Passport Panties: Discreet emergency equipment for gals on the go

Ladies, we think you'll agree that most of us have encountered a situation in which we could have used a fresh pair of panties handy. Perhaps your monthly visitor came a few days early and you're stuck at work, or you're on a trip and the airline lost your luggage (including clean undies). Or, maybe it's laundry day and your biggest crush asked you out, and you don't feel like having dinner in the granny panties you scrounged up this morning.

Forgot Mother's Day? Think pink...leather that is.

A pink leather motorcycle jacket, is the perfect gift for someone's mom out there, and so fantastic we know you'll be forgiven when it arrives a couple of days late.

Want to make it really special? Pick up the matching chaps in pink or pale pink or supersoft pale pink lambskin. The whole outfit comes in under $300 and will last a lifetime. Or at least seem like it.

Jammin Leather, "the first and largest online leather catalog" has several pink leather items including hats and a lot of stuff with fringe.

Remember, the gift that will bring a tear to her eye is out there, you just have to keep looking. Happy Mother's Day!

T-Shirts for Mom!

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really (and he loves his momma!)

First of all, today is Mother's Day- have you called yours? We'll wait.

Okay, that was a close one. Now back to the matter at hand, the Mother's Day commemorative t-shirt. The good news is that the Internet is full of options for Mom, the bad news is that they are mostly crap. Actually, that's about the way it is for most things on the Internet. It's not personal, Mom. Here are some of the better prints:

Ugly Betty likes trashy bags

If you follow Ugly Betty, you might have noticed Betty carrying around a funky new bag (like the one pictured here) in the "Odor in the Court" episode (also, if you don't watch the show, you really, really need to). The bag wasn't something chosen by the costume designers on set; it was actually a gift to America Ferrera (who plays Betty -- seriously, watch the show!) from Rebagz, and she liked it so much that she decided to wear it on the show.

Aside from being a cool enough bag to be featured on a show about fashion (even if it was carried by the least fashionable character), Rebagz items are all made from things like juice packs and rice sacks -- items that would typically be thrown away, but instead were reused to create a stunning and unusual item.

If the multicolor tote isn't quite your style, don't give up -- Rebagz has a number of bags in different colors and styles, so you're sure to find one that suits your personality.

Too drunk to count? Meet the Beer Tracker

How many times have you found yourself waking up with a pounding headache and a mouth that tastes like cat butt? About 4 or 5 times a week, right? I hear ya. I don't know how many times I have spent a hungover morning trying to retrace my steps to see a) how I spent my entire paycheck, and b) exactly how much I drank. Generally speaking this is where I make empty promises to myself like "I'm never going to drink again. At least no more than 4 beers on any given night."

The problem with such plans, best laid as they are, is that somewhere along the line I tend to forget whether the beer in my hand is number two or number eight three. Math becomes involved and after carrying the one, having a slice of pie and dangling a participle- oh wait, that's my grammar issue, I'm suddenly more beers into the night then I ever intended. It's a trust issue.

That's why I'm just all sorts of tickled about the Beer Tracker. It is yet another in a long line of novelty bottle openers, but unlike the others that I have it doesn't play "Bear Down" or throw out quotes from Homer (the Simpson, not the poet). No, the Beer Tracker counts. It counts every beer that you open on a digital screen right on the handle. Now the only confusion that you could possibly encounter is if you happen to open beers for someone else, in which case it's right back to the drawing board. Of course, you could always carry an extra in case this happens. I suggest the Homer.

Get "Lucky in Bed" with this necklace

You're probably familiar with the tradition of finishing a fortune cookie message with "... in bed." If you haven't done this, you should, because instead of some boring old fortune you get something like, "You are talented in many ways ... in bed." Way more fun, to be sure.

Jewelry designer Jess LC created a "Lucky In Bed" necklace just for those of us whose minds go straight from dessert to the gutter. Well, at least for those of us with minds like that who still want cute, quirky, beautiful accessories to finish off our outfits.

The "Lucky in Bed" necklace combines the lucky Chinese color red with the longstanding tradition of adding "in bed" to the end of any fortune cookie message. They come in gold or silver and come in a small takeout box with a fortune cookie message, and I think you can guess how it ends ...

Either way, it's a great conversation piece, and would make a fantastic gift this Valentine's Day (or anytime, for that matter). When can we not use a good chuckle?

"Lucky in Bed" necklace, $36, available for purchase online here.

Thinking about giving flowers for Valentine's Day? Try Prada instead.

Kristopher Dukes loves these shoes, and so do I. Guys, forget about giving some lame bouquet of roses for Valentine's Day -- if she even bothers to put them in water, they'll still die within a few days. But Prada? Prada is always a gift worth giving.

These Prada Floral Heeled Peep Toe shoes are the perfect combination of sexy and sweet. Sexy is a 4" heel and a little peep toe; sweet is a flower stem and beautiful bloom serving as that sexy 4" heel.

And who says you need to wait around for someone to give these to you as a gift? Get your sexy self a pair and make your own Valentine's dreams come true. Because, really, who's going to resist you strutting your stuff in heels like that?

Prada Floral Heeled Peep Toe, $590.

Bottoms up! Give the Betsey Johnson Stirred Pantini Shaker for Valentine's Day

Trying to decide on a gift for the special lady in your life this Valentine's Day? Should you give her something funny? Sexy? Practical? Why not hit all of the above (sort of) with Betsey Johnson's Stirred Pantini Shaker?

  • Funny -- Okay, you've got panties stuffed inside a martini shaker. There's no way that's not going to bring on a giggle or two.

