Vogue: Lebron and Gisele cover controversy
Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style
Who would have thought that just a month after Vogue was patting itself on the back from breaking down racial barriers by inviting Lebron James to be the first black man ever to grace the magazine's cover, the editors at Vogue would be taking fire for being racially insensitive? The cover, as many people pointed out -- including us here at Styledash -- featured the superstars in a pose that reminded us of Jane and Tarzan. Now, I do agree that the cover does kinda suck, but mainly on the grounds of taste. The controversy is not over whether or not the cover looks stupid -- because it definitely does -- but whether the cover perpetuates racial stereotypes by depicting Lebron as a huge hulking beast of a man that resembles King Kong holding Fay Wray captive. Fay Wray in this case would be Gisele.
