Yoox.com's vintage Dior sale

If you're on green overload and can't bare to hear about another "eco-friendly" this or "%100 organic" that, then take a deep breath and exhale because we kind of need a break from it all, too.

No, this post is about another cool way to get chic and ethical clothing: buying vintage.

Hello Kitty models for John Galliano for Dior

Japanese Vogue is sidesteping the recent controversies over too young or too thin models and going straight to animation.

Reuters reports that the June issue will showcase the popular - and fashionable - Hello Kitty wearing items from the fall and winter John Galliano for Dior line.

Our only question is why did it take this long? Hello Kitty is everywhere!

A machine-washable evening gown, what every woman needs

Last year, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual gala, I got into a huge fight with supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The Brazilian bombshell thought I was trying to make a move on her man, Tom Brady. Things got heated quickly, and the 5'11 stunner hurled red wine in my direction -- completely ruining my vintage Dior couture gown. Upset and embarrassed, I fled back to Texas -- never to return to New York again.

Syke! But if I did get into a fierce catfight like the one I just made up, I hope I'm wearing a beautiful Sara Berman evening gown.

Chichi vs. Simple: Black liquid liner dilemma

My sister swears by this fancy Dior Style Liner and badgered me to try it during a recent visit. The tiny silver pot is delicate and pretty and it made a rich, sooty black line on her. One trip to Sephora and $30 later, I was in the club.

So, 30 bucks for .08 ounces, that must have been some liner gold, right? Well...yes and no.

Shoes of the Day: Miss Dior Beige Patent Peep Toe Pumps

jessica simpson in miss dior peep toe pumps
We've been presenting you with a Dress of the Day here at Styledash, but you can't rock a smart little dress barefoot! Starting now, we'll also bring you a pair of shoes each day, sometimes fun, sometimes, smart, always stylish.

Surprisingly, Jessica Simpson isn't mad about shoes from her own line (and I'm sure I've seen a pair from her line that look exactly like the ones she's wearing), but I wouldn't be either if I got my hands on a pair of Christian Dior Miss Dior peep-toe pumps in nude beige. Nude colored shoes work wonders at creating the illusion of legs that are three miles long, and the platform style adds height overall. The shoes are >$515 at eLuxury.

Shoe porn: Blue suede shoes

V Magazine has a very interesting spread on their site that they are calling Foot Fetish. This spread is basically a bunch of hot babes stuffed inside even hotter pairs of shoes. This was actually the only photo that didn't have a breast or an entire booty showing so I figured I would take this opportunity to talk about an emerging trend, blue shoes.

Christian Louboutin tried his hand at blue shoes (and failed). Where Christian Dior (shoes pictured) has a winner on his hands. No matter what your taste is, (perhaps both of these high fashion shoes are fugly to you) once the top designers get their hands on a trend it is bound to trickle down to the masses.

There is something about a pair of blue shoes that gives you permission to act out. They defy all things conventional when it comes to shoes. A closet can technically go without a pair of blue shoes, yet when you wear them you feel unstoppable and wonder why you didn't get a pair sooner. My fashion crystal ball is telling me that blue shoes will soon replace the 'go-to red shoes' this coming fall. Wear a pair of blue shoes with a boring monocromatic ensemble or really shock them and wear them with a colorful dress that only has a hint of blue.

Underage boy is new face of Versace

The fashion industry is obsessed with youth, which is why it's not uncommon to see girls as young as 14 modeling for Dior, YSL, and other major brands -- but it's not often that the industry uses underage boys.

That's why Tuki Brando, the new face of Versace, is such a surprise. At 16-years-old, the high school student will soon be a fashion icon. While he's certainly no stranger to the fashion world and entertainment industry -- he's the grandson of Marlon Brando, and son of a former model -- he's still really young.

Style blog Fashionista thinks he's an attractive choice, but asks: "...will he entice grown men to buy into the Versace brand?" And they have a point. For better or for worse, youth, femininity, and beauty are often synonymous in women's fashion -- but the same doesn't necessarily hold true for men. I certainly wouldn't be interested in clothing that's trying to make me look like an effeminate teenager, and I'd be surprised if other men didn't feel the same.

Take a test drive for free beauty products

What would you do for free Dior beauty products? How about taking a spin in a new Chrysler Sebring? Chrysler has a new test drive promotion called Awaken Your Senses that gives away a Dior Beauty To Go Kit worth around $75 with a test drive of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible or the 2007 Sebring sedan. If you aren't interested in doing the test drive (not sure why you would turn down a free spin in a convertible) a deals blog has an interesting workaround so that you can get the kit anyway.

Dior rolls the dice for summer

I saw this on Blogdorf Goodman and fell in love. This Dior Dice charm is a special limited edition for summer. The small bronze die has amber crystals on all sides and metallic straps that let you tie it onto your bag or whatever else you like. It's a bit expensive at $55 but the light pink color might be the only gloss you need all summer.

