Love the patent! Nice work, Hindmarch.
Anya Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison made handbags and shoes for Target! And you know what? They look good.

Target is building up an impressive roster of designers. Mizrahi started the craze, and since then, top international designers have been flocking to the big red bullseye of cheap chic. Target has previously featured Stella McCartney, Zac Posen, and Luella Bartley, to name just a few.

Stella McCartney's fur ad

Filed under: Style in the News, Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

Stella McCartney, arguably the world's most recognizable vegan designer, had a rather unpleasant surprise after lending a bra from her collection to a stylist -- the bra was worn by a model wearing a real mink coat in an ad for Hockley.

The ads have since been pulled (after Stella threatened legal action), and a source who works with the designer said, "If Stella knew [the bra] was going to be used by Hockley there is no way she would have lent it... [W]hen Stella saw the picture she was furious. She said, 'It goes against everything I stand for.'"

I want that! Stella McCartney sheath dress

When in the hell did Jackie get so sexy? Just the other day we saw a repeater of that 70's Show (we miss you!) and she was cute but came with frizzy hair and a large, rather annoying voice that made up for her lack in size.

Now there are just no words. Mila Kunis looks absolutely gorgeous in this silver sparkler at the VHA Rock Honors show. And in a land where blondes rule, she sticks out like a sore thumb in a good way... a very good way!

Tip of the day: They call me mellow yellow (and grey)

Filed under: Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

We have seen the yellow and gray combo around for some time now. The sunny hue is completely complimentary of the soft neutral and a perfect pick for those with a cool skin tone. Plus, it's a lot less harsh than its bumblebee side kick, black and yellow.

Try giving some of these mellow yellow looks a whirl.

Elle auctions off designer water bottles for the planet

Filed under: Style in the News, Style for a Cause

Elle magazine has teamed up with eco-crusader Laurie David to auction off some Sigg aluminum water bottles decorated by some of fashion's elite designers. Diane von Furstenberg, Kenneth Cole, Stella McCartney and others have decked out each bottle with their own unique doodles and slogans. They even allowed Donna Karan to participate, even though she hates bunnies.

I don't know what they used to apply their designs, hopefully something that doesn't smear -- since I imagine these things will garner some pretty high prices. The auction is being launched in conjunction with Elle's 3rd annual Green Issue, and the proceeds will go to David's stopglobalwarming.org -- bidding starts on April 17.

Stella McCartney for LeSportsac

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News, Style for a Cause

Stella McCartney for LeSportsac - Bunny Backpack
Stella McCartney has done it again with another fabulous design collaboration, this time with LeSportsac. Her past work has been done with the high fashion label Chloe and also with athletic wear company Adidas.

McCartney is now designing bags for LeSportsac that will be made entirely out of "green" materials, as she always does because she is a die-hard PETA supporter and a vegetarian. All of her "green" bags will be made of non-leather goods and fabrics that are 100% biodegradable.

The adorable Bunny Backpack (pictured) is part of the new collection but if adorable animals aren't for you the collection also has plenty of practical bags as well. With each piece from the collection you can choose from a variety of fabrics to customize the bag, all from the comfort of your laptop.

I may be a woman in my twenties ... late twenties (head hanging in shame) but I really want this bag for myself. But I have a good feeling that these bags will sell fast as they have already been featured in publications like Teen Vogue.

Stella McCartney's new underwear line

Stella McCartney is at it again. The high profile (and highly prolific) designer has come up with a new underwear range -- and, true to her animal-loving, eco-friendly roots, it's organic!

The collection is meant to have a vintage feel, which gives the sultry skivvies a grown-up sex appeal that says "I'm comfortable in my own skin" without saying "I don't care if I ever have sex again." Plus, the frilly, feminine adornments come with cutesy names like "Poppy Posing" and "Eve Giggling." Um, adorable.

Good news is that the new line hits stores on February 1st -- presumably this means that online retailers will be carrying the lingerie as well. For a full list of locations (both online and off), check out the Stella McCartney website.

Celebs at the holidays: Who's hot and who's not?

Filed under: Holiday Style, Celebrities with Style

The holiday season is in full swing, and practically every night is filled with one festive gathering or another -- office parties, house parties, blah blah blah. It's a time of year that presents a particularly difficult challenge for those who are stylishly inclined -- how do you look fun and festive without going overboard? No one wants to be a Scrooge for the sake of fashion, but no one wants to be that guy at the office Christmas gala who wears the blinking, singing, Santa sweater that makes everyone cringe.

If it's any consolation, celebrities have the same problem. There's tons of parties, events, and functions during the month of December, and your favorite actors, models, and designers are all working to find just the right balance of high fashion and holiday cheer.

Are they up to the task? You be the judge. Check out these celebrity holiday looks, and then vote on whether they're hot...or not.

Stella McCartney snubs Heather Mills with 10% discount

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

As you're probably aware, celebrities don't have to buy most of the designer clothes you see them photographed in at parties or on the red carpet -- as designers often ask high profile people to wear their latest creations as way to promote themselves.

So when Stella McCartney told Heather Mills, that she could only get a 10% discount at her London boutique, she might as well of flipped her former stepmom the bird. In response, Michele Elyzabeth, Mills' "worldwide spokesperson" (whatever that means) released a tersley-worded statement to reporters, lashing back at McCartney, and bemoaning this oh-so-horrible injustice.

