wardrobe_remix Top Pic(k)s: Trendy Yellow

wardrobe_remix is a Flickr community dedicated to exploring all the amazing everyday looks that people put together to express themselves. Real people, just like you and me. Inspired by the original (official!) weekly wardrobe_remix recap that the group's founder Tricia Royal does on her own blog, bits and bobbins, here are a few of my personal favorite recent additions to the group.

Yesterday Kyle pointed out how yellow is popping up all over the place these days. I couldn't help but think the same thing as I browsed through some of the most recent additions to the wardrobe_remix community. Yellow was appearing absolutely everywhere... in tights and accessories, in shoes and boots, and as big pops of color in dresses and jackets. I love how these bright, sunny splashes of color remind me that warm spring days really are just around the corner.

For ideas on how to integrate one of the season's hottest trends into your own wardrobe, check out the unique styles of regular fashion fans just like you and join in the action at wardrobe_remix.

Five Must-Haves for Spring: Heavy Metal

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes

metallics for spring
I know I'm supposed to list five trends in keeping with my theme this week of Spring trends, but this one deserves an entire post unto itself: metallic. Apparently, designers have gone the way of Midas and everything they touch turns to gold. Or silver. Or bronze. Shiny shiny is the look of the season, and we're looking at how you can add it to your wardrobe in little -- or big -- ways (but we can't guarantee that it won't break the bank).

Handbags - My favorite place to see metallic this spring is the handbag, and we're not just talking about the hardware and adornments. Kooba's Mini Small Satchel comes in both silver (my choice) and bronze. $295 at Neiman Marcus.

It's a mod, mod world

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing

As we look forward to warmer weather and longer days, we can also look forward to the new trends for spring. Of all the hot looks this year, I have to say that my favorite is the Mod look. Blame it on Sienna Miller's new film Factory Girl or the simple adage that what goes around comes around, but this season designers are mad for mod.

Obviously, dressing head (teased hair with wide headband) to toe (leather go-go boots) in mod style will make you look more like an extra from the set of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and less like an up-to-date lady. The key to working the mod look is to incorporate a few pieces into your existing wardrobe.

One of the easiest ways to look like one of Andy's muses is to invest in a pair of large, dark sunglasses with a clean simple shape. Notice that this is not the same thing as Nicole Richie's face obscuring welding goggles -- mod sunglasses are sleek and urbane. Issac Mizrahi for Target's Big Rectangle glasses are exactly what you are looking for.

Of course the mod dress is also a big trend this spring. If you aren't into the idea of wearing a super-short mini dress, by all means, look for a shift dress with a more modest hem. But if you are willing to take the plunge, Diane von Furstenberg's Payne dress will give you the look you want.

For just a splash of 60s style, Lucite jewelry is also quite popular this season. If you aren't in the market for real Lucite, Forever21 sells great jewelry that looks almost exactly like the real thing.

Want longer legs? Get nude pumps

After disappearing for about a decade, the nude pump seems to have returned. The somewhat controversial heel was seen on the Yves Saint Laurent runway for the spring 2007 collection. For many people, nude pumps have been the exclusive domain of the bridge-playing, old biddie set, but the newer versions have a much younger, hipper feel. With stacked heels and rounded toes, these shoes are clearly marketed toward a younger, more fashionable crowd. I don't know about the rest of you people, but I'm really looking forward to buying a pair of nude pumps when they hit the stores in a couple of months. It's a well-known fact that nothing -- not even a great pair of Manolos -- makes your legs look longer than a pair of nude pumps.
