A collective of four friends who design as a group, the collection is all about being clean, wearable and realistic for regular dudes.

Yup, it's a simple formula of updating classic pieces for today's audience. Far from a cliché, the Loden Dager spin is absolutely fresh and approachable.

Loden Dager's presentations over New York Fashion Week have been more like fun parties rather than traditional catwalk events. Now they're taking the formula to Paris with a spring/summer 2009 presentation, July 3-4, with some help from the group's showroom, Opening Ceremony.

Continue reading Loden Dager to show in Paris

Permalink | Email this | Comments

NY Fashion Week is moving?

Filed under: Style in the media, Fashion Week: New York
I know it's hard to believe, but starting in 2010, NY Fashion Week will have to find a new home away from Bryant Park, where it's been since 1993. IMG World, the organizers of Fashion Week, are in a kind of standoff with Bryant Park officials who say the event has come to monopolize the park. Where the tents will end up, nobody knows for sure. There was talk of the festivities moving over to the soon-to-be developed 10th Avenue Rail yards, but it looks like that idea is getting scratched in favor of the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

No -- I'm not making this up. The foremost event in US fashion might one day end up on the roof of a smelly old bus terminal, but there are some upsides -- like having access to the terminal's sweet vending machines. The New York Times office is right across the street too, so I'm sure they'll like that. Right now, the heads of the Port Authority are trying to sell the idea to IMG, the only major problem is that there aren't adequate elevators to get people up to the roof.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Catwalk's calling: Music to strut to

Filed under: Fashion Week: New York

Call me crazy (it won't be the first time) but getting dressed everyday is like giving myself a personal runway show. I change clothes about 80 times before I get the perfect outfit, I walk, I pose, and I blast music. Fashion is my passion people; I may as well have some fun with it.

Here are some great tunes to strut your stuff too, which by the way were all played during New York's Fall Fashion Week.

Arcade Fire: I am totally obsessed with the song 'No Cars Go' -- I am currently playing out now. This song played in more than one runway show during fashion week, so listening to it takes me back to a happy NYC fashion kind of place.

M.I.A: 'Paper Planes' played at at least two runway shows during fashion week. This song is unbelievable catchy and fun to listen to, download it at once you won't regret it.

The Killers: The runways were rocking to 'Shadow Play' during fashion week because let's face it you can never have too much Brandon Flowers.

Massive Attack: The song Karma Coma played right before the Araks show started during fashion week. If you haven't listened to Massive Attack you are seriously missing out; semi-sultry, semi-sexy vibe with unbelievable beats.

The Beatles: A live band played hits from The Beatles during the Rock and Republic show and it was absolutely amazing. Who doesn't lpve fabulous fashions stomping down the runway to The Beatles?

Shocking Blue: 'Hot Sand' was playing during the Mara Hoffman show. The show was so 70's, so chic ... and having this song playing (amongst others) totally added to the 70's vibe.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Trendspotting: Real women wear fur

Filed under: On location, High-end threads, Outerwear, Fashion Week: New York

I noticed something while I was in New York covering Fashion Week -- all of the fabulous women were wearing fur. Seriously, you could tell the rich from the poor just by looking at their coats, although their $800 shoes were pretty revealing too. It made me green with envy. I had never in my life wanted a fur coat but suddenly after being so close to them I started to realize what the big deal was all about.

Fur coats are an instant way to chicify your look but buying new fur can be quite expensive. So for me, the best option for purchasing fur is buying it vintage, which seems much more human anyway (twisted reasoning, sure).

Here are some tips for buying vintage fur:

1.) Buy a modern silhouette- You don't want to look like Cruella de Ville with a tacky fur coat down to your ankles do you? Check out what is "in" for today's furs and try to find a vintage piece to match.

2.) Buy from a reputable vintage shop- If you go to any random shop you might end up with a fur that wasn't cared for properly, which for you would wind up being a waste of money. Good vintage shop owners are particular about the pieces they choose and they only take the best.

3.) Wear it with pride- Don't let any fur haters get you down! It's your coat and you spent your money on it -- those PETA meanies need to mind their own business.
I hate to be cliché and trust me I want to start smacking people around when I hear stuff like this but -- gray is the new black for Fall 2008. MAC's Trend Spot write up during New York Fashion Week declared that purple and gray are the colors to have your eyes this coming Fall.