But seriously, why is this surprising? Mills has been entangled in a seemingly never-ending legal battle with Stella's dad, Paul, repeatedly refusing to settle for anything less than half of his fortune -- a move that's had her labeled as a gold digger in the English press for weeks. In fact, I can't believe Stella offered her former stepmom any discount at all.

Heather Mills is officially crazy.

Stella McCartney hates virtual fur

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News

Stella McCartney, a long-time advocate for animal rights and a staunch opponent of fur in the fashion industry, is taking her cause to the virtual space. But the new anti-fur protest won't be an email campaign, or an online survey, or even a new website -- it will take place in real time, entirely within Second Life.

Starting on July 12th at 7pm, McCartney will launch a PETA island with the virtual world, and Second Life's millions of users will be invited for a week-long party, where they'll be able to buy virtual veggie burgers, listen to a "live" DJ, and hang out with simulated animals.

Guests who attend the protest will be encouraged to submit anti-fur messages -- similar to PETA's "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" mantra -- which will be displayed on the island for all to see. The best ideas will win Stella McCartney prizes, and all purchases made during the protest will support PETA, so if you're an Internet geek who loves animals and is into fashion -- this is your event!

Stella McCartney to collaborate with LeSportsac

Filed under: Handbags, Stores We Love, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing

With their signature lightweight, luxury non-leather handbags, LeSportsac seems the obvious choice for a collaboration with PETA-friendly designer Stella McCartney. And in Spring 2008, consumers will be able to purchase just such a compilation, as McCartney and LeSportsac recently announced plans to produce an entire line of handbags, luggage, and baby accessories.

LeSportsac is well-known and loved for their fun and whimsical tote bags, and McCartney has made a name for herself by combining high-end fashion with globally conscious materials and production standards. Famous for her rigid anti-animal products stance, McCartney's design empire boasts a luxurious range of women's ready-to-wear garments, accessories, eyewear, fragrances, and a collaboration with more moderately priced H&M retailers.

The Stella McCartney for LeSportsac collection will be available for purchase at all LeSportsac stores, high-end department and specialty stores nationwide, the Stella McCartney boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, and London, and (of course) online. Bags will average in price from $200 to $250.

Designer jumpsuits: expensive but awful

Intermix online is currently blowing out all sorts of expensive designer goods at pretty hefty discounts. Certain items like Yacht Club's slinky rayon sweater seem like a good deal while others seem like a last ditch attempt to pawn off some over-priced monstrosity whose high-volume purchase probably cost an Intermix buyer his or her job.

Of the latter, I would like to point out Stella McCartney's sweater knit jumpsuit. Originally priced at $1,165, the sweater jumpsuit has been reduced to $399. (If my math is correct, that's 65% off). Even at $399, you'd have to be fool to pay that much money for a garment that is not only impractical (how do you go to the bathroom in a jumpsuit?) but also truly unflattering!

Even the sales copy seems to know that this jumpsuit is a piece of crap:

"As comfortable as PJs, but much, much more sophisticated...cardigan-style front with five buttons and long, long legs (37" inseam) with 3 1/2" ribbed cuffs so that you can scrunch up the jumpsuit to wear to the length desired...The size 40 is equivalent to a US size 4-6-8ish."

Ah, scrunchable legs and 4-6-8-ish sizing, eh? And how exactly do you make something that fits a size 4 also fit a size 8? Oh wait, now I see:

"All sale purchases are final sale. No exchanges, no returns."

Kate Moss under fire for fur

Filed under: Runway Trends, Celebrities with Style

Kate Moss probably thought that she was sitting pretty. Going from a cocaine scandal last year to being voted Model of the Year by the British Fashion Awards this November, Moss has proved to be a survivor in tough industry.

But Kate's career comeback hardly makes her immune to new controversies. A case in point is the recent attack on Moss by the animal rights group PETA for wearing fur in the latest Burberry advertisements. Protesters have collected outside the Burberry store in New York with picket signs, chants and fake blood. PETA has also launched on-line campaign against Moss and Burberry at bloodyburberry.com, a website featuring graphic images of skinned animals beside models on stylish black and white backgrounds.

The ironic part of all of this is that Moss was once opposed to the use of fur and even agreed to pose for a few high-profile campaigns against animal cruelty. Whatever the reasons for her change of heart, her new found love of fur is not sitting well with animal rights activists or with cruelty-free designers like Stella McCartney.

Kate Moss defends Paul McCartney in court

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Usually, when a news story involves a model and a courtroom, said-model is Naomi Campbell and said-charge is assault and battery. But this time, the courtroom drama involves "she's here, she's there, she's everywhere" Kate Moss and the divorce hearing of Sir Paul McCartney. Just to fill you in on the details, Paul McCartney is seeking a divorce from Heather Mills in what could possibly be the ugliest public divorce in recent history. The split makes Kramer versus Kramer look like child's play. As part of Sir Paul's case, his legal team will roll out a mob of high profile character witnesses, including McCartney's designer daughter, Stella, and the one and only Kate Moss.

Now does putting Kate Moss on your legal defense team seem odd to anyone else? I mean, sure she's famous and super beautiful, but when it comes to being a good judge of character, I have my doubts. I mean, she is marrying Pete Doherty, after all.