  • Sexy -- Betsey Johnson isn't going to give you plain old granny panties, that's for sure. Each shaker contains three low-rise thongs embellished with lace trim, a small bow, and rhinestone detail.

  • Practical -- Well, embellished thongs might not be the most practical undies you can find, but put that together with a cool martini shaker, and I think you've given a gift that will be totally useful. Think about it: A martini or two now, pretty panties later ...
Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Smart Ass for your sweetheart

Looking for the perfect gift for you sweetie for Valentine's Day? A flower and a card might not cut it for her -- she's sassy, and sexy, and requires something that takes a little more creativity.

Never fear! As we've mentioned before, the Smart Ass Gals are here to help, with signature thongs designed with you in mind. Got a control freak? A natural blonde? Or a gal with some serious spunkiness? These Signature Thongs make the perfect statement and gift.

Of course, if your valentine is a smart ass to begin with, you could always buy her some SweeTarts candy ...

Last minute gift ideas for dad

Sunday is Father's Day -- do you have your gift yet? If you're like me, the answer is probably no.

It's not that I don't love my dear old dad. The reason I don't have a gift yet is that he's incredibly hard to shop for. He isn't interested in clothes; he's picky about books; he hates television. He does like technology, but only if it involves radio tubes, so modern gadgetry is pretty much out of the question. (And you thought you're dad was hard to shop for!)

For those of you still in the market for last minute gift ideas, here are a few items that I would pick out for my dad if he wasn't, well, my dad.

Façonnable solid linen dress shirt ($155) Poor dad! He has to wear long-sleeves in the middle of the summer, so do what you can to make this less miserable.
The Office Complete Series ($30.49) Don't get me wrong, I love the NBC version, but nothing beats the original BBC show The Office. Trust me, next to Gareth, Dwight Shroud looks normal.
John Grisham's latest book The Innocent Man ($19.11) Say what you will, literati, but John Grisham can tell a great story. The Innocent Man -- his most recent book -- is actually nonfiction. Who knew he had such range? P.S. La Grish lives in my town and he is one good-hearted, philanthropic mofo. I can't help but hope he grows even richer!
L.L. Bean Maine Isle Flip-Flops ($24.95) No one likes mandals, but these flip-flops are possibly the least offensive pair I've seen in a while.
Bike Friday New World Foldable Bike ($875 and up) Give your pops the gift of health disguised as an awesome piece of mechanical engineering. It's perfect for business travelers, since the bike is plane friendly.

Seven Days of Style: Start your gift shopping a day early

gift guidesYou know it's coming. You can't avoid it. Or can you?

I am talking about "it" -- the chaos of crowds, the stress of finding "the perfect gift," and the inevitable spending over budget during the first day of Holiday Shopping hell, and you most certainly can avoid it by shopping online. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that you can't buy online. Heck, if you can afford to buy someone a house for Christmas, you could get that online, too. Though we've already pointed you to some online stores before, here are seven places that have gift guides so you can not only avoid traffic jams, but let someone else provide your gifting inspiration. These will get you started, and of course, keep checking back to Styledash, as we'll have Gift Guides of our own over the next few weeks.

Sunday - Like every other department store that has an online presence, Neiman Marcus got their Holiday gift shopping guides up before we even had Halloween costumes on. However, we have ignored them until now, only because we couldn't bear the thought of Holiday shopping being "so over" by November. Neiman Marcus's guides are luxurious, no doubt, but they're smartly organized by unique recipients.

Monday - Gifts.com is perhaps the most interesting, and accurate way to shop for your friends and family. The site, which is not a store, but a guide, walks you through a series of quick questions in order to narrow down your recipient by gender, age, personality type, and interests, then comes back with a list of suggested gifts.

Tuesday - PersonalShopper.com is another site similar to Gifts.com in that it isn't a store. You select the recipient, and they list the gifts, e.g. For Your Soulmate, For The Perfect Hostess, and For the Sports Nut.

Wednesday - Men.style.com's Holiday Gift Guide isn't filled with gifts for men. It's for men to use as they shop for their girlfriends, wives, sisters, mothers, and others. The main list has 85 items, but there are shorter lists of bargains, as well as "25 Items That Should be on Your List."

Thursday - We definitely like those sites that aren't stores because we don't feel like we're "being sold." ThisNext.com has put together a place for users of its social shopping community to put together their own lists and share them with others. That way, you know the gifts are things that are useful to real people.

Friday - The fairy Godmother of all gifting sties, Red Envelope doesn't have gift guides because it is a gift guide. Enough said.

Saturday - Stylebakery's Gift Guides are a quick hit for the gifting gal. Their lists are broken down into "50 Under $50" (that's one that I like), The Lust List (the one I like even more), and one each For Him and For Babies.

Holiday gifts: cufflinks for the gentleman in your life

cufflinks
They say that women are hard to shop for, but if you ask me, it's the men who are more difficult. The default gift item for a guy of a necktie (unless it totes your iPod) just doesn't seem to be useful --or fun -- at all anymore, and there are only so many argyle sweaters a guy can have. Use the reason why it's easy to shop for women and apply it to men: jewelry! In the case of just-for-men, cuff links are a great accessory, something they can change to match their outfit or their mood. Kristopher Dukes has put together a great list of different kinds of cuff links that match different kinds of guys. For your Wall Street Warrior, try cufflinks made to look like stock quotes. If the man in your life is casino crasher, the spades are perfect. Check them all out on this: Gift Guide: Cufflinks.
