Get Mom out of a style rut with these gifts

Gallery: Accessories for Mom: Get her out of a style rut!

When we were wee little girls, our moms helped us define our sense of style. Sometimes they bought us that fabulous candy necklace we'd been eying at the dime store, once in a while they let us experiment with their makeup, and occasionally they let us pick out our own outfits for school and allowed us to leave the house wearing leg warmers, shorts, and a sweater because it was helping us figure out who we were.

Now is your chance to help Mom out. Is she in a style rut? Often, as women age, they find what works for them and just sort of stick with it. And while you might not be ready to take Mom out for a whole new wardrobe, you can help her update her look with some fab accessories -- click through the gallery for ideas.

Selling the jewels of an ex-boyfriend

We don't gift a lot of jewelry. Never been our thing. If we had, we wouldn't expect it back should a relationship fail (the only exception- family heirlooms). In fact, the only thing that we've ever been upset enough to demand back (and never got) was a Jeff Buckley CD. We're currently on our 8th copy of Grace.

Megahn Perry apparently had this problem. She had an excess of jewelry from ex-boyfriends that she didn't feel comfortable wearing and wanted to get rid of it. Yes, the same jewelry that once meant something and probably cost a young man more money than his fancy was worth.

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: For the party girl

Gifts for the Party Girl
Is there someone on your gift list who is channeling Paris Hilton or maybe even Lindsay Lohan? She is definitely a party girl and needs the proper party girl equipment under her tree this holiday season. You can pick up "party girl" supplies pretty much anywhere -- your local boutique, accessories stores like Claire's, heck you can even go to the liquor store to get gifts.

She likes to party all the time:
The party never stops when you are a party girl. Keep her fueled up and ready to go with a traveling mobile phone/ Blackberry charger or keep her fueled up in a more fun way with a bottle of Viktor & Rolf champagne.

Crash hard, but crash stylishly: When the party is over your party girl is left with a raging hangover, dirty hair and is in desperate need of sleep. You may not be able to stick a greasy bag of In-and-Out Burger under the tree but you can certainly gift her with a sleep mask and some hair refresher from Stila.

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: Beauty gifts for her

Beauty Gifts for Her
Can I tell you a secret? Women of all ages love beauty products. For women, going into Sephora is the equivalent of a 6-year-old going into Toys R Us! Give the lady in your life that same joy by gifting her with one of the many holiday beauty gift sets of there. Skip the ho-hum cliché Bath and Body works sets because no one is getting excited about those. For the same cost you can get her something a lot nicer. Here are a few of my favorites:

Jaqua Butter Cream Frosting Guilt-Free Body Treats Kit: I can't tell you how many times I have stood inside Ulta and sniffed this until I got a nasty look from the store clerks. These products smell delicious. It's like your nose is hanging out inside a bakery. It's a beautiful thing.

Shu Uemura Eye Kit:
Gorgeous eyes are just a squeeze of an eyelash curler, a swipe of the mascara wand and quick draw with an eye pencil.

YSL Palette Pour Les Levres:
Wear your lipstick around your neck with this limited edition lipstick necklace by YSL which was inspired by a piece of jewelry that Mr. Saint Laurent wanted his favorite model to wear during his fashion shows.

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: Luxury Gifts for Ladies

Spoiled Rotten: Luxury Gifts for Her
What do you get the girl who has it all?

If you have money to burn, you're in luck. Break out your American Express Black Card because these gifts are going to set you back more than a pretty penny.

Beautiful stranger: Know a girl who can't get enough beauty products? Does she laugh in the face of bargain brand beauty products? You will shut her up for good when you gift her with these products. For the perfume princess, go with the world's most expensive bottle of perfume, Clive Christian No. 1. If your lady needs her beauty sleep, indulge her with an anti-aging cream that won't result in a slap in the face, La Prairie Jeweled Skin Caviar Luxe Cream. Finally, a no-fail, perfect gift for a beauty fan of any age is the Bobbi Brown Exclusive Pink Quartz Deluxe Trunk which is filled with thousands of dollars worth of beauty goodies.

