Hollywood's most fabulous tanning disasters

While pale, porcelain skin is beautiful, it's hard to ignore the beauty of a bronze glow in the summertime. Who doesn't feel a little bit lovelier with slightly golden, sun-kissed skin? Notice we said slightly -- there's a big difference between being a little bit tan and looking like you've spent every day for the last three weeks baking on Miami Beach.

Christina's baby pics bomb

I don't know why nobody wants to look at People magazine's exclusive photos of Christina Aguilera and her baby. Maybe the thought of Xtina having a baby is just plain disturbing. For whatever reason, the NY Post is reporting that the baby pictures issue is on track to sell a measly 1.3 million copies -- an average issues sells 1.4 million.

It seems like a pretty crappy return on an investment of $1.5 million, but People's Managing Editor said he'd "do the deal again in a minute." Do notice that he said minute -- not a heartbeat -- and a minute is a lot longer than a heartbeat. Still, you'd think that Aguilera w/child pics would be enough to keep sales from dropping.

Oh well, at least People jumped at the chance to exploit a fading pop star -- they really can't be blamed for the poor sales. Maybe Nicole Richie's baby pics will fly off the shelf.

Celebrity mothers are into c-sections

We've already realized that having a baby is pretty much vital in Hollywood in order to get your name in the papers. Celebrity moms are willing to make that sacrifice, just as long as it doesn't mean tearing down there, if you know what I mean.

Christina Aguilera is the latest A-list mommy to opt for scheduling a c-section birth rather than waiting to find out if an object (ok, baby) the size of a large watermelon would fit through a tunnel the size of a small lemon. In an interview with Hello Magazine she explained the reasons behind her decision, "I didn't want any surprises. Honestly, I didn't want any [vaginal] tearing. I had heard horror stories of women going in and having to have an emergency C-section [anyway]. The hardest part was deciding on his birthday. I wanted to leave it up to fate, but at the same time I was ready to be done early!"

Victoria Beckham was the woman who started the "Too Posh to Push," trend in 1999 when she gave birth to Brooklyn via c-section. Other huge names in the industry that followed in her footsteps were Angelina Jolie who headed to Namibia for her c-section, and Britney Spears who was scared out of vaginal birth after her mom told her how much it hurt. Celebs have been quick to discuss c-sections but there aren't many talking about the bloody horror joys of vaginal birth.

For the rest of us non-celebrity women, we'll most likely have to settle for whatever our insurance will pay for. So in most cases I'm pretty sure vaginal vanity wouldn't justify having a c-section as a medical necessity. But if you're worried about the battle scars that will be left on your vajayjay there's still hope. You could always get a new cosmetic surgery procedure that has been rising in popularity over the last few years -- the vaginal rejuvenation. The first time I ever heard of this operation was on Nip/Tuck when Kimber, an ex-porn star wanted to "freshen up" her lady bits. But this new form of plastic surgery is becoming more and more common place. It's hard for doctors to keep exact stats because the procedure is often performed by gynecologists who don't keep track of how many they do a year, but Dr. David L. Matlock (from Dr. 90210), who invented vaginal rejuvenation, says he has trained at least 140 doctors in dozens of states and at least 20 countries on how to do this operation.

Dr. Matlock calls his procedure "Designer Laser Vaginoplasty." While that sounds like great fun and all, I think females of the world need to draw the line somewhere. Ladies, we have enough on our plates when it comes to looking good. Do we really need to add vagina makeover to our to-do list???

Gwen Stefani gets blacklisted

Gwen Stefani blacklisted? After reading countless stories about Britney, Lindsay and other celebrities behaving badly, you start to wonder: doesn't this start to mess with their careers? It's not like they're only acting up when they're out at the club, these people are consistently a pain in the butt to work with, so how is it that we keep seeing them in movies and magazines?

Well, apparently being difficult can get your blacklisted -- but only by some directors. David LaChappelle, for instance, is a photographer/filmmaker who most-recently shot Christina Aguilera's Dirrty video, the indie documentary hit Rize, and H&M's five-minute Romeo and Juliet commercial for their 'Tis the Season to be Gorgeous denim line. He's a talented guy, and his work is super trendy right now, so seemingly everyone is fighting to work him.

