Slim Down for Summer with That's Fit

Tender Toes say don't bother with Dr. Scholl's Blister Treatment

You know how hot weather can change the way your shoes fit? Well, we're in the middle of a heat wave, and our favorite bright orange shoes went from fitting like slippers to having little sharp teeth on the insides of the heels.

Can you say ouch?

Naturally this happened while we were out for the day, meeting two different friends with a good long walk through a museum in the middle. We had miles to go before our rest.

We've written before about ways to beat blisters, like foot lube and foam strips, but if you can't get your hands on them then you're out of luck, like we were that day.

After hobbling up and down Walgreens aisles and failing to find our usual solutions, we happened upon Dr. Scholl's Blister Treatment. Since the blisters were well and truly rising on our heels, this seemed like exactly what we needed. We ponied up $6 for a box of 8, and immediately squatted down to apply the fancy "treatment" to our heels.

Ah, relief! We stood and for almost a whole block we were better, if not magically healed. Then we felt a sudden searing pain and realized that our shoe had already rubbed the darn thing off.

Thinking we did something wrong, we tried again, this time being very careful to apply it exactly right, smoothing down all the edges. But the same thing happened. It didn't even stay on for a whole block!

At this point we went back and got a box of regular Bandaids ($3 for 25 multicultural Barbie strips, a much better deal) and plastered our heels with them. They got a little ragged on the edges, but pretty much stayed in place long enough for us to finish the day out and get home in one piece.

Moral of the story, when in doubt go for the old school, reliable solution. Hooray for Bandaids!