If you want to capture this trend here are some great products for you:

NARS Single Eye Shadow: NARS makes a great eye shadow, I don't know why I don't use it more. The color always goes on strong and has nice staying power. This color is perfect for Fall 2008 because it's a combination of the two hottest shades for beauty ... gray and purple.

Bare Escentuals Wearable Eye Kit - Meet The Stones This kit by Bare Minerals has all the gray eye shadow that you will ever need. If for some reason these colors don't work for you, try mixing and matching to achieve your perfect shade of gray.

Sephora Brand Enchanted Eye Palette - Plum I am a sucker for an eye palette, you get all you need and more in one neat little package. This palette will be your best friend in Fall 2008 because grays and purples are the "it" thing to have in your make up bag.

When I was in high school I bought a bright blue (I was in high school remember) from Urban Decay and that sucker went on bright! Probably a bit too bright for the way I was applying it but still.

I love glitter. I mean what girl doesn't like the shiny stuff? I have been wearing glitter on my eyes for years and years. I can clearly remember myself as a teen heading off to baby-sit with a fresh coat of glitter on my eyelids only to hear my mother shout "Get that crap off of your eyes, you will scare the kids." Newsflash Mama, kids like glitter too.

Glitter may have never left for me but for the rest of the population it's probably been a while since you have rocked it. This coming Fall has been dubbed by MAC Cosmetics as the "season of the glitter eye." I am sure a lot of you just jumped back in horror with images of disco balls and drag queens but fear not because there are many ways to wear this trend without looking absolutely ridiculous.

Go wild: If you want to go wild with this trend there are some awesome beauty products that you should try out. MAC's glitter eyeliner is a personal favorite of mine and comes in a bunch of fun colors. Another great item to try is glitter mascara; this look should be reserved for evening only and be careful not to rub your eyes too much (glitter in the eyes hurts).

Go subtle: If the thought of glitter has you running scared you can go easy with the trend and try a shimmery eye shadow or apply a little glitter lotion to your legs or chest. NARS body glow lotion smells great and will give you the glitter affect without going overboard.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New Gap, less crappy

Filed under: On the catwalk, Stores, Fashion Week: New York
It's been a really long time since Gap was anything to write home about. After achieving phenomenal success back when Hootie and the Blowfish had fans, the company lost its way -- limping along as a watered-down, cheaper (but not cheap enough) version of JCrew, too expensive to be Target, yet too bland to be worth the money.

But things are looking up. Gap recently hired Patrick Robinson, a new creative director who they hoped would return the brand back to its glory days. And while sales still suck, the clothes are at least looking halfway decent.

Gallery: Gap's new look: Worth the hype?
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/gaps-new-look-worth-the-hype/631801/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/gaps-new-look-worth-the-hype/631800/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/gaps-new-look-worth-the-hype/631799/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/gaps-new-look-worth-the-hype/631797/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/gaps-new-look-worth-the-hype/631796/">

Gap's showing at New York Fashion Week (the first new line under Robinson's guidance) revealed a new direction -- capitalizing on the 90s resurgence, and combining grunge aesthetic (read: flannel shirts) with more modern looking pants and boots. In traditional Gap style, it's all a little safe (fashionable, but not so fashionable that you'd get beat up for it at your suburban high school), but I bet even the discerning fashionista will be able to find an item or two that they'd be willing to include in their regular wardrobe.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: Academy of Arts University

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Fashion Week: New York
What do you get when you take a bunch of art students who can design collections without the nagging question of "will this sell in a store?" What you get is one hell of a show with oodles of creativity.

The Academy of Art University showed off nine collections at Bryant Park on Saturday afternoon for Fashion Week. This was their fourth time showing at the tents. The University President states that "[it is an] opportunity as a part of our commitment to launch the careers of our graduates."

Man, I wish my Universities fashion department had done that for me. Of course once I watched the show I realized that this opportunity wasn't just handed over on silver platter to these students, they worked for it, as their collections were amazing.

Gallery: Academy of Art University
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/academy-of-art-university/625197/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/academy-of-art-university/625187/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/academy-of-art-university/625193/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/academy-of-art-university/625191/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/academy-of-art-university/620621/">

The students showing collections included:

Sherise Eways and Melissa Christensen: Who sent a women's wear collection down the catwalk that was based on the metamorphosis of a women into a bird, butterfly or flower.

Marie Potesta: Marie designed my favorite collection of the bunch. She used bold stripes, geometric shapes and was influenced by origami. This collection blew me away, I wore wear every piece of it.

