Today's interview is with handbag designer Joanna Baker of Jobie Boutique, a line of handcrafted bags perfect for women of any age. Joanna creates hobos, satchels, wristlets and cosmetic cases using high-quality, classic materials such as leather and suede paired with cotton canvas in timeless prints like paisley and houndstooth.

I'm a big fan of all of the amazing independent designers out there. In an effort to get inside the mind of the indie designer and find out just what makes all of these creative types tick, I present to you an ongoing segment I call Indie Designer Interviews.

One of my favorite alternative clothing designers is Lori Marsha, who got her start designing handbags and jewelry almost ten years ago and has more recently expanded her work to include some stunning revamped and recycled wearable works of art. Her pieces aren't for everyone, but for those who aren't afraid to stand out and who are looking for a truly one-of-a-kind look, Lori Marsha's designs are absolutely inspiring.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I design one of a kind garments and accessories from primarily recycled components. I work from my home in Redlands, California and enjoy the solitude and joy that comes with the creative process.

Do you ever think to yourself, "Hey, I wonder what I would wear if I were X?" For the X, of course, you insert an descriptive noun referring to a person or group with a distinctive dress. For instance, "If I were Kelly Ripa, I wouldn't wear my clothes so dang tight." Or, "If I were a sporty girl, I would totally wear red Puma warm-up suits everyday."

While searching through TopShop's website, I came across this sleeveless jade dress. It's not my style (THANK GOD!), but it's definitely someone else's -- probably someone who also likes Deerhoof, the Hanson Brothers, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Parliament cigarettes. And "If I were this indie rocker version of myself, I would totally love this dress." I would dig the ruffles and the cinched waist, which have an almost Little House on the Prairie thing going on, which is, I think the female equivalent of the ever-popular western grease ball hipster look.

But thankfully, I don't like Deerhoof, Pabst Blue Ribbon or Parliaments (I don't even smoke!), so I think I'll just admire this little frock from afar.
