The $1,000 trash bag
Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News
In Sunday's "On the Street" section of The New York Times' Style Section, Bill Cunningham introduced the world to the latest bag fad to hit Manhattan. The object of desire? A $1,000 black polymer bag by Chanel. As you can see from the photographs, this "it" bag bears an uncanny resemblance to a very expensive 13-gallon trash bag that just happens to have a chain handle and a double-C Chanel charm. (No doubt the latter explains the truly exorbitant price tag.) If you're interested in this particular Chanel handbag, you had best get in line because there's already a month-long wait list for this season's most preposterous "it" bag.

just how stupid have the American people become.....
It is a ploy to see how ugly someone can make something and how much the mindless people of America will pay for it.

Wow! Didn't know that a garbage bag could be a fashion accesory! I think if I wanted a "hand bag" like that ugly one, I WOULD double up on the liners I use every day! Geesh! Give me a break! LOL!!!!

I have knock-offs for less than $.20 per bag (8/$1.00 at the dollar store) Black for evening wear; Blue for Spring, Green for Fall and of course White for Summer.
Come on people we have got to learn to say no, just because it has a fancy lable, doesn't mean it's "Fashion"

People are such SHEEP. Someone tells them this is THE bag to have, so that's what they think.

You'd have to be pretty tall to pull off this one.

So dumb...I rather use a real trashbag and call it a "trend."

I love the gal who's selling her trash bags for $1000 each. Dumb-dumb here actually popped for one of those bags with all the silver chain and charms. Now I understand that silver is out, and only gold will do. So much for my foray into fashion land.

Wasn't this an I Love Lucy episode?
Lucy and Ethel wanted a designer dress while in Paris, so Ricky and Fred packaged up burlap bags and horse feed bags in a designer box. Because it came in the box, they loved it, Ricky and Fred laughed their butts off when they told the girls. But they all got the last laugh when sitting in a cafe they saw Parisian models passby wearing the exact same thing.
I guess Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld fell asleep watching Nick at Night reruns...

You are so right Jon. Now let's see, would lamp shades as hats have the same effect?
