To which we would reply, it depends where it's going. Are we talking business casual? Then, after we were all done laughing and things started to turn a little awkward we'd add, we're not talking about real goats, dummy.
No, we aren't. We're talking about Goats the comic strip by Jonathan Rosenberg and the subsequent line of t-shirts that it spawned.

Gallery: Goats T-shirts
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/goats-t-shirts/876866/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/goats-t-shirts/876865/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/goats-t-shirts/876864/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/goats-t-shirts/876863/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/goats-t-shirts/876862/">

Continue reading Dress like Goats, it's fun!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Sex and the City, The Movie: The book review

You might be curious as to why the Sex and the City movie needs a book. It's as much about the fashions as it is about the plot, so what's there to read, right? Well, let us tell you -- a lot.

We received a copy of Sex and the City: The Movie from our friends at Harper Collins, who warned us that the book gives away the plot, so to be sure to see the movie first. This was totally true, so consider yourself warned.

Continue reading Sex and the City, The Movie: The book review

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Kid shows and adult clothes

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the media, Casual wear, Men, Tops, Books

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. can be sustainably stylish. Here are the must-haves:

1. The reusable bag. It doesn't have to be Anya Hindmarch's bag you see at right (which we've all seen about enough of, frankly), but re-usable bags are eco-friendly and can say a lot about you. You read? Get one at a bookstore. In fact, you probably already have one. They're called tote bags. Use them when you go to the farmer's market (or the drug store) and feel good about yourself.

Gallery: Sustainable Style Must-Haves
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/sustainable-style-must-haves/762692/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/sustainable-style-must-haves/762691/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/sustainable-style-must-haves/762689/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/sustainable-style-must-haves/762688/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/sustainable-style-must-haves/762690/">

Read | Read | Read | Read | Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Technics Vs.
We only have one bathroom in our house. Luckily, I work from home and seldom shower so our time conflicts are held to a minimum. Of course, even if I wanted to spend a moment in the bathroom I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. My two small boys see to that. The idea of having quality time in there is just a dream in our house, something that only happens in songs and movies. What songs? How about Rubber Ducky? See, I know what I'm talking about.

That is why I was so excited when I saw this Biblio tub from Antonio Lupi which features a beautiful rectangular tub with clean lines and lots of space (length, I'm 6'3) built into a bookcase frame. How sweet is that?

It's amazing what you can get for $17,000 these days. A library for the bathtub. It's too rich for my pocket, but not for my dreams.

Gallery: Antonio Lupi Biblio Tub
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/antonio-lupi-biblio-tub/723052/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/antonio-lupi-biblio-tub/723051/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/antonio-lupi-biblio-tub/723050/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/antonio-lupi-biblio-tub/723049/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/antonio-lupi-biblio-tub/723046/">

[via Scanner]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Comic book nerd designs for DKNY

Filed under: Designers, Celebrity Style, Books
Famous cartoon artist and now fashion designer Paul Pope is launching a project for DKNY Jeans, and it doesn't involve capes or spandex. The 'hip' comic book artist -- you probably thought there weren't any -- got the call from DKNY to basically 'find a new way to do camo,' -- so that's what he did. Using natural objects like insect wings, Pope was able to come up with some really wild-looking designs.

The collection -- 2089 -- is a concoction of Paul's impression of the future, a collision of the natural world and technology playing out on graphic tees and hoodies. The year 2089 was chosen because it's 100 years after DKNY was created. The story underlying all the work has something to do with a futuristic love story of some kind. Sounds kinda cool, but I doubt anyone outside the comic book world cares.

Pope owes most of his celebrity for working with Marvel and DC Comics and especially for his work on Batman: Year 100. Other comic book artists have praised his work for its aggressive style and bold, inky lines. Frank Miller calls his style "brilliantly sloppy." Unlike the typical comic-artist stereotype, Pope is the rockstar of the nerd world and gets invited to work on lots of projects outside of spandex unitards. Last year, Paul designed the screen prints for Diesel's store windows in LA.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Hey Paris, nice monk

Filed under: Videos, Celebrity Style, Books
Superstars are always looking for cutting edge fashion accessories. Something that really sums them up as a person and shows the public what they're all about. So what's Paris Hilton's choice for this week? Why, it's a Buddhist monk, of course. The duo spent some time together in the spiritual book store, searching for some reading material to help Paris achieve enlightenment. They purchased a book called The Path to the Painted Shaman, and then the 'monk' convince Paris to give away a huge diamond necklace that she was wearing to a stranger. Ridiculous.

