Trend alert: man bling
According to the LA Times, guys are getting more and more into jewelry these days. Sales of men's jewelry doubled in the US over the last couple of years, and the trend is certainly visible on trend settin celebrity types from Johnny Depp to David Beckham. So, why are men suddenly flocking back toward the bling? Some are saying that men are becoming more comfortable with making a fashion statement. Whatever.
Whether men are getting more in touch with their repressed love of jewelry, or if it's just a trend like wearing Livestrong bracelets, men's jewelry is definitely on the way up -- and it's not all functional stuff either. Necklaces are the most common, followed by bracelets and rings. The look that celebs are sporting is not particularly glamorous or flashy, it's more subdued and personal. One subtle piece is enough to get people's attention.
According to jewelry buyers, the best selling men's items are symbolic in nature: crosses, dog tags, or spiritual beads. Think: stuff that some guy might have tattooed on his back -- then imagine it in jewelry form. It's basically a low-commitment substitute for getting a tattoo.
