Father's Day Gift Guide: Golf gear

If you have a golf-loving Dad, then you know that something golf-related is guaranteed to get a smile from him. Golf guys eat, sleep, and drink the game. It's an obsession!

One sure way to make his day is to set up a tee time so he can spend some time swinging away on the links. Some new golf gear is always welcome, too!

Golf balls are a perennial hit, because he constantly needs them. If you want to get a little more creative, our gallery of golf gifts will give you ideas for something new to help him celebrate his special day.

Star Wars on the catwalk: $159,000 robot leggings

Since when did catwalk models start dressing like robots from Star Wars? At first glance, this might look like an uber-nerdy sci-fi fashion convention, but the photo is from an honest-to-goodness runway show. Industry big wigs who attended the event called the looks "edgy, aggressive and urban," but I think most normal people can agree this woman looks half hipster, half C-3PO (the whiny British robot from Episodes IV, V and VI who was always scared he was going to die).

Other designs in the collection look like Stormtroopers (the dudes in white outfits who worked for Darth Vader), the Terminator, and the outfits from Tron.

Ever since the rise of blogging, social media, etc, it's been cool to be a nerd -- but this is taking geek chic to a whole new level. May The Force be with you if you try dressing like this in public.

Pug Vader

I know, on more than one occasion I've bemoaned the fact that people like Paris Hilton use dogs as accessories, but that was before I saw this completely awesome dog costume.

I'm not sure if it would look right on any other breed of dog, but if you are a pug owner, you should buy this immediately. Even if you're not a big Star Wars dork (like me), who would walk your dog in this outfit every single day, you can still keep it for special occasions -- like Halloween, or your local Star Wars convention, or...something.

May The Force be with you.

Star Wars inspires Fall fashion

I'll admit it -- I'm a geek. Subsequently, I've seen all the Star Wars films, and my share of science fiction television. But -- nerd or not -- I wouldn't wear clothing based on imagined fashion from far-away galaxies.

However, shockingly enough, that's what's popping up on runways for Fall 2007. Balenciaga, Victor & Rolf and Demma Gvasalia all showed some very space-aged new collections at a recent European fashion show.

Personally, I like the layers, and it's nice to see men's pants moving away from how absurdly tight they've been the last couple years. Plus, I'm glad to see that boots are still "in," as that's always good news for a Texan like myself.

But I just can't get excited about clothes that are so melancholic and dreary. It makes the models look like depressive teenagers -- all dressed up for a fashion-forward Star Trek convention.

StyleFoul: missing Star Wars cloak sells for £54,000

OK, I know Obi-Wan was super cool -- being a Jedi Knight and all -- but is his cloak really worth £54,000 (over $100,000)?

That's what it sold for at a recent film and TV memorabilia auction in London -- more than £14,000 more than its estimated worth.

Other items auctioned for big money made more sense. James Bond items in particular were successful -- and we all know 007 was one well-dressed dude. The dinner jacket Sean Connery wore while playing the famed international man of mystery in Thunderball went for £30,900, while the Navy battle dress jacket worn by Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me sold for £10,880.

Apparently, however, the spy's sensual allure is just no match for a man with mind-control powers and light-saber.

Sigh.