Gallery: Paris Hilton
<a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/paris-hilton-1/470609/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/paris-hilton-1/470608/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/paris-hilton-1/470607/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/paris-hilton-1/470606/"><a href="http://"www.styledash.com"/photos/paris-hilton-1/470605/">

I sort of felt like she had intruded on sacred ground, defiling a bookstore that's frequented by honest, soul-searching Americans. Then, I found out that the 'guru' that she had in tow was actually a Hollywood actor by the name of Maxie Santillan. What's worse is that they can showcase your ignorance of literature and suggest political tolerance. That's a lot of pressure on casual Friday.

That is where the folks at The Affair come in. These guys aren't throwing hearts and rainbows on their gear, they're dropping knowledge, much of which is directly influenced by a collection of classic novels with dystopian themes. They aren't screen printing sunshine, folks.

Take the MiniLuv (pictured). If you bought this shirt at some novelty shop it would most likely include an arrow pointing downward, but not here. This is a reference to George Orwell's Big Brother and the Ministry of Love where Winston was tortured and made to embrace "Big Brother." The site is quick to point out that they are not talking about the TV show. Besides, Winston was more of a "Survivor" fan.

The tagline reads "Wear your highbrow literary tastes with pride." If you're looking for John Grisham quotes you'll have to take it elsewhere.

I don't care how bleak the message, anyone that combines fashion and literature is okay in my book, and my closet.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Reading is Fashionable: Sephora hits the books

Filed under: Cosmetics, Skin Care, Books

If you are a girl, with a face, you should know a thing or two about Sephora. In case you don't know (freak) Sephora does for beauty what Toys R Us does for toys -- and makes shopping for beauty products the most magical experience on earth.

For the first time Sephora is bringing that beauty magic to bookshelves with 'The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority.' According to the publisher, this book is all you need to be "knockout- gorgeous." I haven't read the book (it isn't out yet) but I totally buy it.

This book will teach you how to master the smoky eye, get red carpet worthy hair, and will even show you how to eat your way to beauty. The part I am looking forward to the most is the shopping guide to all of the best products and the how-to guide for beauty tools. I go into Sephora almost weekly and there are new products every time so I am dying to know what they consider to be the best.

'The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority' will be available on 4/15 but you can pre-order it on Harpers Collins today for $27.95.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Reading is Fashionable: That Extra Half an Inch

You aren't considered a fashion icon unless you have your own clothing line, television show and book.

We can definitely put Victoria Beckham on the fashion icon list because she has all three.

I picked up Victoria's book That Extra Half an Inch about a month ago but finally had a chance to sit down and read it on my flight to the east coast over the holiday break. I didn't know what to expect when I opened the book but in the end I really enjoyed it.

What you can expect:

How to shop for and wear everyday staples like jeans

Learn how to dress for special occasions

Where to buy stylish fashions on a superstar and regular person budget.

And much, much more

The book was written in a very casual tone, you almost feel like Vicky B is your friend. It's a fun and easy book that you can read cover to cover or simply flip through for quick fashion advice. There are beautiful photographs, illustrations and even pages for notes.

All in all, That Extra Half Inch is a great buy for you or a fashionable friend.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: Fashionable Books

Filed under: Holidays, Books, Holiday Gift Guide

Nothing says winter like getting into your pajamas, sipping a cup of hot chocolate and curling up with a good book. Now fashion books are hotter than ever and there is a surplus of great reads out there. The Black Dress by Valerie Steele is great for those who want to look at pretty dresses and read quick and interesting quotes - no heavy reading required for this book.

This book starts off with an essay written by Valerie Steele, who is the Director of Chief Curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (which is fabulous if you haven't been). The book then continues with glossy photos of famously fashionable black dresses in history accompanied by fun quotes like this one:

"For her fifth wedding, the bride wore black and carried a scotch and soda" - Phyllis Battelle on Heiress Barbara Hutton.

For those who want a bit more meat, the end of the book has more detailed blurbs about each photographed dress and its place in history.