Take flight with Dior's makeup palette

dior take flight paletteIt's vacation time, and you're twirling off to the city of lights. Or the city that never sleeps. Or maybe sin city. Wherever you're going, you're going to need something easy to tote along with you to keep you looking fabulous.

Dior's Dior Flight is a little makeup palette that's perfect for taking on-the-go. The leather-like case has a small tag that looks something like a luggage tag, and holds eyeshadow, blush, and lip gloss, along with brushes to put the stuff on (you wouldn't dare mess up your pretty little finger, now would you?).

Available from Sephora for $55.

Slimane speaks out

Our modern era seems to dictate that when people, no matter how famous, need to speak their mind, they go to the Internet. Like countless celebrity divorces, the Dior Homme/Hedi Slimane break up has hit the Internet. Slimane has put a statement up on his ultra-chic black and white website. In the statement, Slimane, after apologizing for his poor English, does his best to set the record straight about why he left Dior Homme. As has been reported, he is eager to have his own fashion house under his own name and couldn't make that happen with Dior in a way that he found true to his vision. In the letter, he summarizes his past nearly seven years with Dior. At the end he thanks his team, Bernard Arnault, the models, the manufacturers, the musicians he worked with and more in a long scroll that rolls over the screen like credits. A bit dramatic? Oh yes, but that's just one more reason to love Slimane, this man takes fashion very seriously.

Hedi Slimane Out At Dior

Hedi Slimane, the designer famed for his slim male silhouettes for Dior Homme is out at the design house according to WWD. Slimane's iconic slim black suits, the very ones that caused Karl Lagerfeld to ditch the fan and the pounds and become a fingerless glove wearing pencil, weren't enough to save him from the ax? Why?

Rumors are that Slimane is a bit of a diva and his contract went unsigned for nearly a year over long negotiations for a Slimane signature line. Slimane was hesitant to hand over his name, lock, stock and barrel to LVMH. He has been replaced with a former protege, Kris Van Assche. What's next for Hedi? I particularly like the recommendations from Janet Ozzard at New York magazine, she thinks Slimane might launch his own line, rehab another old line or perhaps go low-fashion and do something for H&M. Perhaps he might also take a page from Tom Ford's supersexy notebook and get himself a fragrance deal. Whatever happens, the fashion industry has definitely not heard the last of Mr. Slimane.

Plastic handbags are ridiculously expensive

plastic bagsMonica Corcoran over at Variety's fashion blog, The Stylephile wrote a funny post about plastic bags.

No, not the plastic white or brown shopping bags in which you take your groceries home. She's talking about the new cropof handbags from high end designers that are made of clear plastic. I find nothing wrong with them, and to be quite honest, think they're pretty functional if you carry a lot of stuff (though I don't think I quite have the guts to expose myself). You don't have to go digging around in a giant dark cavern for stuff if you can see everything from the side. However, I do have to agree with Monica that it's pretty ridiculous that a bag made of plastic would cost up to $1,400! Girls, it's plastic.

Of course, I'd rather see someone pay that ridiculous $1,400 for a clear handbag than carry a $1,000 garbage bag!

Dior hits Second Life

One of the reasons I am intrigued by the world of Second Life is the idea of creating an avatar and adorning it in all sorts of fantastical outfits.

The lure of virtual shopping in Second Life has just gotten a little more tempting now that Dior has entered the mix. The venerable fashion house is previewing Victoire de Castellane's Haute Joallerie collection on Second Life. The collection is based on Belladone Island, which is full of animated and dangerous flowers creating a bizarre and hypnotic fantasy world that you can explore while previewing the gems.

Waterproof makeup that doesn't need a trowel to remove

The problem with waterproof makeup is that when it works, it really works. I feel like I go through an inordinate amount of eye-makeup remover when dealing with my preferred waterproof mascara and waterproof eyeliner combo. Plus, my husband gets confused when he has to empty our bathroom trashcan twice a week just to make room for my 157th blackened ball of Kleenex. So, I figured, there has to be a solution.

And of course, Sephora is providing the answer. Sephora.com is featuring a whole arsenal of waterproof makeup products right now, all with the Sephora-guarantee that they will work as desired. Meaning, you can safely cry or run out in the rain without smearing, but at the end of the day you will also be able to revert to your au naturale state, sans-makeup residue.

I have personally tried the Dior DiorShow waterproof mascara and (because I am a lip-plumper addict) the Tarte Rise & Shine Plumping Lip Stain. The mascara was fabulous; wore very well all day without smearing or melting, and actually came off with very little eye-makeup remover. The lip stain, however, did not fare as well. Although I loved the color (I chose cherry), I didn't notice the stain lasting any longer than my lipstick usually does.

I haven't tried any of the other products listed (yet!) but when I do, I will give a full report. If you have any favorite waterproof makeup products, or have tried any of the products listed on the Sephora site, let us know! Maybe we can name an all-time StyleDash waterproof winner.