BoKyung Cha: This collection has massive bows, hot pink, and light gray -- so naturally I loved it. Accessories like fingertip gloves wear added for that extra something special.

Felice Morganti: Felice's collection provided the most gasps with her dreadlock pieces, she used organic wools to create the effect. Her shocking pieces of knitwear were paired with amazing sculpted leather that looked like beautiful honeycombs.

Jee Hyoung: Showcased a women's wear collection with architectual influences and quilted textiles.

Young Jun Ryu: Used M.C. Escher's artwork, geometric shapes, and even cartoon influences (Marvin the Martian) as influences.

Juhee Chung: Designed a collection that was knitted to look like metal work and also worked in a variety of textures using braiding.

Soo Jung Sung and Ivanka Georgiev: Pilot uniforms and Asian influences worked themselves into this creative collection but I think the most creative part was the use of paper. The duo bonded newsprint and brown paper for the base fabric.

Shady N.R. Elias: This menswear designer found influence in a strange place for his collection ... the song Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down). The silhouette was meant to represent the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: Lacoste

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Fashion Week: New York
I always like going into shows like Lacoste because, like Nautica, I really don't know what to expect. I mean of course I know Lacoste, who doesn't? They do have a sweet little alligator for a mascot! However when it comes to them on the runway I just don't know.

With any runway show, this one was getting off to a fashionably late start. To kill time I read the program and call sheet, which is something I usually save until after the show (I am weird like that). The show was to consist of three distinct looks for the "stylish ski slopes" : a contemporary homage to Rene Lacoste, a mountain-high ride to Kingston Jamaica, and finally a ski disco party with leg warmers over jeans. My excitement was starting build, especially over the leg warmers.

When I walked into the tent the first thing I noticed was that the runway was covered in white fur, sheepskin to be exact! Either this was going to be super cool or super funny when models in heels tried to walk across this "animal" of a runway. Fashion roadkill or no, the mood was very fun and cozy -- I liked it.

Gallery: Lacoste Fall 2008
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/lacoste-fall-2008/623563/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/lacoste-fall-2008/623561/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/lacoste-fall-2008/623562/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/lacoste-fall-2008/623560/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/lacoste-fall-2008/623559/">

Not to be totally negative but the program was more exciting than the collection. Not to say that I didn't like the collection because I did, I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. The 1980's touches that normally would have scared me were kind of adorable in the ski setting. The pink, purples, and teal pastels in the disco ski party segment made me think of my younger years sledding in the backyard, which is never a bad thing.

Takeaway trends:
- Varsity style V-neck sweaters
- Wide stripes
- Tapered leg pants
- Colored tights

And as shameful as this is to say -- I will be wearing my leg warmers over my jeans next Fall.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: Rock and Republic

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Fashion Week: New York
Just when I thought Fashion Week couldn't get anymore spectacular out comes a show that was really worth standing in line for -- Rock and Republic. I knew I was in for something special when the line to get in wrapped around Bryant Park. It looked more like people lined up for rock concert than a fashion show and in the end; it was really a bit of both.

After being herded from line to line we were brought into the main tent which had been transformed from what I saw it to be the night before, to an all out event. The main tent looked like a full out concert arena, crazy lights and all. There were streaming spotlights panning across the crowd, a gigantic double runway, and a full musical ensemble in the middle of it all. I knew I was in for something bigger a fashion show, much bigger.

Gallery: Rock and Republic Fall 2008
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/rock-and-republic-fall-2008/623540/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/rock-and-republic-fall-2008/623516/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/rock-and-republic-fall-2008/623515/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/rock-and-republic-fall-2008/623512/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/rock-and-republic-fall-2008/623513/">

The celebrities really came out for this one too. Tyson Beckford was there, so was Nigel Barker, Lydia Hearst, Joss Stone, and Vivica A. Fox. And those were just the ones who walked past me!

The band was playing The Beatles, which to me was totally unexpected but totally cool at the same time. Exactly 65 looks stomped down the runway in a palette of blacks and purples. The collection was sleek, sexy, and screamed 70's glam. Tied in with the whole musical experience the show was pretty much flawless.

Takeaway trends:

- Asymmetrical silhouettes
- Plunging necklines
- Menswear inspired pieces
- Huge collars and enormously cozy turtlenecks

Oh and one more takeaway was sexy models, my goodness those boys looked good!