Arm candy: So you're a troll. So what? You can still give your lady friend some much needed arm candy. If you really want to knock her socks off go with Fendi's 10th Anniversary Baguette, which is covered in beads and gems. Bags not her bag? Then blind her with the bling on this Christian Dior Chronograph watch.

Bundled up:
Baby, it's cold outside (and inside). Get her cold weather gear for inside the house with this classic cashmere robe and for outside the house with this waffle knit cardigan from Burberry.

Just because:
If you have money to burn, then get her the following and she will love you forever (and ever): Cashmere socks, Chanel luxury slipcases, and a 12 month Juicy Couture charm bracelet with the options of charms delivered each month -- it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Guy gift ideas: Try a watch

As I've mentioned before, I'm sure it's not easy to figure out what you man might want for Christmas. If you don't feel like shelling out hundreds of dollars for a Wii, or a new set of state-of-the-art power tools, stick to what you're good at. There's a number of small things he'd never buy for himself that, if taken care of, would make him significantly more stylish (which is great when you need to show him off to friends, colleagues, etc -- right?).

Like a watch, for instance. My guess is he either doesn't wear one, or has some ugly black, rubber, sporty thing that's somehow still ticking away from when he was in high school. Gently encourage him to start dressing like a grown up with one of these classy Timex or Casio watches on Target.com. They're functional, straightforward, and stylish -- but also aren't absurdly expensive.

The best part, is that until December 31st, the watches are 5-15% off. Check it out!

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: For Staying Warm

Oh Baby it's Cold Outside
Baby, it's cold outside.

You know what that means? Cold weather accessories.

We're sure all of you have a basket in the back of the closet packed full of mismatched gloves, scarves and hats. Those things technically keeps you warm but it isn't very stylish is it? Gift yourself or someone else with these stylish accessories.
Cold hands, warm heart: If your fingers can bear it go with a pair of fingerless gloves by Alexander McQueen, the cable knit material is warm and oh-so-chic. If you can't stand the thought of exposing your fingers in chilly temperatures go with these knit gloves by Y-3 (hint, hint they are on sale).

Neck and neck: Scarves of all kinds are in style this winter. Cashmere stripes for a fun and luxurious look, gray rabbit fur for a richer look, bring out your inner ski bunny with Juicy Couture or dare to be different with a cowl neck scarf.

Hothead: What is warmer than fur in the winter? Nothing if you ask me. Protect your ears with hot pink fox fur earmuffs by Chantelle or go full on fur with this lambskin hat by Karl Donoghue.

Boots made for walking: Winter boots don't have to be bulky and ugly, they can be chic instead. For a sportier look go with Juicy Couture. If true couture is your game, then opt for this pair by Dior.

Gifts for the Fashionable Foodie

Stay away from power tools as "guy gifts"

Every Christmas I have no idea what to get my girlfriend, sister, and mother. I'm fairly confident I could wander through the aisles of my local Mega Box Store and, without putting much thought into it, find something my dad or brother would die for -- because if I think it's awesome, chances are they will too.

But the women in my life are always giving each other candles, gift baskets, and other kitsch I'd never think to purchase -- is this what they want from me?

I imagine you ladies are faced with a similar conundrum when it comes to buying gifts for your brother, boyfriend, father, etc. Just because he's a man, does that mean he needs a power tool for Christmas?

Obviously, the answer is no. Rather than fall back on something stereotypical, pick out something he'll use, but probably wouldn't bother to buy for himself -- like a wallet, some nice looking luggage, etc. You know his taste, and (chances are) you have a better eye for what's fashionable, so you'll be able to pick out a stylish item or two that won't end up at Goodwill. Check out this post on Fabsugar for a few idea to get you started.

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: Stylish Stocking Stuffers for Her

Stylish Stocking Stuffers for Her
You know what they say ... 'big things come in small packages' and Christmas stockings are no exception. I know the first thing I go for on Christmas morning is my stocking; it sets the tone for the rest of my present opening experience. Here are some goodies that will be sure to please any fashion fanatic:

Bourjois Kissed From Paris Set:
A girl can never have too many tubes of lip-gloss. But where is a tube of gloss when you need one? This adorable kit from Bourjois has four mini lip-glosses attached to a stylish key ring, so your lip gloss will always be nearby.

