Attus goes green, probably offends someone

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Attus Apparel, the guys that brought you these wonderful polos and current world record holder for the most popped collars worn at one time (23) have finally gone green. It was a long time coming.

Coffin Couches: Green and creepy

Have you ever seen a piece of furniture that you were just dying to have? Be careful what you ask for. Coffin Couches make sofas from actual recycled caskets. We're not sure how to tie that together, but it felt right.

Coffin Couches is the ultimate in green furniture design. The couches are made from coffins that they acquired from funeral homes. Apparently, due to health and safety issues, it is illegal for the general public to purchase used coffins, so the company was able to approach the funeral directors with the mindset of recycling.

Keeping it Simple

Simply put, Simple brand shoes have always ruled, but their ecoSNEAKS and GreenToe (Green Piggies for the kiddies) lines are so fantastic that we feel a bit guilty wearing anything else.

Simple started out as a "stereotypical, anti-stereotype brand offering good shoes." They claim to have learned a few things along the way, and we are inclined to believe them. They say the biggest lesson thus far is this: "HOW we make our shoes is just as important as WHY we make them."

Wet Seal shows love for Mother Earth

This might be the clearest case of "green washing," we've ever seen. Wet Seal has a line of eco-fashion, that's not actually made with any organic or sustainable materials.

Dress of the Day: Isaac Mizrahi Color Block Dress

mizrahi color block dressWe love the look of navy blue and white for Spring, and this year, we're seeing a splash of kelly green added to the color duo all over the place to make for a striking threesome. Isaac Mizrahi's Color Block dress really allows the color combination to stand out with a 100% polyester matte jersey color blocked dress. The dress features a high neck, cut away sleeves, a classic long lean silhouette, and the navy blue, contrasting lighter blue, and kelly green. We love this dress for a casual day look with a pair of navy blue ballet flats, or dressed up for a weekend brunch with Mom and Dad with a pair of round-toe navy and white spectator pumps.

The dress is available from Target.com for $29.99.

Indie Designer Interviews: OlovesM Eco-friendly Bags

OlovesM eco-friendly bag made from recycled materialsI'm a big fan of all of the amazing independent designers out there. In an effort to get inside the mind of the indie designer and find out just what makes all of these creative types tick, I present to you an ongoing segment I call Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's interview is with Merle OBrien, the Aspen, Colorado-based designer behind a line of eco handbags called OlovesM, which were recently handed out to celebs attending the Sundance Film Festival. These fashionable and environmentally friendly bags feature predominantly recycled materials, including a snazzy sport/diaper bag made from repurposed yoga mats.

How did you get started as a designer? I was in yoga class and the idea for my bags just popped into my head, so I ran off my mat and started doing a ton of research, and cut and sewed a lot of prototypes until I figured it out. I am one of those people who is always thinking about ideas, and some seem to work, while others just help me learn more do's and dont's about business!!

Stay dry and save the earth with this umbrella

Alright, folks -- for many of us, the rainy season is nigh, and that means breaking out the umbrella to protect the rest of your fabulous clothing. While I love the idea of having cutesy, happy ones, I have to tell you that I never remember to bring one inside with me unless it's already raining, so I don't generally end up spending too much on them.

However, for something that's reasonably cute and helps the planet, I might have to reconsider.

Organic soap that doesn't smell like a salad

Savon de Marseilles Organic Bar Soap: Verbena
Organic beauty products are great, I would even go as far as saying they are fabulous. However, sometimes you get a dud and your soap ends up smelling like a salad. I don't know about you but I don't want to smell salad when I am showering. So when I tried this soap by Savon de Marseilles and it smelled good. I was over the moon.

This little bar of magic is free of animal fats and all that nasty stuff. In place of that nasty stuff are vegetables, organic palm and coconut oils. Savon de Marseilles soap is also loaded with lavender, which sooths your tired nerves or if you need a jolt try the verbena-scented soap, which will give you a little invigoration.

The packaging is great too. It has nice and contemporary feel, that way no one will be forced to call you a granola-crunching hippie.

Get Irish, quick!

Today, as you probably know, is St. Patrick's Day. This is the day that it's okay to embrace stereotypes and get totally drunk in public- the earlier the better!

There are a lot of ways to show your love for the Irish. While I can't recommend green beer I can definitely drink support numerous pints of Guinness. It's good, and it's good for you. (Don't drink and drive!)

Another way to get in the mood is the classic t-shirt. There are tons of them all over the internet. I decided to share some from Zazzle, a site that lets you create your own custom shirt. Granted, it's too late to order any of these shirts for tonight, but if you really cared about celebrating St. Paddy's you'd be drunk by now and not surfing the web anyway, so the point is moot.

I chose the "Get Drunk with Eliot" shirt because it's timely and possibly offensive, which is something that tends to be appreciated in a bar full of intoxicated people pinching each other. Not that I would know about that sort of thing.

Here are a few others that I thought in/appropriate:
