Victoria Beckham to design high-end dresses

Apparently Victoria Beckham is tired of just wearing expensive clothing -- she wants to design it, too. She has already designed a line of jeans (which hasn't actually done too well, in large part because she put very little effort into promoting the line), and now she has decided to try her hand at something with which she's a little more familiar -- upscale dresses.

Posh gives up "singing" for full-time fashion focus

Posh Spice, never what you would call a classically trained vocalist anyway, is giving up singing so she can give all of her attention to her fashion line, dVb.

Oooh, this is a tricky one. Do we comment on her dubious singing abilities in the first place, mentioning the rumors that she was lip-synching on the Spice Girls' recent tour? Or is it more germane to bring up the recent dVb failure in the US, including the ignominy of getting outsold by trampy Heidi Montag?

Paris Hilton becomes an SJP wannabe, steals Posh's thunder

Paris Hilton certainly made an impact in London when she stopped by Selfridges to promote her new fragrance, Can Can. She not only channeled Sarah Jessica Parker by wearing an unusual hat (which, though we're in the minority, we kind of love -- just maybe not on Paris), she also stole the spotlight from Victoria Beckham who had decided to actually take the trouble to promote her denim line down the street at Harrods.

Posh suing Rock & Republic?

Contrary to earlier reports, it seems that Victoria Beckham is warming up to the American way of life faster than we previously thought possible. With her fashion line's sales in the crapper, she's decided to do what any red blooded American would do: find someone else to blame and sue their ass.

Thus far, Posh's only real success with denim has been her pricey signature line that she designed for Rock & Republic in 2004. After a couple of years however, the relationship between Victoria and the premium denim label went bad, and the two parted ways. Now that dVb is hitting the discount stores, it seems that Posh he reconsidered the deal with R&R. According to the Daily News, Beckham Brand Ltd is seeking $100 million in lost earnings.

Marc Jacobs: Victoria is a thumb-sucker

Chalk up another seemingly incomprehensible ad concept for Marc Jacobs and advertising crew. As opposed to the last go-round, where they managed to make Victoria look like some kind of Iggy Pop stunt double, Jacobs' April ad has the former Spice Girl curled up in a fetal position and sucking her thumb.

Why the yellow kitchen gloves? Is that a hygiene thing? Maybe this image is supposed to represent the uncertainty Posh feels about her lagging clothing line, or just life in the States. It's colorful, I give it that.

It's down to two: The Fug Madness Finals are here!

Have you been watching March Madness? Can you believe some of the upsets? We could hardly believe it when #16 seed Courtney Peldon knocked off #1 seed Lindsay Lohan in the first round. And then, Sharon Stone against Posh in the Final Four -- it was almost too much for our little hearts to take.

Are the Beckhams blowing this hotdog stand?

They came, they saw, they got homesick -- but are they about to bail out on the American dream? Rumor has it that the hard knock life here in the States is wearing thin on the high profile couple and they might decide to move back across the pond sooner than anticipated. Clearly, the Beckhams' plans for US domination haven't panned out the way they expected.

For starters -- even though she promises that her men's jeans won't show off guys' junk -- Posh's clothing line dVb
isn't doing so hot. After being expected to bring in about $50M in sales at this point, the line has done a disappointing $15M. That's 70% lower than expected -- ouch! Maybe she should try some crotchless men's jeans, she couldn't do much worse. Reportedly, her tour with the Spice Girls only stirred up more discontent with her yankee lifestyle.

Beck's American experience has also been a bit of downer, since injuries have kept him off the field for all but 5 games last season. I guess it gave him plenty of time to think about why the hell he's playing for the LA Galaxy. Oh yeah, it must the $250M contract. According to PopCrunch, both Posh and Beck are disillusioned and "would much rather be living in the UK."

Posh, your shoes are missing something!

Personally, if I spent four grand on a pair of shoes and, upon receiving them, they were missing a part, I'd be ticked. But that's just practical, boring me. Victoria Beckham, however, actually did this on purpose -- pictured here are the $3600 Antonio Berardi heel-less shoes that now call her overcrowded (and terrifying) closet home.

I mean, isn't this dangerous? The girl is seriously top-heavy to begin with (not even counting her boobs -- her head is like a lollipop!), so who's brilliant idea was it to put her in shoes that don't allow her to put weight on her heels?

Supposedly, the look is meant to be "dainty," like you're constantly walking on your toes. Well, yeah -- that's because you are! Unfortch, Posh doesn't seem to be the only one reeled in by this bad idea. Uma Thurman and Gwyneth Paltrow are also guilty.

Oh, and just in case you're thinking, "They're not that bad -- at least it's something new," I have something to share -- it's not even a new idea! Heel-less shoes have been around for a while, and multiple designers have given the look a shot. There's probably a reason you didn't know that though ... nobody actually wears them. And that's the way it should stay.

The rest of the shoe is cute, though -- she could always glue a pretzel stick (that of course she won't eat) to the back of the shoe if she decides that heel-less heels aren't the way to go, after all.

