2. a man that doesn't fit into sizes designed for skinny teens or runway models, nor wants to; enjoys sports

Are you, or do you know, a real guy? If so, you most likely understand the frustration involved in finding stylish pants that fit. Even tougher is finding stylish pants that fit at an affordable price. It ain't easy.

Brian Spaly felt this pain, too. In fact, it bothered him so much that he decided to do something about it. He started making his own pants. He started making his own AWESOME pants.

Brian started to create pants for real guys. He developed a curved waist band to better accommodate the body, "a slight bootcut to flatter the figure, and less fabric in the thighs so they weren't so baggy and boxy."

Other real guys noticed. He started selling the pants out of his trunk to fellow college students and soon had professors investing in his promise. Bonobos was born.

In Mexico there have been 1,400 drug-related deaths this year alone. Obviously that isn't something to be taken, or discussed, lightly. However, it does appear to be a pretty good marketing campaign for Miguel Caballero, a clothing maker from Colombia who recently opened a shop on Avenida Presidente Masaryk, "a high-end shopping thoroughfare in the Polanco neighborhood, one of the most upscale in Mexico City." Edge is an important element of fashion design. But if there's too much edge, garments comes off as immature. Not enough edge, and what's the point?

Cody Ross, 30, designer and founder of Priestess NYC, takes avant garde as a departure point to craft wearable and stylish separates. During a recent visit to Ross' West Village work studio, he showed off s/s '08, his third season of dresses, tops and bottoms for women, aged 16 to 36.

He obviously enjoys kitsch and punk. But, Ross has the restraint of taste to not push those influences too far.

Steampunk is a counter-intuitive sci-fi concept. It's about the future, but set in the past, usually Victorian era England. The technology is pre-digital and steam-powered, but it's also quite modern and computer-driven. Analog computers, that is, that float over cities on dirigibles. See? Confusing. Let's stick to the aesthetics of it.

If you enjoyed the look of City of Lost Children, Van Helsing, Howl's Moving Castle or Lemony Snicket, then you like steampunk. One of the most distinctive visual characteristics is a quasi-Victorian mechanism, with lots of polished brass and clockworks.