Sephora Gift Card:
Gift cards may seem cliché and thoughtless but that is only true when they are for places like Best Buy. A gift card to Sephora gives the gift of beauty, which is pretty much the best gift around.

GoSMILE Peppermint Candy Toothpaste:
Real candy canes are sugary and fattening; get all of that delicious candy taste while getting your teeth sparkling clean.

Victoria Secret Flannel Boxers:
Flannel pants are great for lounging around the house but they aren't ideal for sleeping. These flannel shorts are perfect for sleeping and gifting -- just tie a pretty ribbon around them and stick them in a stocking.

Sephora Travel Brush Set:
A travel brush set is a must-have for every woman; throw them it your purse, gym bag, or desk drawer. This affordable brush set has a faux croc skin case and comes with five miniature brushes.

Lafco NY Luxury Bath Soaps:
These soaps are one of Oprah's favorite things and they are bound to be your recipients' new favorite thing too.

Urban Decay Eye shadow Primer Potion:
This potion keeps your eye shadow in place all day long (it really works too). For only $25 you get two tubes of primer potion ... one for you and one for you recipient.

MAC Viva Glamorous: Do good while looking good with this lip palette from MAC. 100% of the proceeds from MAC's Viva Glam's products goes to the MAC AIDS fund. This a gift that you are the recipient can really feel good about.

A new way to wallet from dbClay

db Clay wallets
I have never been jealous of a man's wallet. Why would I? They are boring, shapeless and plain. However, today I am singing a different tune after getting my hot little hands on a wallet by db clay.

Db clay designs gorgeous wallets that are unique and eco-friendly. The db clay wallet I am swooning over is the Broadway wallet that has an awesome mannequin head pattern on it. I would even dare to say that this wallet is perfect for me; except for one thing ... it's a man's billfold.

When there is a fashion problem, I have a fashionable solution. A man's wallet is actually quite perfect for a woman (especially since the holidays are coming up) because the thin design fits perfecting inside an evening clutch. Just make sure you don't pack it full like you would your everyday wallet; a few $20 dollar bills, your ID and credit card is all you need.

Mr. and Mrs. Towels are more personal wedding gifts

We're in the thick of wedding season, so chances are you've spent the whole summer sitting through ceremony after ceremony, making nice at the receptions and drinking too much champagne -- 'til death do us part, blah blah, whatever.

The hardest part for me, by far, is buying a good wedding present. I know most people register, and that's fine. I don't mind buying you a new toaster oven to celebrate you and your partner's beautiful new life together. But when close friends are tying the knot, I always try and buy them something personal -- something they never would've registered for, but still says I'm happy for them.

However, it's hard to know what to get.

That's what I was pumped to find these Mr. & Mrs. beach towels. I know, I know, they're incredibly tacky -- but they're perfect for the honeymoon, when the bride and groom will be so excited that they're betrothed, that they'll eat up any reference to their new husband and wife status. Plus, as newlywed gear goes, this isn't bad. I like the font, and the towels even come in a more stylish solid black -- instead of that boring blue the company chose for their product photo.

For an additional $14, you can even throw in the newlywed flip-flops, which leave a "just married" imprint in the sand as the happy couple walks along the beach, hand in hand, wondering just what they've got themselves into.

For when love cuts you deep

Now there's a necklace for everyone who understands the pain and suffering of true love!

This Razorblade Necklace is the latest from Elsewares -- those edgy, angsty Brooklyn designers who have a habit of finding the dark side in everything. They say this piece is the perfect replacement for flowers, chocolate or diamonds, and I agree -- in an Emo sort of way. Ah, the danger of love -- the passion! Love is like a rose, with thorns -- thorns that pierce your soul! Etc.

But, joking aside, it's a nice-looking necklace. Plus, the edges have been dulled, so it's not as dangerous as it looks.

So, if you're wallowing in the torturous depths of love (or just like the look), and have $110 to spend on a razorblade, you can buy the necklace here.