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: Project Runway's Victorya Hong

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Style in the media, Fashion Week: New York
Those Fashion Week organizers are a sneaky bunch! Yesterday's schedule said "Project Runway Designer" at 8:00pm in the Altman Building. Everyone was speculating it was going to be the Project Runway show but then realized it was going to a be a designer from a past season. But who would it be; Jay, Austin, or maybe Santino?

Those dreams were shattered for me when I realized the designer was Victorya Hong from this season's Project Runway. She wasn't my favorite when she was on the show; she started off with a bang and sizzled until her cut (the denim challenge). With all that in mind I wasn't too thrilled that I took a cab in the rain to see her.

Gallery: Victorya Hong
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/victorya-hong/620419/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/victorya-hong/620416/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/victorya-hong/620692/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/victorya-hong/620691/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/victorya-hong/620689/">

The show had no assigned seating so I sat front row to see the whole mess go down the runway. A mess it was. " Although all of the pieces in her collection called "na-be" incorporated key trends for Fall 2008 like: cut outs, neon, the 80's, and menswear her execution was all wrong. The clothes had poor construction and the styling could have been a lot better. There was clearly a reason why she was kicked off the show but hey, at least the show's swag bag was good!

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lauren's Fashion Week Diary: Timing is Everything

Filed under: On location, Fashion Week: New York

Here is the thing about Fashion Week ... not all of the shows are actually at Bryant Park. There are actually tons of cool shows that are in other discrete locations all around New York City during the week. I was lucky enough to get tipped off to some really cool shows that are off site. Unfortunately when you are a rushed around and insane you often misread important messages that show up on your Blackberry. For example:

Tip-off number one was Three As Four show at the Altman Building at 6:00 on Saturday. Why did my cracked out on coffee and cookies (yes I actually ate a cookie) behind somehow think that was Friday? Or did I think today was actually Saturday? Point is, I am sitting in the Altman Building waiting for a show that isn't going to happen. The show that is going to happen is a secret Project Runway designer. I now know the secret but I am too bitter to tell. You will just have to wait until my post after the show. Ha, take that!

The Project Runway Designer show starts at 8pm (it's 5:30 now) so I am just going to sit here and blog my little heart out while I get an inside look at fashion show production. You see how I am turning a stupid mistake of mine into a learning experience? Yeah, I am cool like that. Who knows I may end up backstage, this could have some insane amazing ending.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lauren's Fashion Week Diary: Opening Ceremony

Filed under: On location, Style in the media, Fashion Week: New York
I know we are already well into the day of runway shows at Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week but let's take it back to 8:00am, before anything really began, shall we? Sure we shall, I am making the rules here.

It was a cold gusty morning in New York City and Bryant Park was buzzing with people, mostly photographers, waiting to see the ribbon get cut, and for the tent doors to fly open. The ribbon ceremony included the cast of the new NBC television program Lipstick Jungle, which airs Feb.7th. I wish I could tell you all beat by beat what happened but the only thing I heard (I certainly couldn't see) was about 100 voices and flash bulbs going off. About five minutes later the event was over and the only thing left was this sad little ribbon.

Gallery: Opening Ceremony
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/opening-ceremony/619342/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/opening-ceremony/619344/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/opening-ceremony/619346/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/opening-ceremony/619348/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/opening-ceremony/619349/">

After everyone got tired of taking photographs of the ribbon, the new challenge was getting inside. They were not opening those doors and we wanted in! Ten long, cold minutes later we were in and were welcomed to a beautiful tent with booths set up with all of our media needs.

IMG, The Heart Truth, Judith Ripka, DHL, Lycra bring the booths at the tent to us this year, and there is even a gorgeous lingerie booth (post to come on that later). The best booth of all, well it's more like a stage, is the American Expresses coverage of the show with Robert Verdi and Roshumba Williams. Throughout the week they will be chatting up the stars and giving American Express cardholders the play-by-play during Fashion Week.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: The Heart Truth

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Designers, Celebrity Style, Do Good, Fashion Week: New York
I know it's a little soon to start picking favorites, but so far The Heart Truth has been my favorite show so far. Perhaps it was the fact that the models were celebrities; I mean it was a refreshing change from typical models ... celebrity models smile, look like they have eaten more than a grape, and they had a great time out there.

The show started out with First Lady Laura Bush giving a speech about the importance of women taking care of their hearts, after all that is what this show was all about. Heart disease is the #1 killer amongst women and getting the word out is key to ending this preventable disease.