How to work a cape like Posh, not Superman (or Brooke Shields)

Every year, as spring approaches, my eyes start wandering toward the less bulky items in my closet. I'm tired of my sweaters, done with scarves, and so over jackets. Fortunately, I live in Florida, so there are plenty of days where I can wear a kicky dress and cardi and be plenty warm. But what about those of you living in colder climates? What can be done?

Never fear, Posh is here! In a cape!

As Mrs. Beckham shows us (and as Brooke Shields and Lucy Liu fail to show us), a cape can be a fabulously chic way to ward off the winter chill when you just can't bare to wear your winter coat for another day. However, it can also backfire horribly. Here's how you can pull off Posh's look and keep your cape from becoming fashion kryptonite:

Lauren's Look for Less: Military Spice

posh victoria beckham military lookThis look is a reader's request...

Victoria Beckham has channeled a different kind of "spice" from the rack with this military inspired look. You too can have this look and for less than what "Posh" paid for her sunglasses.

The great thing about this look is that most of the pieces are closet staples, so it's okay to spend a bit more on them. The gray jacket can also be worn with a skirt or dress pants for a work appropriate ensemble. Having a nice pair of darker washed straight washed jeans is something every closet should have as well; wear them with heels, flats, or tuck them into boots and you have three completely different denim looks.

The accessories are the fun part of the outfit but they can also be worked into other outfits. A waist-cinching belt works great with little dresses, jackets, and even tee shirts. Sunglasses are an everyday must-have as they can hide many sins (late night out, lack of mascara). Having a simple black hat can save you from a bad hair day and it can freshen up a boring look.

Beckhams rated "Most Overrated"

Radar magazine recently conducted a reader poll to determine the most overrated people, places and things. When the votes were tallied, the list was topped by none other than David and Victoria Beckham. Writer Mario Musto's explanation was simple: David is overpaid, while Victoria is a "worthless collection of body parts."

Other overrated "winners" in the Radar Top 100 included: cupcakes, Botox, Brad Pitt, blogging, Keira Knightley, pilates, Ronald Reagan, The Dalai Lama, Jake Gyllenhaal and 'Grey's Anatomy.'

My overrated list would have to include Cat Power, Jonathon Safron Foer, memory foam pillows, cowboy boots, 'Desperate Housewives' and designer Gareth Pugh.

What do you think is overrated?

Posh to Join Pussycat Dolls

Question: What do you get when you cross a Spice Girl with a Pussycat Doll?

Answer: Victoria Beckham!

It's true folks, Posh Spice officially threw down some American roots by signing onto a tour with the Pussycat Dolls later this year. According to an Irish entertainment Web Site, the Pussycat Dolls have "been blown away by Victoria since she arrived in LA. They love her style and think she has the perfect figure for the group. They are all huge Spice Girl fans and can't wait to have her on stage with them."

Now before you blow this off as meaningless celebrity fluff, let me draw your attention to the unexpected truth bomb nestled in this unremarkable quote: "she has the perfect figure for the group."

Come on! We all know that Pussycat Dolls aren't selected for their vocal prowess, but can't we at least pretend there is more to the Pussycat Dolls human resource department than a prediction of how someone will look in fishnets and leather bodysuits?

Designer disses Posh

Most designers would give anything for the chance to dress a well-photographed celebrity.

But for designer Christopher Kane, the publicity isn't always worth it.

Victoria Beckham recently asked the British designer if she could borrow a dress from his new collection. Surprisingly, Kane declined the request. Posh being Posh, she decided buy the dress anyway.

When asked why he said "no" to Beckham, Kane explained, "I've got nothing against her, but she's not the woman I imagine wearing my dresses. I think more of women like (French Vogue's Editor-In-Chief) Carine Roitfeld because she's sexy and intelligent. Posh Spice doesn't even get a look-in didn't seem right for his clothes."

So what do you think: should she have bought the dress or just walked away?

Designing women: Katie and Posh

The details so far on this one are a little sketchy, but the textile news website, Fiber2fashion.com reported that best-friends-forever (or at least until Tom decides that Katie should cut off ties from all non-Scientologist friends), Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham are gearing up to start their own line of children's clothing. A source close to the duo told the British Express Daily newspaper: "They are both really excited about this new project. Katie recently sketched out some designs formal party dress for Suri's first birthday and Victoria saw there was the potential there for the two of them to come up with some great designs."

I don't know how you feel about this one, but another Posh vanity-design project turns my stomach upside down. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: why can't celebrities just leave designing to real designers? I mean, it's not like you see Isaac Mizrahi trying to be a Spice Girl. Why, pray tell, does Posh think she can be Isaac Mizrahi?

More Victoria Beckham irony

What's good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander. Or in the case of Victoria Beckham, what's good for her public image isn't necessarily good enough for her.

Are you confused yet? Well, prepare to be even more confused because Victoria Beckham has decided that she will only use healthy-looking models in her premiere denim runway show.

A Posh spokesman said: "Victoria wants to give out a positive image that you don't have to be ultra-skinny to look good. Many of the models on the catwalk make young girls feel insecure about their own bodies."

The moral of the story? If you wanted to be hired by Posh, you better be fatter than she is.
