David Beckham's package sends women into hysterics

Back in December we brought you breaking news of David Beckham's (probably enhanced) Armani underwear ad campaign. Today those bulge-er-iffic images were finally revealed to the public at large -- 70-feet tall and plastered on the side of a building in San Francisco.

Best of all, Beckham was on hand to show off his man meat sign photos of the ads, making his legions of female admirers ever crazier than they were already. To witness the hysteria, plug your ears and play the video above, and to check out the images inducing international female lust, click through to the gallery.

Sure, the ads look great and everything, but honestly people: relax, they're just skivvies.

Bruce Wayne gets an Armani makeover

Nothing but the best will do for Batman, that's for sure. He's got the Batmobile for Pete's sake, and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne lives in complete luxury. And so, it's only fitting that Bruce (played by Christian Bale) will be sporting Giorgio Armani Hand Made-to-Measure throughout the highly anticipated Batman flick, The Dark Knight.

Also fitting is the fact that Armani will be designing for a superhero, seeing as how last May he chaired the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy. Armani acknowledges that this line is the perfect choice for Batman's less rubber-ensconced side, saying, "As a Giorgio Armani Hand Made-to-Measure client, Bruce Wayne is demonstrating his status as a discriminating and sophisticated connoisseur of fine fashion, while also showing he has individual taste."

Armani lets Katie Holmes play

Who needs Project Runway when you've got money? Money trumps all, that's what I always see say. Case in point, the new label given to Katie Holmes, called Katie Holmes for Armani (so original), which marks the first time that such a high-fashion house will produce a line for a non-professional designer. Is that fierce?

The line is inspired by a Miss Suri Cruise and, according to a source, will feature "...things she (Katie) could imagine Suri wearing." Sounds like some expensive diapers.

Katie Holmes for Armani will start next spring with toddler clothes, then it will progress to clothes for older children, then handbags, and so forth and so on. Don't worry, it won't be staged in accordance to Suri's growth, there will be a women's collection in 2010. So far there is no word regarding athletic wear.

Posh Spice styles Jack Nicholson

Jack Nicholson, everyone's favorite old misogynist, got a little makeover recently when he appeared on the cover of Parade magazine. But his new look wasn't crafted by a celebrity stylist -- rather, it was Victoria Beckham who made the actor presentable for the camera.

Posh's efforts as a stylist have turned into a second career as of late. Not only did she do her best with Ellen DeGeneres last month, but she also recently made up Katie Holmes for the cover of Harper's Bazaar.

So how did Mrs. Beckham think Jack would look best? In Armani, of course. Nicholson looks as impressive as ever in his striped suit, white shirt, and bold red tie.

Well done, Posh!

David Beckham's new Armani underwear ads: Could that possibly be real?

Armani's new ads featuring soccer star David Beckham have just been released, and they're none too shabby. Both the designer and the soccer star are pleased with the effort, and I'm sure the campaign will sell lots of skivvies.

But does anything look...enhanced to you? I don't want to question Mr. Beckham's manhood, but let's be honest -- women's figures are manipulated by photo editors all the time, and it looks like he shoved a tennis ball down there. I mean, seriously, that guy has a really squeaky voice for someone who's apparently so well endowed.

Not that it means anything, I'm just sayin'.

Is David stuffing?

David Beckham takes his clothes off for Armani

Attention ladies: who wants to see David Beckham in his underwear?

The thousands of you screaming "ME! YES! I DO!" at your computer screen are in luck, as the soccer star has recently agreed to be photographed in his skivvies. Beckham is the new global face of Emporio Armani underwear, and will be appearing in fashion magazines around the world (naked except for his tighty-whities) starting in January.

For those of you interested in purchasing the new line of underwear, look out for it in Bloomingdale's and Macy's department stores starting in February.

But fair warning: most men think it's creepy (or at least very unsexy) when their partners buy their skivvies for them. So if you want your man to wear Armani, you'll have to convince him to purchase a pair on his own. With any luck, your constant comments about how hot David Beckham is will send your husband or boyfriend into a jealous, Armani-buying rage just in time for the line to hit stores. Problem solved.

Armani opens store in Second Life

Giorgio ArmaniOnly days after learning that Giorgio Armani is going geek chic with some sleek new gadgets for Samsung, today we find out that the world-famous designer is opening a new store -- in the virtual world of Second Life. The new shop will be a replica of Armani's flagship location in Milan, and will be opened by a replica of Armani himself (in the form of an avatar).

Sound like someplace you'd like to shop? You'll have to sign up for Second Life, and create your own virtual character. Residents of the online community can use Linden Dollars (Second Life's currency) to buy Armani outfits for their avatars, or get connected to the fashion maven's new online store if they're interested in purchasing items they can wear in real life (which they'll have to buy with real money).

With all the design wares now available in the Second Life, it won't be long before avatars are more fashionable than their real-life users.

More Armani (RED)

Despite the bad news about the (RED) campaign, the retailers involved aren't giving up yet. The latest is the Emporio Armani Product Red fragrances. Giorgio Armani collaborated with Ghanaian contemporary artist Owusu-Ankomah to create the look for his Product Red collection. The Emporio Armani fragrance duo, called Emporio Red offers the same fragrances as Emporio Armani White, only the external packaging is different. Both bottles feature an interpretation of a pictogram with a bright red representation of "The Wild Child" an illustration of African youth. Giorgio Armani is contributing an average of 40 percent of the gross profit margin from sales of all Emporio Armani (PRODUCT) RED Products directly to the Global Fund.

