The world's top earning supermodels

Forbes has just released their annual list of top-earning supermodels in the world. In 2008 a few beauties moved up a few places on the list, while some were knocked off completely. Keep reading to see who made it, and who didn't.

Gisele and Lebron James on the April cover of Vogue?

It's no secret that Anna Wintour loves some tennis, but last night the editor-in-chief sat courtside with her boyfriend Shelby Bryan at the Knicks versus Cavaliers game.

Wearing a casual top, jeans (yes, jeans!), and brown leather riding boots, Wintour was there as a guest of Lebron James -- whom she had dinner with the night before.

And what did the new B.F.F's talk about over their high-protein meals? Fashion, of course! Apparently, Lebron told la Wintour all about his weakness for Ralph Lauren suits and disclosed that he wears a brand-new pair of sneakers before every game.

So, what gives Anna? Why the sudden love for the NBA, its scandalous referees and chiseled-bodied players?

Well, according to the NYPost, Mr. James will be on the April cover with Gisele Bundchen for the annual "shape issue."

In the words of Victoria Beckham, that's "major!" As a fan of both sports and fashion, I couldn't be more excited about this upcoming issue. The accompanying editorial featuring the supermodel and sports icon should be amazing.

Did we miss a chance at seeing Gisele naked?

I didn't really care who won the Super Bowl. I guess it would've been nice to see the Patriots get their perfect season (and anything is better than watching the Giants win), but all in all I was only half-interested.

However that was before I knew what was at stake. Apparently there was a rumor circulating that Gisele Bundchen, the uber-attractive supermodel girlfriend of New England quarterback Tom Brady, would run naked through the street of Time Square if the Patriots had won the game.

Naked! Gisele! In the streets!

Were the Patriots aware of this? How could they have possibly lost the game knowing what was on the line? Or, on the other hand, maybe they did know, and the additional pressure was simply too much to bear -- which led to their unfortunate performance on Sunday.

Truth be told, Gisele's agent is claiming she never made the promise, so it's likely that even if the Pats did pull through, we wouldn't have seen any streaking supermodels. Regardless, this is a sad day -- for New England fans, for Gisele fans, and for fans of public nakedness.

I guess there's always next year.

How to be a (pseudo) Supermodel

how to be a supermodel: gisele, tyra, heidi
This week, I was cruising the Internet as I usually do and found myself reading an article on Forbes. For two reasons, the article fascinated me. One, the article is titled "How to be a Supermodel." Apparently, there is a formula for being a Supermodel. Two, and even more curious is that not only did this article about modeling appear on Forbes, but I had to wonder, "Really? Will someone read this, print it out, and use this as a manual?"

Obviously, we know the answer to that last question. Forbes didn't publish the article because they honestly believe some young girl will come across it and get straight to work on becoming a Supermodel. It's really just a subtly snarky statement about Supermodels, and I have to admit, I love it.

The article and the ten "steps" got me to thinking, and so instead of just giving you the lowdown on how to be a supermodel, your very own Styledash Sarah J. Gim has decided to take Forbes' little nuggets of advice intended for 14-year-old girls who might be "discovered" grinding into a Big Mac at a McDonald's in eastern Europe and turn them into some real advice for real people.

1. Forbes says: "Stop eating. Grow." Sarah says: Being 5'9" and weighing 110 lbs is unnatural. Instead, "dress to stretch." Wear all black in shapes that flatter your figure, and don't ever forget the magic of a 4" stiletto heel in the same color as your hemline, which should be, of course, black.

Brazilian models are taking over the runways

brazilian runway models
What better way to start the Hump Day than with a full-spread post about Brazilian supermodels?

You can thank me later, but let's not miss the real point. Forbes magazine recently ranked the top-earning models in the world and AOL Latin points out that three of the Top Five were Brazilian women. It's hardly surprising, coming from a country that turns out exotic, toned, golden-skinned, vibrant and curvaceous women. Who are they who made the Top Five? Gisele Bündchen, who made "$33 million this year. According to Forbes, her fortune is close to $200 million," Adriana Lima, the "fourth highest paid model in the world, with an estimated income of $6 million," and Alessandra Ambrosio, "a Victoria's Secret model. (Remember that lingerie made entirely with candy?) She follows Lima in the Forbes' list, ranking fifth and earning $6 million last year."

But they're not all. There are quite a few Brazilian models samba-ing down the runways. Aol

So that's why Gisele left Victoria's Secret

Last week we learned that Gisele, the devastatingly attractive supermodel who used to be synonymous with Victoria's Secret, parted ways with the lingerie company.

Today, rumor is that she's now going to be ... a designer. (Just like every other celebrity these days.) Instead of wearing lacy underoos created by someone else, the star is now going to create her own for H&M.

This is still very much a rumor, though Catwalk Queen calls it "a pretty firm one," so by all accounts you can expect to see "Gisele for H&M" sometime soon.

Most of these celebrity lines have been decidedly underwhelming, so I'm not all that interested to see what the model comes up with. That being said, I'm sure there's a number of people around the world who are just excited that she'll still be posing without her clothes on.

Gisele gained some weight

giseleYes, yes, I know, it is big news, right? When a supermodel gains some weight it's big news?

According to Brazilian gossip writer Anderson Antunes of Glamurama, Gisele Bundchen, now in her global model goddess-ness known simply as Gisele, gained 14 pounds in order to participate in Milan Fashion Week, which now has strict guidelines regarding models' weights and BMIs. If you recall, back in September, there was much ado about the nothingness of model's figures in Spain, which banned underweight models from the runways. Milan followed suit with a similar restriction, saying that it was trying to discourage eating disorders.

Are we surprised that Gisele packed on 14 pounds? It sounds like a lot, but not unusual for someone who claims to nosh on red meat and McDonald's burgers.

The furry brow

A few years have passed since we first started seeing thick eyebrows on the runway. It's a little unclear why this change from thin to thick took place. My guess is that it had a lot to do with the major ad campaigns favoring Russian models in their teens over Brazilian models in their early twenties. If you compare the brows of Gisele Bundchen to Natalia Vodianova, you'll see what I mean.

Slowly, this unkempt runway style has trickled its way into the mainstream. Now, more and more, women are throwing away their tweezers to let their brows grow wild.

If your brows haven't quite made it to the gold standard (i.e. Brooke Shields, circa 1982), there are number of a products out there to fatten up your skinny arches. Givenchy, Benefit, Laura Mercier and Shiseido all have great brow enhancers.