Once the serious stuff was over, Laura Bush was whisked off the stage and the show began. The head of the runway was sprinkled with faux paparazzi snapping away that the celebrities who graced the catwalk. Some notable celebs included Sara Ramirez from Grey's Anatomy, Ana Ortiz from Ugly Betty, Lisa Rinna from Dancing with the Stars, Maria Menounos, Liza Minnelli, Molly Sims, and the always-beautiful Heidi Klum.

Gallery: The Heart Truth: Fall 2008
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/the-heart-truth-fall-2008/619045/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/the-heart-truth-fall-2008/619050/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/the-heart-truth-fall-2008/619052/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/the-heart-truth-fall-2008/619055/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/the-heart-truth-fall-2008/619058/">

The energy of the show as unreal! The "models" shimmied, shook, and danced themselves down the runway as the music pumped throughout the main tent. The audience (dressed in red) was also dancing and clapping to show their support.

My favorite parts of the show were Heidi Klum's runway walk, which was filled with kisses and cuteness. Sarah Ramirez had an incredible walk down the catwalk as she strutted her curves with the most confidence that I had ever seen. But the icing on this fabulous cake was Liza! Liza Minnelli floated down the runway in a Halston Original that was sequined to the max. On her walk back, just as we thought the show was over, Liza grabs a microphone and starts singing --

" Start spreading the news ..."

Ah, what is better than New York, New York? Nothing! The crowd went wild, red confetti poured from the ceiling, and all of the model/ celebs came out with hugs and kisses for Liza.

Incredible, I know we are only a few hours in but this has been the best show so far.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: Nautica

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Men, Designers, Fashion Week: New York
At 9:00am in the tents of Bryant Park and Fashion Week has officially begun. The show to kick off the event was Nautica because there is nothing like hot male models to wake up sleepy fashionistas. I think a lot we fashion folk were sleeping because the turn out was relatively low. There were lots of empty seats (thank you Rachel from the Charolette Observer for pulling a no show) and not a lot of celebrities in the audience. Most notable celebs were Nigel Barker from America's Next Top Model and Chris Noth from Sex and the City (hello, Mr. Big).

Nautica certainly did everything in their power to wake us up at 9:00am, that for sure. The show started with music by The Killers, which was so loud it shook the seats and video of sporty boats in the background. The real wake up call was when the lights came on to show a parade of super hotties with perfect bone structure and more perfect bodies.

Gallery: Nautica: Fall 2008
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/nautica-fall-2008/618875/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/nautica-fall-2008/618872/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/nautica-fall-2008/618869/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/nautica-fall-2008/618856/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/nautica-fall-2008/618852/">

But enough about the male hotties (for now) let's get on with the clothes. The color palette was mostly navy, yellow, light gray, and a few browns were thrown in. I have to say I was not a fan of the brown and neither was Chris Noth as he totally made a vomit face as a brown puffer vest went down the runway.

The shapes of the collection really appealed to me. Lots of hoods, including some sweet hooded cable knit sweaters. There were also extra high, extra cozy turtleneck as well as pretty striped scarves to keep warm with this Fall. Some of the duds of the show included velvet tuxedo jackets paired with nylon pants and double-breasted blazers.

My overall rating of the show was a so/so that was until all of models came out topless for the final walk. The moral of this runway tale is that half naked male models make a so/so show perfection!

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New York Fashion Week: Earth Pledge Future Fashion

Filed under: On the catwalk, On location, Designers, Do Good, Fashion Week: New York
Fashion Week hasn't officially started but the runway shows have already begun. Fashionistas, celebrities, models, and designers all gathered at Gotham Hall to be a part of the Earth Pledge Future Fashion show.

The Future Fashion show was a mash-up of 30 different looks from 30 well known designers (Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein, DVF ... just to name a few) who were all supporting the initiative to educate and demonstrate that being "green" can be fashionable too. All of the fashions in the show were made of sustainable materials like organic cotton, organic wool, corn fibers, recycled fabrics, natural dyes, and other eco-friendly goods.

Gallery: Earth Pledge Fashion Show
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/earth-pledge-fashion-show/617786/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/earth-pledge-fashion-show/617789/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/earth-pledge-fashion-show/617788/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/earth-pledge-fashion-show/617769/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/earth-pledge-fashion-show/617756/">

Walking into a show that is all about being "green", I really didn't know what to expect. Would there be a floor covered in hay or some other hideous "granola" decor?

