The French step in to stop anorexia

Apparently those French women who don't get fat? Turns out some of them have anorexia. And the government is stepping in to try to stop it.
The Guardian UK reports that the France's lower house of parliament adopted a measure that makes it illegal to "incite extreme thinness."
The law will apply across all media, including magazines, websites and advertising.
Didier Grumbach, head of the French Federation of Couture scoffed at the notion that a judge could decide who "iz skeeny and 'oo iz not!" We imagine he then lit a cigarette, ate some brie and enjoyed a full bodied red wine while sneering at the US presidential race.
If a judge does decide someone is guilty of inciting thinness, the fines are stiff, up to 30,000 euros, (which at current conversion rates is about One Million Dollars.) Offenders can also be sentenced to jail time.
We absolutely applaud the sentiment, but forgive us for believing that even the French, with their legendary officiousness and love of bureaucracy, will have a hard time enforcing this law.
Still, every little bit counts. Along with the movement to require a minimum BMI to walk fashion shows, it's heartening to see specific action to create healthier images of women. Merci, France!

I agree with your sentiment, but 30,000 euro is only about 50,000 USD

We need to see real women, not women that are anorexic or
bulimic because they are trying to stay"thin enough"to keep their
modeling jobs!!!!!!!!!! Our young girls in this country need to know
they are beautiful and don't need to be competing with the
"make believe" world of thin anorexic/bulimic models. We need to
go back to the figures of people like Raquel Welch, Rita Hayworth,
Doris Day when they looked healthy because they had some meat
on their bones. Queen Latifa has meat on her bones and she looks
fantastic! Our young women deserve more from our society and too
many have fallen prey to this notion that they have to be stick thin,
tall, and silicone breasts to be appreciated as being beautiful. What
a bunch of crap! Queen Latifa has lost weight but looks healthy and
fantastic.........that is what our daughters need to see. Women getting
their weight under control but not the weight controlling them! Marty
