Filed under: Interviews, Kids and Babies

We love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

We'd like you to meet Danielle Hughes, co-founder of Baby Fish Mouth, a line of fashionable wear for budding baby film fans. Inspired by their favorite films, Danielle and her business partner dreamed up kids clothes that offer a unique take on the usual onesies and jumpers.

Ridiculously costly designer baby gifts

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Kids and Babies

What recession? You'd never know the country is in belt tightening mode by looking at the children's departments of upscale stores like Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman Marcus. With designer names and totally impractical materials -- silk? cashmere? for a baby? -- the racks are full of high fashion and high prices.

We suspect that Suri Cruise is somehow to blame. Talk about the child most likely to become Claire, Molly Ringwald's character in The Breakfast Club, who got detention for skipping school to go shopping. Perfectly coiffed and dressed, she has a wardrobe full of Cavalli, Dior and Burberry. And she's just turned two. We can only imagine what she'll be wearing at 16.

Some fancy baby duds for folks with more money than sense, in the gallery.

Why aren't you wearing this? Reese Li 'Lexington' Diaper Bag

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Kids and Babies

Well, if you don't have a baby, the answer to why you're not wearing this bag is pretty obvious. However, if you're a mom (or even if you're not, but you need to carry a lot of stuff around with you), take a look at your diaper bag. Does it have Winnie the Pooh or ABC blocks on it? Because, really, those designs are for your baby, not for you.

L.L. Bean: Footwear

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Shoes, Jeans, Men, Kids and Babies, Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

L.L. Bean is one of those companies that make a bit of everything. However, don't make the assumption that they are a jack of all trades, master of none, instead consider the full phrase which continues, though ofttimes better than master of one. Thanks, Wikipedia!

L.L. Bean is focused on the outdoors. They make everything from kayaks to baby strollers, tents to sporks. Really. They also have a great line of footwear for the whole family that is as stylish as it is functional. Aesthetics are not sacrificed for performance, or vice versa.

BUMP: T-shirts for bellies

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Dads don't get a whole lot of respect. We know this and we feel the pain. We blame Michael Keaton.

That is why our discovery of BUMP was such a surprise. BUMP, in the case of this Australian company, is actually an acronym for Babies Under Manufacturing Process. They carry an array of t-shirts geared towards the belly, be it the blossoming baby bump or the sympathy (and/or beer) filled gut on the dad-to-be.

Kung Fu Pregnant: Angelina Jolie and Jack Black

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Kids and Babies, Get the Look

Angelina Jolie has been making headlines all week. Of course, she is a walking headline every week, and whenever she and Mr. Brad Pitt show themselves the crowds go wild. We feel their pain.

When not comparing baby bumps with costar Jack Black (key player in Twin-Gate), who is also expecting (well, his wife is), she is making the rounds at Cannes to promote their new animated film Kung Fu Panda. Oh, and she is having some fun with the media. Why not?

Gwen's Harajuku Lovers perfume

In the past, Gwen Stefani has credited the very hip Harajuku district in Tokyo, Japan as the inspiration behind her clothing line and two solo albums.

Well, the avant-garde street culture has penetrated the singer's new fragrance line aptly named Harajuku Lovers that is set to drop this September.

The line consists of five scents: The first four are named after Gwen's back-up dancers -- Love, Angel, Music, and Baby -- while the fifth scent "G" represents the leader of this frighteningly cool group.

Nicole Richie: The birth of style

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Skin Care, Celebrities with Style, Polls & Quizzes

Our sister site Stylelist is running a poll today regarding Nicole Richie and which style suits her best- her crazy, single days (left), or her current look, healthy (right). Guess which one I voted for.

I'm not one to knock a person's weight, at least not to their face, but the fashion world lives for that stuff, and let's face it, Nicole Richie was beyond tiny back in the day, like care-package skinny. She was thin by Hollywood standards, which, as we all know, are ridiculous- and hot, but mostly ridiculous.

Indie Designer Interviews: Apple Blossom Prints

Filed under: Interviews, Kids and Babies

I'm a big fan of all of the amazing independent designers out there. In an effort to get inside the mind of the indie designer and find out just what makes all of these creative types tick, I present to you an ongoing segment I call Indie Designer Interviews.

Spring means babies, right? What better way to announce the birth of your new bundle of joy than with a one-of-a-kind custom photo birth announcement? That's just the sort of thing that today's featured designer Jennifer Hickey creates at her company, Apple Blossom Prints.

Tell us a little more about what your company does. Apple Blossom Prints is a photo announcement, card and invitation company specializing in traditional, whimsical and modern photo birth announcements, holiday cards and other photo stationary. My designs capture the innocence of new baby and the whimsy of childhood. All of the designs are all fully customizable and range from the simple and bold to ornate and elegant. At Apple Blossom Prints the design options are as endless as the customer's style, taste and imagination. I create the designs using bright colors, bold prints, a little bit of whimsy and a touch of tradition. I like color combinations to be upbeat and unique. Our photo cards are offered in a variety of printing choices including archival quality photo paper or heavy weight cardstock in glossy, matte or pearl/metallic finishes. Full color back-side printing offers even more design possibilities on cardstock photo cards.

