Ugly, comfortable shoes are never fashionable, frequently expensive

Last week the Wall Street Journal continued their groundbreaking coverage of shoes.

In this latest installment reporter Christina Binkley did a comparison of several expensive high heels that are purported to be "comfortable."

Comfort is no excuse for mustard-stained sweatpants

Ugly PantsThe most common excuse I hear for wearing atrocities like tracksuits and terribly ill-fitting pants (please see the picture to the right) is "But it's so comfy!" Um, okay. I didn't know comfort was a reason to show up to the supermarket like a velour nightmare. How many times have you stumbled out of bed, gone to the nearby Starbucks with the intention to be in and out within ten minutes, only to bump into a friend (I won't mention if they're super attractive or not) and be immediately consumed with hot embarrassment because you look like you, well, stumbled out of bed? And if that hasn't happened yet, it will, my friend. It will. Looking somewhat decent doesn't take that much work, actually. No one should have to get glammed up to go for a morning coffee run, but no one should be able to confuse you for a homeless person either. Here are some helpful hints on how to not look like a slob without sacrificing your morning.

Ugg lust

crochet ugg bootsI have an interesting relationship with Ugg boots. In 2003 when Uggs made their wild comeback, I stood in line and purchased a pair. At the time, I am not even sure I actually liked them, but they were hot and I wanted to make people jealous. I ended up wearing them everyday that winter: with dresses, with pants, out in the snow, inside watching a movie ... I wore them 24/7. Once the winter ended so did my Ugg boots, I placed them back in their box and shelved them.

Living in LA has stirred the Ugg beast. I wanted to pull them out but I couldn't -- I couldn't be one of "them" could I? Today I was struck by the beast. I pulled out my dusty Ugg box and place my foot inside the sheepskin boots. Oh Uggs, how I missed you and your comfort.

One problem, they were way too big on me. Which got me to thinking ... I need a new pair of Uggs. So as a change of Ugg pace I want to go with the crochet version. They will serve the same purpose as regular pair of Uggs ... they won't necessarily match anything and they will be comfortable.

What do you all think, love them or leave them at the store where they belong?

Comfort Alert: 2B Free

2 b free sweats paris hiltonI am not really into sweats, tracksuits, and the likes but occasionally they are necessary. In my world sweats are only appropriate when it's raining in Los Angeles (which rarely happens), relaxing at home, and shopping (low-end shopping only). Due to my limited circumstances I don't own too many pairs of sweats. In fact the last time I purchased sweat pants was back in 2005 when Juicy Couture was really hot.

Today it was raining in L.A. so I decided to enjoy the drippy weather by going out on a little shopping trip, nothing fancy – just Loehmann's. Every time I stop into Loehmann's for some budget shopping I see tons of sweats by 2B Free. I decided to finally try on a pair and seriously, I have been freed by a pair of sweatpants!

Talk about the most comfortable thing I have put on my body in a long time. I am starting to see why people like to dress in "comfortable" clothing. 2B Free is a Los Angeles based brand who specializes in "rock-n-roll" casual wear that Sarah wrote about back during LA Fashion Week last Spring. 2B Free is a favorite among celebrities like Madonna, Paris Hilton (who walked the runway for the 2BFree show), Nicole Richie, Carmen Electra, and Jessica Simpson.

Prices are kind of steep if you buy at full retail. A pair of sweats on their website is about $150 dollars but if you bargain hunt, like me, you can score a pair for $35. To learn more about 2 B Free click here.

"Wide-leg" not just restricted to jeans

Saint Grace wide leg pantsEveryone enjoys comfort in fashion.

Unfortunately comfort doesn't always look so hot.

Ladies, I have news. The wider silhouette is back and it isn't just in jeans. Although jeans are very comfortable, there are those days where even jeans don't cut it. When you are bloated the last thing you want is a stiff denim waist band digging into you. So what do you do? Reach for those sweatpants or maybe a pair of leggings.

No so fast.

You are better than that. Sweatpants say, "I give up." Leggings scream, "Hey look how bloated I am!" A fashionable solution is here, and very much in style for fall: wide leg knit pants. Pair them with flip flops and a tank for a comfortable weekend look or glam them up with heels and a sexy top.

I am really regretting the fact that I didn't pick up a pair at the Rachel Pally sample sale. They were only $35. The pair pictured by Saint Grace are $86, but I am sure they can be found for less if you look hard enough.

Underwear pops up on Melrose Place

In need of soft undies and T-shirts ? Hanes has opened a pop-up "Comfortique" that will showcase Hanes ComfortSoft intimate apparel. The Hanes Comfortique will be open on Melrose Place in Los Angeles' from April 19 to April 21. Jennifer Love Hewitt was the host for an invite-only 'sneak peek' preview party on April 18. Alas, she won't be hanging around the Comfortique. The pop-up store will include fashion exhibits and complimentary bra fittings as well as showcasing the soft and cozy underthings.

Muumuus for moi?

America has become an ultra-sensitive, politically correct society; we do not like to stereotype any group of people. Then, tell me why, America, do we continue to typecast muumuus as being a fashion essential for full-figured, older women?

I am here to make sure the muumuu gets the respect it deserves.

Muumuus are first-rate when it comes to comfort. Since it hangs loosely, you never have to worry about it being binding or restricting. The fabric is often lightweight and comes in an assortment of bright, vibrant colors. The muumuu is a feminine and stylish alternative to sweats. You can wear a muumuu to the grocery store, and then jump in bed afterwards.

Follow me, my fellow comfort seekers, let's all wear muumuus.

Shown, muumuu by Lavahut. Price: $29