Beyonce is Armani's newest face

Beyoncé Knowles already wears a lot of Armani and now she'll be wearing his scent too. Beyoncé, who was once the inspiration for Tommy Hilfiger's True Star fragrance will now be the face and voice of Giorgio Armani's next women's fragrance, Emporio Armani Diamonds. The scent will come out this fall and Beyoncé will sing a song for the perfume in addition to appearing in print and TV ads. No word yet on what the scent will smell like.

Cathy Horyn v. Italian fashion

I've mentioned the New York Times fashion blogger Cathy Horyn in a few previous posts here at Styledash. Even though her personal pondering don't interest me in the least, I quite admire the way she drops truth bombs on fashions folks. All told, she's a breath of fresh air among the pandering yes-men and yes-women of fashion journalism.

But not everyone enjoys Horyn's contrarian views as much as I do. Designers Giorgio Armani and Dolce and Gabbana have decided to officially ban Horyn from their fashion shows. In the past, Horyn has said some less than kind things about both fashion houses, which Armani characterized as "idiocy."

Those are strong words from the man with the tan. No one likes their "genius" to be questioned, so I get where the Italians were coming from, but you'd think after all these years in the business Armani and D&G would have a slightly thicker skin.

I'm sure the ban has Horyn's editors worried and the TImes advertising people in a blind panic, but I hope the paper continues to support her. Fashion wouldn't be the same without her.

Inc(red)ible swimwear

People seem quite content to wear Juicy slapped across their behinds but would you wear Incredible over your front regions? Fashion Week Daily reports that Project Red Emporio Armani is expanding the Red campaign. New items include a plan to distribute fragrances and jewelry and new products as swimwear, beach towels, tank tops, Bermuda shorts, and baseball caps. The Red project hasn't been a rousing success so far but perhaps this rather cheeky beachwear will help.

Armani denies rumors that he's selling his fashion group

Giorgio Armani has recently denied rumors that he's planning on selling his fashion group.

According to the designer, "I made a remark to journalists in Italy that was obviously misunderstood." Additionally, he told the German newspaper, Die Welt, that he will "categorically" not sell his company.

Handelsblatt, another German newspaper, reported yesterday that they had interviewed Armani, and he'd told them he was looking for a buyer.

It all seemed very strange -- with the designer set to make a big splash at the Oscars this weekend, I couldn't understand why he'd announce so off-handly that his group would be up for sale. Now we know -- it more or less came out of some journalist's imagination.

Head-to-Toe: Shop purple at Bluefly sale

head to toe purpleToday seems to be the big blowout day for sales at online retailers. Bluefly is offering an additional 20% off their already marked down prices on designer apparel, shoes, and accessories. We headed over to take a peek, and put together an entire outfit - in honor of the man who let's us party every New Year's Eve like it's 1999, purple.

Sunglasses - Designer sunglasses all run up past $200, but these rhinestone logo glasses by Armani are down to $91.99. Thankfully, they also don't go too overboard on size.

Jewelry - Julie Sandlau makes pretty, feminine jewelry. Her Polygon Briolette earrings dangle an interesting gold shape and feature a tiny sparkling smoke grey briolette on 14 kt gold. The earrings were $255 and are now only $81.59.

Dress - Yes, it's sleeveless, and yes, it's short, but that's what sweaters are for. Tufi Duek's button tie-dress is too cute to pass up in a plum grey satin. The dress buttons down the front from a sweetheart neckline into a dropwaisted, full, flirty skirt that has an eyelet hem. The dress was originally $576, on Bluefly for $345, and is now $276.

Fashionable mugs for good causes

Fashion designer Giorgio Armani is just one of the celebs who has created a unique coffee mug to raise money as part of the 21st Century Leaders. The 21CL label is a charity artwork project, which raises money for a variety causes. Mugs by Donna Karan, Armani, Claudia Schiffer, David Bowie and others raise money for Trade plus Aid. Save the Children and other important charities. There are also wristbands, T-shirts and other products available. The goal is to raise a minimum of $3 million over three years. Armani's mug, shown here, is perhaps the sleekest of the bunch depicting the Mandarin character for "hope" against a celadon background. The mugs sells for £9.99 and will be followed by a line of decorative plates sometime next year.

Dress of the Day: Armani Exchange Hooded Sweater Dress

armani exchange hooded sweater dressI am still a little confused about why something called a "dress" has to be worn over jeans or with leggings. Doesn't that make it a long top? The question, I have resigned, will never be answered, so I will not fret over Armani Exchange's Hooded Sweater Dress that looks like a long sweater to me.

The body-hugging dress is made of 100% lambswool. There are snap closure at the neck and a belted waist. The "dress" is short, but if you're bold enough, you can get away with a pair of opaque tights and knee-high boots. In fact, either the Aerosoles Durrific boots or Dr. Scholl's Folklore boots would be perfect, since this is a casual dress that you could wear out running errands.

Armani Exchange's Hooded Sweater Dress is $98 on the Armani Exchange website.
