all white

The media has been abuzz about the July issue of Italian Vogue which will feature over 150 pages dedicated exclusively to black models and stories about successful black entertainers and performers. Famed photographer Steven Meisel -- you may remember him from his Naked Madonna days -- was selected by Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani to shoot the issue.

The issue will feature new faces like Jourdan Dunn alongside famed beauties like Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek. Sozzani says she was inspired by Barrack Obama's historic presidential campaign. Her intention was to spark conversations about race, and to demonstrate that there is more to beauty than blond, blue eyed Russian models.

Gessato: Italian for your face

To refer to Gessato's shaving treatment as shaving cream would be like calling gelato an ice cream. It ain't right.

Sure, gelato and ice cream are both made with milk and sugar, but... oh, sorry.

Gessato, as a company, is "Italian artisanship with modern formulations." This means that they make and market their products "in the United States with an Italian sensibility for time-hewn craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail."

Karen Allen was very busy knitting, not thinking about Indiana Jones at all

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
is fun and action-packed. Total summertime fun. Plus, it brings back Karen Allen as the feisty Marion Ravenwood, our favorite heroine from the films. Are you aware that she has the best action figure of all time from the original film? Also, she's an innovative knitwear designer.

Karen went to FIT when she was 17, and returned in 2002 to study machine kitting technology. In 2003 she opened her own studio in Great Barrington, Massachusetts where she produces beautiful sweaters, scarves, hats, gloves and more, all made of Italian and Scottish cashmere.

Roberto Cavalli moonstone ring is over the top fab

Roberto Cavalli is the designer of choice for divas like the Spice Girls, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Heidi Klum. He inexplicably selected Amy Winehouse to be his latest muse/model.

Remember when he dressed up as Karl Lagerfeld for Halloween? He is Italian and he is bold.

Reading in the tub... in the bookcase

We only have one bathroom in our house. Luckily, I work from home and seldom shower so our time conflicts are held to a minimum. Of course, even if I wanted to spend a moment in the bathroom I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. My two small boys see to that. The idea of having quality time in there is just a dream in our house, something that only happens in songs and movies. What songs? How about Rubber Ducky? See, I know what I'm talking about.

That is why I was so excited when I saw this Biblio tub from Antonio Lupi which features a beautiful rectangular tub with clean lines and lots of space (length, I'm 6'3) built into a bookcase frame. How sweet is that?

It's amazing what you can get for $17,000 these days. A library for the bathtub. It's too rich for my pocket, but not for my dreams.