The book was nice; it was like flipping through a special edition magazine about black dresses. I would have loved to see more pictures as the book is pretty short but for small price tag I certainly got my moneys worth. The book is listed at $19.95 but is selling for a little over $13 at Amazon.com.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Reading is Fashionable: The Handbag, an Illustrated History

Filed under: Bags and Purses, Accessories, Books

Don't judge a book by its cover because the cover on this book isn't winning any second glances. Sure the Dior bag on the cover is fabulous however the model desperately needs to book a visit at the nail salon.

Enough with the negative because once you get past the scary cover The Handbag: An Illustrated History is great a great read. The book takes you from the birth of the handbag to today - where the handbag is more important than ever.

The coffee table sized hardcover book has plenty of glossy pictures of handbags from the nineteenth century, which are no more than a pocket with a handle on them, to the 1960's youthquake with its vinyl bags worn my Twigger and Edie Sedgwick. This book not only walks us through each decade, it also bridges them together into a fashionable evolution.

The price of this book is completely reasonable at $35.00 ($23 if you buy it on Amazon.com) and would make an excellent gift for the girl who covets the "it" bag.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Haute Holiday Gift Guide: For the Fashionable Foodie

Filed under: Holidays, Bags and Purses, Haute Home, Fashionable Food, Accessories, Jewelry, Shoes, Coiffure, Cosmetics, Fragrance, Skin Care, Soaps & Salves, Books, Holiday Gift Guide

Stylists: The Interpreters of Fashion is by far the most gorgeous fashion book I have read in a long time. This oversized coffee table book introduces you to perhaps the most influential individuals in the fashion industry, the stylists.

It may be surprising to some, but stylists do much more than put together pretty outfits. Stylists often cast the models, hire hair-and-makeup professionals, assist the designers, and help build photo shoots.

This book is beautifully illustrated with loads of glossy photographs displaying the stylists' best work. My favorite bio and photo spread was about stylist Andrea Lieberman who has styled Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez (she put her in her famous plunging Grammy gown), and many more of music's finest.

Stylists: The Interpreters of Fashion retails at $75.00 and is worth every penny but if you head to Amazon.com you can score it for much cheaper. Happy reading.

I saw this book in a cute little bookstore in Santa Monica and thought to myself "Learning about 150 of today's greatest designers for only $12.99 ... sign me up!"

The book Fashion NOW, from the iconic British magazine i-D, is fun and is a good reference material for any fashion fan. The book is not a cover-to-cover read; it's more like a good reference. Each designer or label has a one- to two-paragraph biography, photos of their designs, and a quickie Q&A section.

So far I have read about Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Karl Lagerfeld and Jeremy Scott. My only disappointment with the book so far is that Betsey Johnson wasn't in there and the pages physically smelled funny. This book would make an excellent gift because the recipient is guaranteed to at least like one of the 150 designers in the book, plus you can't beat the price.
Back in August I blasted Nina Garcia for writing a book, and today I would like to apologize. Yeah that's right, I am saying that I am sorry. Why? Because I read the book and it's fantastic. I love it.

Nina Garcia's Little Black Book of Style helps you build your closet with staples that will last you a lifetime. Even though I am one to break fashion rules and almost never have a closet staple, I found this book very informative and useful. Nina also guides you to when and where you should wear certain outfits, how to combine colors, and ideas on how to achieve your own signature look.

My favorite aspect of book was the way she threw in little bits of history to go with every key piece you need in your wardrobe. While we are on the topic, I am sure you want to know what the staples are. I will just name just a few so I don't give them all away: a pair of ballet flats, a trench coat, quilted handbag, and a great pair of jeans.

The book also has beautiful illustrations from Ruben Toledo, which helps make the book that much more appealing. While others may think it totally creepy to wear something that someone else wore or even died in, to me they are pieces that tell a story without speaking a word. That 1940s bolero jacket could have gone on quite the adventure; it could have had an incredible emotional ride with its original owner. Vintage fashion is fashion at its finest.

Reading Vintage Fashion was like reading a textbook --except it was much more exciting. This book was informative and brought fashion back to its roots. It reminded me how our favorite fashions that we never gave a second thought to were brought on by much more than good looks. The nipped waists of the 1940s were brought on by the poor economy due to the war. Vogue declared this era "Il faut 'skimp' pour etre chic"- you must skimp to be chic.

This book is a must have for vintage fashion lovers. It not only covers each decade in detail, it also gives a Key Looks feature that gives a quick glance at color stories, shapes, and style of that particular decade. My favorite era was the 1960s with its great hosiery, boots, shift dresses, and psychedelic fashions.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