However, he won't shoot with everyone.

In fact, LaChapelle keeps a list of people he won't work with -- a list that includes Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Gwen Stefani.

While Stefani admits the famous photographer can be a challenge to work with, she also claims the blacklist is just a rumor. However, she also admits to throwing a couple tantrums during a photo shoot the two did together for No Doubt, so it wouldn't exactly be surprising if LaChapelle had sworn off working with her. They both sound more than a little high-strung.

White jumpsuits are never a good idea

I love me some Christina Aguilera -- girl can sing and lately she has been able to successfully dress herself. Until now ... Maybe it's the rumored pregnancy that has her looking so shabby, but wearing a white jumpsuit is an inexcusable crime of fashion.

If you are hiding a pregnancy or weight gain, whichever it is, you don't go around wearing a white jumpsuit. Don't think I have to review this with all of you, but I will anyhow. White makes you look fat. Boo at me all you want, but the only people that need to wear head-to-toe white are the thin and petite (which Christina was last month).

Giving the outfit the "Tyra experience", which is belting yourself up to hide a tummy, wasn't the right solution either. In this particular outfit, the belt is only drawing attention to the trouble zone and to what looks to me to be some sort of camel toe.

The real kicker in this whole ensemble is the watch. Successful musicians performing on stage don't need to know what time it is! Someone else will tell them or pull them off the stage with a giant red cane.

Christina Aguilera, I hate to do this to you but I have to ... Style Foul!

StyleFoul: Christina's grannie chic

Take a look at this photo and tell me what you see.

I see a slightly blonder version of my old aunt Myrtle using a hand-knitted scarf to protect her from contracting SARS on the way to the prissy dog pet shop located across the swamp.

But that isn't my old aunt Myrtle, readers. it's songstress Christina Aguilera heading off to the airport en route to Canada after spending the week in New York performing and partying like both were going out of style.

I understand that having photographers on your heels must get pretty annoying, but dressing like a hung-over Sophia from Golden Girls on the day after an Amaretto Sour bender is no way to get back at the paparazzi!

Christina, I know you don't want to hear this, but you're hurting no one but yourself when you step outside in a sweatpants and a hair net. What happened to those kicky peep toe shoes and that classic looking trench coat? You were coming oh-so-very close to cleaning yourself up from your erstwhile genie-in-bottle chic, why give up now?

Christina Aguilera tries the fragrance business again

Following hot on the heels of Gwen Stefani and of her old rival Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera has announced that she is putting out a new fragrance. Procter & Gamble Prestige Products will be creating Christina Aguilera fragrances. The exact terms of the deal haven't been revealed yet. She's in good company, other P&G beauty brands include Joy by Jean Patou, Rochas and Escada. It seems like many of the celebs have gone with Coty these days.

A little googling led me to this forum where there appears to be a look at the new scent and a description of it as having peach, jasmine, lily of the valley and white musk notes. It sounds like another hyper-sweet celeb fragrance. I was hoping she'd do something different, that perhaps based on her love of the retro she might go for a chypre along the lines of Chanel No. 5. At least it sounds better than her previous attempt, Xpose, which I have never sniffed but have heard is pretty dreadful.

Note to self: Watch VMAs tonight!

Once again, it's time for MTV's annual Video Music Awards show. This year, the star-studded event will take place in New York City at Radio City Music Hall.

While I don't really want to predict who will win the music awards (okay, I think it's going to be Shakira and Wyclef Jean's "Hips Don't Lie"), I do have a few thoughts on who's going to look great on the red carpet and who will not.

My pick for best-dressed?

Christina Aguilera. It kills me to admit this, but C.A. seems to have dropped the skeeze and miraculously cleaned up her act. Although I'm not loving the platinum blond hair, I totally digging her retro outfits -- the femme shoes, the trench coats, the simple dresses. Hopefully, this is a look that is here to stay.

My pick for worst-dressed?

Tara Reid. I know, it's a cheap shot. But who doesn't love being right?

Now don't let me down girls!