No, no granola in sight.

What I got was a lavish venue that gave these eco-fashions an incredibly posh backdrop. The one piece of "granola" there was the wooden runway, which was very rugged looking, kind of like they just laid a couple of trees on the ground. The rugged look was nice but proved to be dangerous, as nearly every model stumbled on the catwalk.

The crowd wasn't very granola either, it was the standard fashion crowd --- air kisses and all. There weren't as many celebrities as I had hoped for but a few of my favorites did make an appearance including Nigel Barker from America's Next Top Model, Jack from Project Runway, and Lauren Bush.

And we can't forget about the clothes ... it was a fashion show after all. The clothes were great; it was nice how even though it was a mash-up of 30 different designers the clothing all flowed together in harmony. There were lots of whites and beiges (un dyed materials) and interesting design treatments to the fabrics like huge bows and ruffles.

Once the show wrapped Pure & Natural (one of the shows sponsors) passed out goody bags filled with eco-friendly bath products, scented candles, and a CD from the show. After a long fashion filled day like today a hot eco-friendly bath sounds just about right.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lauren's Fashion Week Diary: Meeting Betsey Johnson

Filed under: Designers, Fashion Week: New York
Anyone who knows me (in real life or on the web) knows that I love Betsey Johnson. It's not just love thing, it's a full on obsession. I have been wearing Betsey Johnson clothes for years; I even worked at two of her boutiques. I am a Betsey girl for life so you can imagine my surprise when I saw her in my hotel lobby.

I saw her from behind and had no idea it was Betsey, I just thought it was a blond woman wearing Betsey Johnson. As soon as this woman turned around my jaw hit the floor. OMG! It's Betsey Johnson. I attempted to keep my cool and decided to walk up to her to say hello. Let's just say I wasn't at my coolest but once she gave me a huge hug the ice was broken and I was fine.

We talked for a good 15 minutes. She gushed over my coat (it was one of hers) and kept asking herself why she didn't keep one of those for herself. She talked about her daughter and the love of her life her granddaughter and she talked about her endless love affair with New York City (really, what can be better than New York?)

Meeting Betsey Johnson literally made my trip. I could have turned around and gone back to L.A. a happy girl but I think I will stay to see what other fashion miracles the universe has in store for me.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lauren's Fashion Week Diary: Bryant Park

Filed under: Fashion Week: New York
I knew that since simply writing the words "Bryant Park" in my planner had given me such a rush, that actually going there would be insane!

I had the cab driver drop me off at Bryant Park this afternoon so I could pick up my fancy media credentials before the chaos of Fashion Week actually began. I stepped out the dirty yellow cab, looked up, took a deep breath, and said to myself "I have arrived."

There were tons of big strong men that knew nothing about fashion setting stages and moving furniture to prepare New York for the fashion event of all fashion events -- Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

The energy in the park was unreal; thinking about all of the fashionable people who had set foot on those grounds, all the fashion history that had been made there, and all of the fun I was about to have in just a few short hours.

Gallery: Bryant Park
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/bryant-park/617382/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/bryant-park/617304/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/bryant-park/617276/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/bryant-park/617307/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/bryant-park/617329/">

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lauren's Fashion Week Diary: Flights of Fashion

Filed under: Fashion Week: New York
All aboard the fashion express! The day has come and it's time to leave sunny California for the Big Apple. The reality is starting to set in; I am going to New York Fashion Week. Going to the "tents" has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and when you are a wide eyed fashionista like myself, everything about this trip is like magic.

The magic began this morning when I set my Emu boot clad foot onto the airport shuttle. What is so magical about an airport shuttle you may ask yourself? When the music playing on the shuttle is the same music that was playing during Marc Jacobs' last runway show, yeah it's pretty magical.

After the shuttle, came the dreaded airport security checkpoint but I was walking on air; even the jerks at airport security couldn't get me down. A very unfashionable security agent stopped me and said "Ma'am what is that around your neck? I need to you to step aside." Clearly she had never seen a tassel necklace before, I explained to her that it was a key accessory to my outfit. She didn't care; my necklace was confiscated, checked, and then returned to me. I wanted to hand her a Vogue and tell her to read up but instead I waltzed my happy ass over to Starbucks for a soy 'skinny' latte for some much needed caffeine.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