Soon-to-be parents patiently wait 9 long months to see their baby's face. At Apple Blossom Prints, I want baby's introduction to family and friends to be just as memorable and beautiful as the first time they looked into those eyes. Apple Blossom Prints offers playfully simple ways to capture baby's firsts – from the first yawn to the first holiday.

The photo card process: Customers place all orders via the website where they select a design. Customers then submit photos and within 1-2 business days receive a photo card proof. At Apple Blossom Prints no change is too small. The photo card will go through as many revisions as necessary until the perfect design is achieved. Once the proof is approved the order ships with 4-5 business days. At Apple Blossom Prints customer satisfaction is priority and no order is complete until the customer is 100% satisfied the design is perfect.

Hot mama! Hollywood makes pregnancy look good

You already know that a baby bump (and the subsequent baby) seems to be one of the must-have accessories in Hollywood this year. You also probably know that looking fashionable into the third trimester is no easy feat -- however, stars like Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez have managed to look put together throughout their pregnancies.

Aside from the fact that they have a herd of stylists undoubtedly giving them a hand, how do they do it? Let me tell you -- they play up their assets. Whether they have copious amounts of cleavage, killer legs, or just have an amazing glow about them, these lovely ladies played up their pregnancies and looked great doing it. Look through the gallery for tips on how you can dress to the nines all nine months, too.

Bling, bling baby

Aristabrat Bling Pacifiers
Now I am no expert when it comes to babies, heck I don't even really like babies all that much, but I do know that paying $120 for a pacifier is too much. Aren't those things supposed to be like $2.99 for a pack of 3? Well if you have a spoiled rotten baby you will pay $120 for one pacifier, not a pack of 3.

Right now at Shop Intuition you can purchase your baby a Swarovski adorned pacifier by Aristocrat. This fancy teething toy is 100% baby safe -- no crystals were lost even after boiling. Sure, no crystals were lost but I can promise you that after a week the $120 pacifier will be long gone after baby Johnny spits it out.

So I have to ask, would you spend $120 on a teething toy for your little bundle of joy?

Kimora Lee Simmons is sperminated

Filed under: Style in the News

People is reporting that super diva Kimora Lee Simmons is sperminated! An undisclosed source said that Kimora and boyfriend Djimon Hounsou have a wee one on the way. Kimora's rep says, "I have no comment at this time."

In celebrity speak, that's confirmation. What isn't denied is almost always true! And we can only hope that Kimora really does have a bun in the oven. I can not wait to see what kind of maternity wear the divalicious designer will wear. Obviously someone as demanding as Kimora would dress her bump in nothing but the best!

Check out some of Kimora's red carpet looks. She's obviously never been afraid to show a little a lot of skin. Will she decide to tone it down for this pregnancy? Only time will tell.

Celebrity mothers are into c-sections

We've already realized that having a baby is pretty much vital in Hollywood in order to get your name in the papers. Celebrity moms are willing to make that sacrifice, just as long as it doesn't mean tearing down there, if you know what I mean.

Christina Aguilera is the latest A-list mommy to opt for scheduling a c-section birth rather than waiting to find out if an object (ok, baby) the size of a large watermelon would fit through a tunnel the size of a small lemon. In an interview with Hello Magazine she explained the reasons behind her decision, "I didn't want any surprises. Honestly, I didn't want any [vaginal] tearing. I had heard horror stories of women going in and having to have an emergency C-section [anyway]. The hardest part was deciding on his birthday. I wanted to leave it up to fate, but at the same time I was ready to be done early!"

Victoria Beckham was the woman who started the "Too Posh to Push," trend in 1999 when she gave birth to Brooklyn via c-section. Other huge names in the industry that followed in her footsteps were Angelina Jolie who headed to Namibia for her c-section, and Britney Spears who was scared out of vaginal birth after her mom told her how much it hurt. Celebs have been quick to discuss c-sections but there aren't many talking about the bloody horror joys of vaginal birth.

For the rest of us non-celebrity women, we'll most likely have to settle for whatever our insurance will pay for. So in most cases I'm pretty sure vaginal vanity wouldn't justify having a c-section as a medical necessity. But if you're worried about the battle scars that will be left on your vajayjay there's still hope. You could always get a new cosmetic surgery procedure that has been rising in popularity over the last few years -- the vaginal rejuvenation. The first time I ever heard of this operation was on Nip/Tuck when Kimber, an ex-porn star wanted to "freshen up" her lady bits. But this new form of plastic surgery is becoming more and more common place. It's hard for doctors to keep exact stats because the procedure is often performed by gynecologists who don't keep track of how many they do a year, but Dr. David L. Matlock (from Dr. 90210), who invented vaginal rejuvenation, says he has trained at least 140 doctors in dozens of states and at least 20 countries on how to do this operation.

Dr. Matlock calls his procedure "Designer Laser Vaginoplasty." While that sounds like great fun and all, I think females of the world need to draw the line somewhere. Ladies, we have enough on our plates when it comes to looking good. Do we really need to add vagina makeover to our to-do list???
