Givenchy haute couture show was hot!

Haute couture shows used to be only for the eyes of the fashion elite, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, now we're all able to enjoy the glorious fashion that comes down the runway. Givenchy showed their Fall-Winter 2009 Haute Couture collection this week and the clothes were pretty sweet!

On Location: Premiere of "Journey to the Center of the Earth"

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in sunny Los Angeles (on the planet's surface, at least). Then I donned some 3-D goggles and went to the premiere of Journey to the Center of the Earth. The latest Warner Bros. epic held its premiere during the Los Angeles Film Festival's final day.

I had two major challenges to face this time. First, It was early afternoon sun, and every celebrity was looking directly into it. I had the fear that it was going to be another sunglass fashion day. To correct the problem, I decided with the other photogs that we would just shoot them in the corner of the red carpet in some shade with no backdrop or signage. So when the editors look at these pictures they are going to have no idea where I was today.

L.L. Bean: Footwear

L.L. Bean is one of those companies that make a bit of everything. However, don't make the assumption that they are a jack of all trades, master of none, instead consider the full phrase which continues, though ofttimes better than master of one. Thanks, Wikipedia!

L.L. Bean is focused on the outdoors. They make everything from kayaks to baby strollers, tents to sporks. Really. They also have a great line of footwear for the whole family that is as stylish as it is functional. Aesthetics are not sacrificed for performance, or vice versa.

Crazy cravings: $1000 Doc Martens

Leave aside the practical questions about these of white, 10-hole, lace up Doc Martens, like, Where would you wear them? With what? And in what season? Just pause for a moment to admire the ultra-cool impracticality of them.

( Awe-filled silence. Crickets.)

Shoes of the Day: Cesare Paciotti White Rain Boots

cesare paciotti white dagger rain boots
It's almost Spring, which means you can get the very last use out of winter clothes, or forge ahead and wear your new spring things. Of course, you can also try for something right int he middle, like white rain boots.

Cesare Paciotti's White Dagger rain boots are boots, which I always associate with cool weather, but they are bright white, perfect to wear with all the bright new colors for Spring. The boots are rubber on the bottom (where it matters), and jacquard fabric on top, featuring a white leather trim and oduble silver dagger accessory at the opening.

The boots are available from Bluefly for $249.99.

Shoes of the Day: Dasan Rainy Day Foldover Boots

van dasan rain bootsThe weather here in LA, like most of the people who live here, is having a bit of a dual personality moment. It was beautifully sunny and teased us unto Spring yesterday and today, it is cold, gray, and on may way back home, starting to drizzle. It's the kind of day that begs for a pair of rain boots, bright yellow to keep us hopeful.

I never thought I'd ever say I could ever wear a pair of shoes by Vans, but the Dasan Rainy Day Foldover Boots might be an exception. They're not the annoyingly trendy rain boots printed with this, that, and the other that you see everywhere. These are just plain...rain boots, made for rain.

Available from Karmaloop for $65.

What I Wore: Kimono Dress

What I Wore: Kimono Dress by Trashy DivaI almost made this a Dress of the Day post, except lately this is the dress I want to wear everyday. Yep, that's me at right, in my current favorite outfit.

I have to make an effort not to throw this same ensemble on day after day to head off to work. It really is an effort, too, because for some reason I'm totally in love with this look. It's so comfy and easy to wear... one day recently my alarm didn't go off and I woke up half an hour before I had to be at work. I threw this outfit on and my boss said I still looked fab.

Are you as smitten as I am? If so, you're in luck, because I'm going to tell you how to steal my look:

tentacle earrings: OctopusMe
octopus necklace: very similar to this one by dahliasforme
dress: Kimono Dress in navy floral by Trashy Diva
boots: Fluevog (of course!)

Vivienne Westwood's fashionable fairytale

vivienne westwood bootsEither you understand and appreciate the punk rock ways of Vivienne Westwood or you don't. Many people who see her magical mash-ups on the runway just don't get it. Well, shame on them because they are missing out some great fashions.

As I was digging through Vivienne Westwood's latest line of accessories last night I stumbled upon these boots. They immediately reminded me of Disney's Alice and Wonderland. The buckle on these boots (or are they shoes) gives them a whimsical quality to what before could be easily mistaken for some freaked out pair of fetish shoes.

With a pair of white tights and a poufy plaid mini skirt you could be ready for a tea party in Wonderland yourself. To see more shoes by Vivienne Westwood check out her website VivienneWestwood.com.

Shoes of the Day: Moschino Low Heel Boots

moschino low heel bootsAs much as we love the long, lean look we get when we put on a pair of skyhigh-heeled, knee-high boots, we are having a massive crush on low heeled boots for how comfortable and functional they are, especially on a city-focused winter vacation.

Moschino's low-heel boots have a bit of a biker feel with the heavy look of the leather, simple design, and buckle that wraps around the top, but still maintaining a chic-ness. We also like the slightly upturned toe and that it is slightly squared off. A pair of jeans will tuck into these boots nicely; but a simple rocker-inspired minidress won't look bad either.

Available from Bluebee for $608.

Shoes of the Day: Fluevog Hildegard Boot

Fluevog Hildegard BootsEver since I picked up my first pair of Fluevogs last spring, I've become a confirmed addict. To quote my friend Suzie, "There are no other shoes than Fluevogs." Every pair of Fluevogs I own is amazingly comfortable, decidedly well-made and incredibly unique and good looking. My footwear often gets noticed by other devotees: "Are those Fluevogs?" they ask. I nod yes with a knowing smile.

The newest pair of Fluevogs on my must-have lust list are these military inspired knee high leather boots, dubbed the Hildegard. I love the oversized lace up detail, and my favorites are the boots in this rich avocado green leather, though they also come in a more practical black. I think the avocado color would look amazing with a chocolate brown skirt or khaki colored shirt dress.

Available at Fluevog Shoes for $485.

Victoria's Secret makes shockingly ugly boots

Without a doubt, Victoria's Secret makes some of the most popular underwear on the planet. They seem to strike just the right balance between comfort and appearance -- with something for just about every woman, on every occasion.

So it's a little surprising that they would create such an unbelievably hideous pair of boots. For $129, you can own these oddly tall, extremely glitzy, and disturbing tacky creations. I suppose it's up to you to find a good excuse to wear them.

Maybe they'd make a good costume choice for your burlesque routine. Or...

Actually, I can't think of another good use for these. Can you?

J Crew's new take on men's boots

Face it, you need to have a pair of winter boots to get you through these frigid, snow-covered months. However, as I've mentioned before, it can be a challenge to find a pair that doesn't make you look like a dorky ski instructor.

Here's an interesting boot by J Crew -- called the Wrench -- with an extra layer that looks a little like chaps for your feet. But don't be fooled -- that flap isn't just decorative. Most likely you can pull that up to keep your ankles warm on longer walks -- which is great for those of you that see a lot of snow where you live, and are constantly fighting against that frigid rising damp on your pant legs.

At $182, it's not the cheapest pair of footwear you'll ever own, but on the plus side, new looks for men's boots tend to stay in fashion for a few years (at least), so you won't be handing these off to Goodwill any time soon.
